Corbin, KY KFC scored 99 on a CER May 28, 2005. Corbin Crew above l to r: Back: Greg Smith, Dennis Overbey, Joe Woods, Jennifer Hollis. Middle: Buelah Rutherford, Trish Gregory, Robert Hayes, Amanda Hubbard. Front, kneeling: Kathy Haley, David Blevins. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES Harris Martin, JRN Corbin, KY Dear Harris I just wanted to take a minute on behalf of KFC Public Relations to thank you for allowing us to utilize Dennis Overbey for the recent B-roll* shoot at the Sanders Café and Museum. Dennis was not only a gracious host but a key piece of our interview, and we truly appreciated the fact that he would take time out of his busy day to assist us. It was our first visit to the Sanders Cafe and Museum, and we were very impressed! It is truly a wonderful tribute to KFC and the Colonel. We were glad we had the opportunity to experience the place as well as Dennis' gracious hospitality and expertise. Thank you again. Sincerely, Diane Bloem, KFC Public Relations CONNECTION Vol. 8 No. 7 July, 2005 HIGH MARKS ALL AROUND! MARTIN ROSE TO THE OCCASION I would like to congratulate a store that has really done well the last year. They had 4 Triple Crowns in a row and their first 2 Customer Based Champs Checks were 100. This store is Martin, TN. Thanks to Angie, Joanna, Lonnie, Debbie and Jake. The rest of the crew also. They have done a fantastic Job! Ruth Davis, Area Manager More about Martin on page 2. NEVER TOO LATE TO SAY GREAT! Hello everyone, just wanted to drop a line to say that Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg had CERs on Thursday, May the 5 th. Pigeon Forge made a 99,and Gatlinburg made a 97! I am very proud of both stores scores and thank them all very much for the hard work and attention it takes to make scores like this. PLATINUM is always a hard mark to reach. Both teams did an awesome job to get these scores. Also, Strawberry Plains got a 92,and Sevierville got an 83,these are great scores as well and I am also very proud of both these stores. Have a great week. Bud Goff, Area Manager This article was not included in the June issue. Apologies to Bud and to the crews at Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Strawberry Plains and Sevierville. * A B-roll is a collection of video or film: interviews, establishment shots, interior shots, history footage, etc., that is submitted as a package to media outlets which they can put together with their own commentary (their A-roll) for a story or news report.

JRN CONNECTION July 2005 Vol. 8, No. 7 2 12 TIMES 100 = MARTIN As many of you read in the last JRN Connection, Martin, TN recently achieved many GREAT things. In June we received notice that we had placed in The Colonel's Promise Interim program and we placed in that as the only JRN Stores with 10 100's in a row!! We received certificates which we used for a party for the store with Ice Cream Cake, Pizza, Candy and gave out some special pins and items for the crew!! {We will be sending in pictures of the Crew and Mgmt Team} The very next day we found out that we had just received our 4th Triple Crown in a row!! So we are very proud of our Team and Store!! But the management team would like to make some special acknowledgements... Angi, Joanna, Lonnie and Jake would like to send a Special Thanks to Tammy Millican - who is now at the Dyersburg Store. Angi was Tammy's Assistant the 1st two years I was in this store. She trained me and taught me how to run this store!! Joanna, Lonnie, Jake and myself were all part of her management team while she was here. She trained each of us and helped us become better managers!! She left us - to be closer to home - and went to Dyersburg in July of 2004 and we MISS HER, but hope that we are making her proud with all the accomplishments!! Thanks, Tammy, for all the help, training and belief in us while you were here!! But we wanted you to know that we took your training to heart and hope that we are making you proud!! We know that you worked very hard the couple of years in this store when Martin was struggling and the store's future looked uncertain!! You put a lot of time, energy and sweat in the store to get it back on solid ground. We have only tried to continue what you started {building the store back up} and build on the foundation that you left for us!! So we wanted to thank you and include you in these recent accomplishments!! Also we would like to thank Ruth Davis for help, encouragement, and support as well.. We know you have really had "your days" with Martin {Tammy, too!!} and we hope that these recent accomplishments make you proud as well!! Martin is continuing to work hard each day to make our store the best that it can be!!! Thank You, Angela Jones, RGM of Martin KFC ROLLING DOWN THE ROASTERS Kenny Rogers Roasters closed here in Mobile, AL sometime ago, but their Catering Van can still be seen at our place buying GREAT chicken! George Embling, Area Manager AND 1 BASKETBALL I had a good time in Memphis Friday at the And1 basketball game. Met up with Ginny and Ryan for the meet and greet with some players before the game. J&A had 25 people on the meet and greet list. The only ones who showed up were me and my wife. So the entire meet and greet was Ryan, Ginny, Alishia and myself. There were a lot of KFC logos all over the place. The bucket I took a picture by was huge. This would be good to have at a KFC function. Wendell Teague, Area Manager

At the window she repeated "Unsweet tea with lemon, all white meal with slaw and baked beans, honey and pepper." I didn't even have to ask for a napkin. I was very impressed with her efficiency, speed, personality and manners. Her name tag said "Jade". The manager, Mike, is very professional and friendly, says a dine-in customer at the Waynesboro, VA KFC. He was also pleased with the great service. Amanda and Becky give great service at the Wards Rd. Lynchburg, VA store, says a dine-in customer. The customer adds that the unit is clean and the food is hot and fresh. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lisa, the GM at this store, writes a carryout customer at the Blacksburg, VA KFC, for her excellent customer service under pressure. I have had two instances (out of many visits) when my food was less than satisfactory. Both times, Lisa resolved the problem instantly, with a smile and courteous service, and never once made me feel like I was an imposition. As someone who has worked in customer service for over 10 years in various capacities, I know it is not always easy to keep up a positive front when dealing with a customer complaint, no matter how mild the complaint may be. Lisa however, is so friendly, you find yourself forgetting that the reason you were originally talking to her was due to a small problem. I hope Lisa's efforts can be recognized in some way, as customer service of this magnitude is rarely found, particularly in food service.

