Manchester and beating Plastic Pollution The canteen is looking to go plastic free Replacing sauce/ salt & Pepper sachets with glass jars Replacing sugar sachets with mills Encouraging use of china dining and metal cutlery
Poole and Beating Plastic Pollution Poole is also looking to kill the cup. Since September 2017 staff were issued a reusable cup.
Congleton and beating plastic pollution Similar to Manchester, the external caterers Baxter Storey offered to remove single-use plastic from the restaurant (Baxter's Storey). The same is true of Frimley. Using an employee feedback board the overwhelming result was towards replacing the plastic, suggesting the eagerness to eradicate plastic in Siemens Congleton.
Frimley and Beating Plastic Pollution A token selection game is being introduced, encouraging employees to chose green For a single-use plastic drink employees will place a red token in the given box If a reusable drinks cup is used a green token will be selected The results could be really interesting and we re definitely backing the green team.
Together as a Siemens UK Family Lots of small changes make a large difference particularly when Siemens UK has around 15,000 employees. If everyone starts to think along these lines and #pledgelessplastic then together Siemens can beat plastic pollution.
What are the Outcomes for Siemens? Duty of Care: Siemens has a duty of care ensuring that it is protecting human health and the environment. By refusing or reducing our plastic consumption we are helping to ensure the environment is less polluted ensuring the consequences of plastic pollution on ecosystems and populations are mitigated. What are the Outcomes for Siemens? Waste hierarchy: Siemens should be looking to move up the waste hierarchy in as many ways as possible. Refusing and reducing plastic will help us to do this. Waste hierarchy Diagram
What are the Outcomes for Siemens? 1 2 3 4 Even in the companies origins, Siemens where looking to be different and create a better world. Werner Von Siemens helped break the mould and create the first electric train. Siemens history news claims Visitors to the Berlin Trade Fair could scarcely believe their eyes when a locomotive passed along a track. A gasped at how no smoke, nor steam was being exhumed. Sustainability is part of Siemens DNA right from the companies origins with Werner Von Siemens claiming I won t sell the future for shortterm profit.
What are the Outcomes for Siemens? we are creatures of habit and like doing things in specific ways. Change is difficult especially when not everybody is changing particularly when it is something we are addicted to like plastic. Sarah Jones (Siemens EHS Manager with a focus on Environmental, Energy and Carbon Management) Siemens should look to stand out from the crowd and be the difference. Small actions can add up to a large difference. Siemens should look to be ingenious and get ahead of the wave, of avoiding plastic.
1 The work completed during this years World Environment Day has been really positive and this can be the catalyst to something even greater and hopefully one day we can #BeatPlasticPollution 2 Remember to share your pledges using the #Pledgelessplastic on the SSN.
