This time it happened in China. On May 12th at 2:28pm., a deadly magnitude 8.0 earthquake devastated the region north of Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is confi rmed that there was over 69,000 deaths, over 360,000 injuries and 3.5 million homes destroyed. I could not control my tears when I saw the images of young students bur- ied. The parents and teachers gave their lives to save the children. Soldiers and volunteers also risked their lives to save the survivors. I was touched. This reminds me of the Tangshan earthquake that occurred 32 years ago. It is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll... over 250,000 deaths! I was a student at Nanjing University in 1976. We had to move outdoors from our rooms and camp outside overnight as a precau- tion. Instead of returning home during summer vacation, I went together with some volunteers to the Red Cross Society to offer help with the injured people from this disaster. Even though it was over 30 years ago, it is still so fresh in my memories. We created a Sichuan Earthquake Fund at AAA Imports. The staff of AAA Imports showed love, compassion and sympathy to the people in Sichuan, China. The fund will be directly wired to the Red Cross Society in China. Most of us are not on a regular basis. There is no big secret to successful sleep. It starts with a comfortable mattress - this is key. Here are some additional snooze boosters that will further help you to transform your sleeping space into a calming, stress-free sanctuary. Make it a breathing room. Cluttered and crowded quarters can make it diffi cult to relax. Create open space by downsizing wall decorations and excess furniture. Use shelves for a slimmer substitute for boxy nightstands. Let there be dark. Too much light keeps your brain awake when your body wants to sleep. Invest in some thick shades or fabric shades to block out brightness. At bedtime, turn off the hallway lights and use a dimly lit alarm clock. Seduce your senses. Set the mood for sleep with stress-reducing aromas like lavender or vanilla. try a scented detergent or fabric softener for your sheets. For a cozy inviting nest, layer your bed with indulgent textures such as fi ne cotton and chenille. Unplug and unwind. In order to de-stress, you need to pull the plug on all non-sleep related activities. Keep your bedroom free of computers, televisions, phones and answering machines. Also keep out other day-today distractions such as bills, work papers, snacks and to-do lists. Enjoy a good night's sleep and wake refreshed and ready to face a new day. Donna

INGREDIENTS 1 pound ground beef 1 (15 ounce) can sweet corn, drained 1 cup mild, chunky salsa 1/4 cup sliced black olives 3 1/2 cups cooked egg noodles 1 (15.25 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed 1/4 cup taco sauce 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix 1/2 cup tomato sauce INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). 2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until evenly brown; drain. 3. In a 9x13 inch baking dish combine the beef, corn, salsa, olives, cooked noodles, beans, taco sauce, seasoning mix and tomato sauce. 4. Bake in the preheated oven for 1/2 hour, or until cooked through.
