N N Conventional outlook May 26 - june 2, 2017 www.fsproduce.com 48 ct CORN SUPPLIES FALL SHORT ALERT! Sweet Corn harvests down South fell very short of Memorial Day ad demand. White Corn is the hardest to find. Bi-Color will be the main type this holiday. Florida Sweet Corn production is wrapping up. Georgia has started, however production is light due to lost acreage and it rained there the days leading up to Memorial Day. Supplies are expected to remain limited during late May and early June with higher pricing. CV PEACHES & NECTARINES CV PLUMS & CHERRIES CV GRAPES Peaches - The volume from California fell off last week and there was little fruit available to come East. There was a little better volume on Monday and prices were firm. There was a pleasant surprise this week as we received the first load of Southern peaches from Georgia. The fruit was all 2 ½ and smaller with very strong prices, but the quality and color is very good. Nectarines - Supplies are steady with size improving daily. There is plenty of big fruit for the tray pack and growers are consistently packing 60 s into the 25lb. volume fill. Quality also is very nice. Cherries - There is good availability this week and going into the weekend. No shortage of fruit except for the smaller sizes, 11 row and smaller. New lots being picked were larger along with strong demand for the smaller fruit because of price. So far, we ve been seeing some nice fruit on red cherries along with a better supply on Rainiers. Plums - The first plums are arriving this week with the Black Ebony and Flavorosa. Black Diamonds should start this weekend along with some early red varieties. The volume is steadily improving on fresh crop Grapes crossing in Nogales, Arizona. On Green Grapes, the Perlettes, will be much cheaper than the Early Sweets, Primes, and then the Sugarones for the Memorial Day period. For price, Perlettes are very nice with large and extra-large fruit available. With improved volume on the Red Seedless Grapes (Flames), you will see the cost drop there as well. Quality on the Flames is good - small sizing, but great crispness and taste. Southern California is picking up in volume as well and you will pay an even higher price out of there.

may 26 - june 2, 2017 MARKET NEWS 21 17 FOUR SEASONS PRODUCE CV PEPPERS Green Peppers remain limited from Georgia though with nice quality. 15lb Red La Rouge-style Peppers remain limited from Mexico and California; sizing is large. Greenhouse 11lb Colored Bell Peppers. Mini Mixed Sweet Peppers remain promotable. CV vidalia onions Vidalia Onions are starting out of storage this week. Costs will increase about $3-4/case this week due to the increased cost of storage but there is still promotable supply. CV melons Georgia bin Cantaloupes are expected to start this week. All regular Cantaloupes and Honeydews have shifted to the west. Prices will be up slightly as all of the off-short fruit has cleaned up. Tuscan Heirloom-style Cantaloupes are coming into season. CV GREEN BEANS Beautiful new crop Green Beans from Georgia are priced a tad higher as rain has slowed production. CV CALIFORNIA CITRUS NOTE: We are on the last of the California Murcott Mandarins/Clementine (Halos/Smiles) and will run out by the first week of June depending on demand. We ll switch to new crop 10/3 and 15/2lb out of Peru and Chile. The Navel Orange market is stronger going into the last few weeks of the season with the Valencia Orange market going in stride. ALERT! Lemons continue to be in a short supply and any flex in the market has dissipated. Expect a very strong market on Lemons for the next few months going forward. CV LETTUCE Iceberg Lettuce remains steady with good quality and promotable volume. Leaf Lettuce and Romaine Hearts are steady and promotable. We will continue to have Western and NJ options. CV Tomatoes 15lb Beef and Cluster Tomatoes are promotable. 2-Layer and 25 lb Vine Ripe Tomatoes are limited, but prices are steady to lowering. Roma Tomatoes are steady to lower in price this week. Quality is nice. Campari Tomatoes are back in action with nice quality and should be steady this week! Blended Flavors and Sun Bliss Gold Tomatoes are great to promote at aggressive price-points this week! Cv broccoli & cauliflower Broccoli Crowns are steady. We are in to nice quality from South Carolina. Bunched broccoli is steady as well. Cauliflower supply is more limited with a bump in pricing this week. Quality has been outstanding. Other stories: ALERT! Celery remains very limited with high pricing. Quality is nice. Cello 1lb, cello 6oz and 24ct Radishes are limited with steady to higher pricing. Cucumbers are tight from Georgia. Mini Seedless and Cello Wrapped Cucumbers are plentiful and promotable. Brussels Sprouts are limited with nice quality, but higher pricing this week. Cabbage is steady and promotable from Georgia. New Jersey product will start in early to mid-june. Collards and Kale are steady from New Jerseyquality is nice. Eggplant is limited with steady pricing. We will be in to Georgia product this week. Zucchini and Yellow Squash are limited with nice quality and steady pricing from Georgia. All Hard Squashes are steady.
