Andes Ski Trip A ski trip to Andes Tower Hills is planned for grades 3-6, on Friday Feb. 3rd. All students in grade 3-6 will be skiing at Andes on February 3rd (weather permitting). Please listen to KMGK radio FM 107.1 for cancellation. Students can either go downhill skiing or tubing. Experienced snowboarders with their own equipment can choose to snowboard. If students choose not to ski, tube or snowboard they will go with their class and stay in the chalet to read, play games etc. Students who choose to stay home will be counted as absent for the day. If a student plans to stay at Andes and not take the bus back to ME, they will need a parent permission slip and must be supervised by their parent or another adult. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for spending the entire day outside on the slopes. Hats, mittens, and snow pants are a must. Scarves are not recommended because they can get caught in the chair lift. Goggles and neck warmers are great to have along, as well as chap stick. There are no extras when we get there so it is important to be prepared. Please take time to talk to your child about how much fun the day will be. All students will go through a skills test with Andes instructional staff before they can hit the slopes. Students go their own pace, and it is important that they all at least try. Parent informational letter and Andes rental forms will be sent home with all students mid January.
The Kindergarten classes each make a Gingerbread Man and put him in the kitchen s oven to bake. Somehow the Gingerbread Man escapes from the oven. It is difficult to measure the severity of a storm in all sections of our school district, therefore the final decision rests with parents as to whether or not to send your child to school during adverse weather conditions or to keep them home. Parents can and have helped by filling out the emergency dismissal procedure form. With this plan in place, both your child and the school know your approved plans ahead of time. It is difficult for your child/children if you call the school with instructions on what they should do in case of an early closing. Our phone lines get tied up and if there is an emergency call the call can t get through. Your child may panic when they can t get in touch with their parent and they know that no one is at home and/or the door may be locked. There is also a chance that your child may miss the message you left for them. Your cooperation in keeping school telephone lines free during emergencies will be greatly appreciated. Please make arrangements with the school and discuss them with your child so everyone knows what procedure to follow prior to the day of a storm. We would also like to remind you that should school close early there are no Afterschool programs, they are canceled, including Afterschool Enrichment Program and Reading and Math (Targeted Service) clubs.
