A Taste of the Deep South of the USA 2 nd November-16 th November 2019 15 day tour Taste, discover, explore Welcome to the Deep South of the USA. The Deep South is a fascinating destination, with its own customs, traditions, and culture completely distinct from anywhere else. Its combination of Cajun, Creole and Soul Food brings us incredible dishes such as gumbo, fried catfish, spicy hot chicken and the most mouthwatering BBQ. This region has been having a food resurgence with a lot of chefs moving to the areas and bringing their fine dining training and applying it to local restaurants. Our tour starts in Atlanta where we have a private wine tour in the North Georgian Mountains visiting five wineries that focus on French, Portuguese and Spanish varietals. We lunch at a farm to table restaurant surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Our private food tour at Ponce City Market allows us to eat at some of the markets best restaurants, walk the beltline before we have our brewery tasting at Orpheus Brewing. We also explore the National Historical Park of Georgia whilst in Atlanta. The Big Easy (New Orleans) is our next stop. Our private food tour, which includes matching cocktails, has us eating like real locals. No visit to New Orleans is complete without a visit to Preservation Hall established in 1961 honoring New Orleans Jazz and we have the pleasure of a fantastic show. We have a private bayou boat ride to see if we can spot any gators. In Memphis we have a private BBQ tour where we lean the history of BBQ and their special recipes. We also have a Rock N Roll history tour in a 1955 Chevy Bel Air and get the true Memphis experience. We have a private tour at the Old Dominic Distillery where we learn about the true grain to glass experience. This is a spectacular tour and as we only take a maximum 10 on this tour it allows us to experience this incredible region in an intimate and private setting.
Atlanta Day 1 : Saturday 2 nd November On arrival into Atlanta make your way to our hotel where you will be met and checked into your room to relax before this evenings drinks in the hotel lobby and then on to dinner. (Transfers can be arranged from airport) Meals: Drinks and Dinner (including wine and or beverages) Day 2 : Sunday 3 rd November After breakfast this morning we have a full day private wine tour. Our day will be filled with delicious wine, food, and special events in the North Georgia Mountains. We visit five wineries today and get to see some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state of Georgia. A lot of these producers have French, Portuguese and Spanish varietals. We also have lunch at an incredible farm to table restaurant that showcases the best of local produce. Meals: Breakfast, Wine Tour with Lunch (including wine and or beverages) Day 3 : Monday 4 th November Today we have a private food walking tour at Ponce City Market. We get to experience Atlanta s latest food hall set inside a Historic Sears & Roebuck store. Eat at some of Ponce City Market s best restaurants, including one of America s favorite burgers. Walk the Beltline and see street art and hear about the history of baseball in Atlanta. You have some free time this afternoon before we head over to Orpheus Brewing where they focus on new hops, wild fermentations and barrels, always committed to creating beers that live up to their motto, Don t Look Back. Meals: Breakfast, Private Food Tour, Beer Tasting (including wine and or beverages) Day 4 : Tuesday 5 th November We get to explore the National Historical Park of Georgia today, filled with an abundance of history. Some of the highlights will be the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, where we can listen to sermons and speeches of Dr Martin Luther King. The King Centre a moment to reflect at Dr and Mrs King's Tomb and view the Eternal Flame. We farewell Atlanta tonight at one of the city s best restaurants. Mobile Day 5 : Wednesday 6 th November After breakfast today we make our way to Alabama for the night in Mobile. Situated in that small section of Alabama that steals the Gulf shoreline away from Florida, Mobile is a treasure that often remains under the radar but this picturesque Port City offers a quaint escape full of history, seafood and Spanish moss. We will have dinner tonight over some southern creole cooking. Overnight: Mobile New Orleans Day 6 : Thursday 7 th November After a leisurely breakfast we head on into Louisiana and our next stop, New Orleans. After we have checked into our hotel you have some free time to wander the buzzing streets before we have dinner tonight. Day 7 : Friday 8 th November Today we have a private food walking tour, also with cocktails, that will have us eating like locals. We begin with a catfish po boy, possibly one of our most quintessential bites, oysters with a garlic almond sauce and much more plus also learning about the history of the area as well. Tonight we will listen to the classic music of Jazz at the
Preservation Hall. New Orleans Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honour one of America s truest art forms Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Meals: Breakfast and Private Food Tour (including wine and or beverages) Day 8 : Saturday 9 th November We head out on the bayou today. We have a private boat ride on the famous Honey Island Swamp. We glide through gator territory with the chance of also seeing wild boar, raccoons, owls, egrets and more. We have dinner tonight in one of New Orleans famous restaurants. Day 9 : Sunday 10 th November Today is completely free for your leisure. Wander the markets, Bourbon Street and soak up the atmosphere of the big easy. We farewell New Orleans tonight over dinner. Jackson Day 10 : Monday 11 th November After breakfast today we head north to Mississippi and our stop for the night, Jackson. Jackson is noted for its beautiful architecture. From the magnificent Capitol building that dates back to 1903 to the modest home of Medgar Evers, a slain civil rights worker and any Johnny Cash fans will know this town from his famous song. You have some free time this afternoon before we have dinner in one of Jackson s hottest restaurants. Overnight: Jackson Memphis Day 11 : Tuesday 12 th November Today we head to the home of blues music, Memphis (flight). Not only is Memphis famous for music it is also famous for its BBQ and amazing food scene. You have some free time this afternoon before we have dinner. Day 12 : Wednesday 13 th November Don t fill up too much at breakfast this morning as we have a private BBQ tour this afternoon. We re heading out to taste authentic, mouth-watering BBQ Memphis style! We will learn the history of BBQ and their special recipes, dry-rubbed or saucy wet ribs, pulled pork, pork nachos and BBQ spaghetti, all delicious regional favourites. Our guide will also provide a sampling of culture and history sprinkled throughout this walking tour. Meals: Breakfast and BBQ Tour (including wine and or beverages) Day 13 : Thursday 14 th November We get to roll in classic style today on our musical tour of Memphis. We take a journey into Rock n Roll history while exploring the city streets in true vintage style. We hop into a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, 1955 Plymouth Belvedere, 1956 Chrysler Imperial or a 1959 Ford Skyliner and get the true Memphis experience just like we re back in Memphis when Elvis was becoming the king of Rock n Roll. After this we have a tour of Old Dominic Distillery. We will learn of old traditions, have a full tour of the extensive grain to glass spirit making facility and also a sensory journey. We finish with a tasting of Old Dominic s fine spirits. Meals: Breakfast and Distillery Tour (including wine and or beverages)
Day 14 : Friday 15 th November You have a complete free day for your leisure. You may wish to visit Graceland s or take in the sights of Beale Street. We have our farewell dinner tonight and get to share our experiences from our Deep South Tour. Day 15 : Saturday 16 th November After breakfast today we make our way to Atlanta.