JRN CONNECTION July 2005 Vol. 8, No. 7 6 MARY ELKIN S SHELBYVILLE CORRAL EXTRA CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS OVERDUE Heather O Dea Holly Warner Jerry Thompson MANY HAPPY RETURNS It is hard on a young person to try and work and go to school. JRN CONNECTION July 2005 Vol. 8, No. 7 7 CHICKEN TO THE RESCUE TO: Rodney Shaw, JRN Regional Manager FROM: Ray Whitson, Food Service Director, Tennessee School For The Deaf And Educational Resource Center For The Hearing Impaired Dear Sir, At the end of each school year, we honor those of our faculty and staff who are retiring. This Retirement Luncheon is one of the most important and anticipated events of the year, with much planning and effort going into its' success. On April 28th, the main transformer supplying power to our facility was destroyed by fire caused by a short circuit. Since that time we have been on emergency generator power, which has rendered our kitchen equipment useless until the new transformer is replaced some time later this month. Due to the unfortunate timing of this mechanical problem, it became necessary for us to look to outside sources for possible catering of this event. The entree for this fete is usually chicken. Serving fried chicken to our faculty, staff, former employees/retirees and invited dignitaries has become somewhat of a tradition at this meal. After calling various restaurants, caterers and vendors, I decided to call KFC to see if they would be able to provide 225 chicken breasts on such short notice. I have been in the Food Service Industry for over thirty-seven years, and have never had a more enjoyable experience than I had in dealing with KFC and its employees. From the first phone call to picking up the product, Mr. Don Buckner, Restaurant Manager at your Strawberry Plains store was a true service professional. He worked with me in getting a fair price, came in early to ensure the chicken was ready, and even offered his cell phone number as I was leaving in case there was a problem. I asked him for your address in order to let you know what a fine group of people you have working for you at that location Thank you again for a wonderful experience. You can't buy advertisement like this. Sincerely, a very Satisfied customer, Ray Whitson GOOD NEIGHBORS! Next to the Lafayette, TN store there is a Walgreens being built. Also, behind Applebees next to us, a Big Lots just opened last week. Mike said to always let you know what is going on. Have a good week. JoAnne Powden, Area Manager TIMBERLAKE REOPENS At the newly rebuilt Timberlake, VA KFC, pictured l to r: John Martin, Gilbert Derath, RGM, Tony Bridges, Emily Hargis, and John R. Neal. Photo by Tyrone Neal The Timberlake, Lynchburg, VA KFC is the latest of the many JRN stores to be rebuilt or remodeled. JRN s construction department continues a vigorous schedule. Current projects include a rebuild of Marion, VA as a KFC/Taco Bell, remodeling River Ridge in Asheville, NC and the relocation of the Richmond Rd. Williamsburg, VA store. ROOMS TO REST I just wanted to share with you, the great customer Mania I ran upon in one of our stores, at Mauldin S.C. J718239. Kathy Nations (RGM) and her team demonstrated great pride in their daily routine. The restaurant restrooms are decorated in a special way to make customers feel like a movie star. (The Women s) Restroom ceiling was painted pink and walls were decorated with different purse collections and design. It makes all customers feel comfortable. Men s restroom was decorated with a safari theme. It was great to see this team have good enthusiasm and go the extra mile in taking care of their customers with the decoration and atmosphere in their restaurant. Thanks for all you do every day. These people correctly identified Jim Pitchford (left) as last issue s Guess Who? : Vickie Graham, Terry Jennings, Ed Ruth, Pat Heard, and Lola Richards. Some of the rest of you probably got it too. Now, who is the guy pictured below? Hint: it s not Rick Moranis. ONE CUSTOMER AT A TIME The most common complaint we now receive from customers on the 800 line is rudeness. Working with the public can be challenging. A hundred smiling customers can fill the morning, but one impatient, impolite person can spoil that. Anger is a natural response to anger, but it doesn t have to be. Even in our accelerated culture, Patience is still a virtue and has many rewards. Official KFC policy is our valued associates and guests deserve to be treated with respect and in a friendly, courteous manner. Rude behavior toward anyone in your restaurant is not acceptable under any circumstances. Rude behavior is defined by the policy as:? Cursing or using vulgar language.? Shouting or Yelling.? Throwing or Grabbing things from anyone.? Acting impatient or angry. aaa? Making an associate or guest feel uncomfortable or unwelcome.? Deliberately ignoring a customer. This list does not cover it all, and KFC reserves the right to use management judgment to determine if something is rude behavior and what the appropriate action might be. Disciplinary action can range from a warning to immediate termination. Being polite under trying circumstances may be difficult. At first. But it becomes easier with practice, and with the decision that you, not events, will be in control of your emotions. In addition to your wages and the skills and experience you gain from your job, you can also develop an attitude of patient understanding that will benefit you and everyone around you.
