Domaine La Soufrandière The domaine La Soufrandière, located in Vinzelles in Southern Burgundy, owns 4 ha of Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts and 0.55 ha of Pouilly- Vinzelles Climat Les Longeays. The vines, aged between 32 and 80 years old, are ideally situated on the middle and top of clay-limestone slopes (from the Bajocian period, dating back about 180 million years) and are exposed east and southeast. In 2005, the brothers maternal grandfather passed the famous parcel of Mâcon-Vinzelles (1.00 ha) Clos de Grand- Père. What guides them as growers at La Soufrandière: Exceptional Grapes for Exceptional Wines The brothers have worked organically and biodynamically since taking over the domaine in 2000. They believe working this way is the only means of producing wines of exceptional balance, vibrancy, and terroir expression. They also limit yields (around 40 hl/ha) with manual viticultural practices, such as de-budding. After reaching ideal maturity, the grapes are handharvested, whole-berry pressed, and vinified separately according to their individual vineyard origin, with natural yeasts, either in barrel or tank. 2013 Vintage: The magic of difficult vintages Like in 2012, the weather was particularly wet in 2013. Flowering began in early June and took place partially under rainy skies, with one week of northern wind, and generally extremely cold weather for the season. A large quantity of the inflorescences thus aborted, contributing to an immediate drastic reduction in yields for certain parcels (including but not limited to those of La Soufrandière). As for 2012, we de-leafed around the Soufrandière grapes, fearing oïdium attacks. Finally, after a relatively dry and cool summer, we began harvest quite late on September 27 and finished on October 10. The grapes were beautiful, small (with lots of millerandage) and concentrated. The 2013 wines are magnificent, with tension, and fruit. Another vintage that proved difficult in the vines but magical in the bottle! We dedicate this vintage to Marc- Antoine.

BRET BROTHERS We created Bret Brothers in early August 2001, with the aim of making great terroirdriven wines, primarily from Southern Burgundy and, since 2013, the Beaujolais Crus. This ambitious objective implies rigorous specifications to which we sincerely adhere: we select plots of old vines farmed by passionate growers on specific terroirs; we buy only grapes that are still on the vine; we hand-pick the grapes ourselves; we vinify exclusively with indigenous yeasts; we cellar, age and bottle the wine ourselves; we give the same care and passion to those grapes as we do to the grapes coming from our Domaine La Soufrandière. As of the 2006 vintage, BRET BROTHERS is monitored and certified by ECOCERT as producing 11 cuvées made with organic grapes. It seems right for us to engage in and support sustainable agriculture, which is something we truly believe in. As a result, the wines have become even more vibrant. Great Mâconnais white wines (Southern Burgundy) and Beaujolais Crus 1 Wine = 1 Parcel = 1 Grower (except Mâcon-Villages Terroirs du Mâconnais ) Selection of old vines (at least 40 years old), 100% chardonnay Hand-harvesting by the BRET BROTHERS team 11 wines certified organic by Ecocert Total of 22 micro-cuvées (900 to 4,000 bottles per wine) Annual production: 50,000 bottles 100% natural yeasts Most of the wines are vinified and aged in Burgundian barrels (5 to 15 years old) Photo captions, counter-clockwise: Coquette led by Laurent in Les Quarts, a millerandé 2012 grape in Les Quarts, the pinnacle, La Soufrandière before 1947, silica (501) treatment in spring, the wine library, the typical Tinnailler tanks of the Mâconnais, our underground barrel cellar, La Soufrandière after the cellar extension work, from left to right Jean-Guillaume, Jean-Philippe and Marc-Antoine.

T he wines of Domaine La S oufrandière : very small yields in 2013 please take note!! MACON-VINZELLES La Soufrandière «LE CLOS DE GRAND-PERE» 2013 : Our MÂCON-VINZELLES LE CLOS DE GRAND PÈRE is our Pouilly-Vinzelles La Soufrandière s younger brother and comes from a plot belonging to our maternal grandfather, who also inherited it from his own maternal grandfather! The vines, 60 years old on average, lay on the lower part of the Pouilly-Vinzelles slope. They form a very old clos on a rocky vein of hard limestone. 2013: with concentration and purity! A favorite! POUILLY-VINZELLES La Soufrandière 2013 : The AOC POUILLY-VINZELLES is only 50 ha (123 acres) in comparison to the neighboring AOC POUILLY-FUISSÉ s 750 ha (1,850 acres). But doesn t this stricter limitation make for even more uniqueness and richness? This great white Burgundy wine fully expresses Chardonnay from the Southern Mâconnais. Our wine is a blend of our young vines (33 to 50 years old) in Les Quarts, simply rechristened as a village AOC Pouilly-Vinzelles La Soufrandière. The vines have a magnificent southeastern exposure, and are located on the middle of the clay-limestone slope. The soils are plowed and vineyard work is carried out by hand to avoid tamping down the soil. The soil is naturally alive, without any additives. The word Terroir takes on its full dimension here! 2013 is a magnificent wine right off the bat! A favorite! POUILLY-VINZELLES La Soufrandière CLIMAT «LES LONGEAYS» 2013 : Les Longeays is one of the three most interesting climats in the appellation. As for our vines in the Climat Les Quarts, the vines in Les Longeays face southeast and are located mid-slope, but the clay soils, rich in oxidized iron and magnesium, are deeper here. This characteristic explains the early-ripening trend, year after year. Les Longeays is, thus, often more expressive young than Les Quarts. 2013 affirms the classiness of this great terroir. POUILLY-VINZELLES La Soufrandière CLIMAT «LES QUARTS» 2013 : Walk, listen, smell. You are in the middle of the plowed vines of La Soufrandière in Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts, on a terroir we think is one of the best in Burgundy maybe because of our unbounded love for it, or maybe because of our deep conviction. The earth here is soft, aerated, and smells of licorice. It is alive. The Terroir is present, simply, certainly. An almost magical exposition (on a slope facing southeast) for our old Chardonnay vines (from 45 to 80 years old), plus the active claylimestone soil (Bajocian, rich with siliceous crystals) give birth to wines for the long term. The nose is lemony and mineral, and there is balance, complexity, and a long finish. Vintages go by, the terroir remains. It s up to us to preserve it! 2013, small berries, a great wine. A favorite! POUILLY-VINZELLES La Soufrandière CLIMAT «LES QUARTS» Cuvée Millerandée 2013 : Some advise us to dig up these vines: they are deteriorating! You must replant a new clone! That would be sacrilegious, a crime against biodiversity. From the beginning, we decided to separately vinify this part of Les Quarts, planted with vines older than 80 years. Since 2000, thanks to a return of biological activity in the soils, these vines regained their energy and began growing more evenly. But they always produce small grapes that we call Millerandés, highly concentrated grapes that give a richer version of Quarts, with no residual sugar. 2013, extreme millerandage. A favorite! Chaintré Fuissé 0,95 ha Mâcon-Vinzelles «Le Clos de Grand-Père» 0,55 ha Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat «Les Longeays» Vinzelles 4 ha Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat «Les Quarts» Ouest Nord Sud Est Le Clocheton dans nos Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts Mâcon (5 km) THE BRET BROTHERS GREAT RED BEAUJOLAIS WINES : BEAUJOLAIS-LEYNES GLOU DE JEFF 2013: The wine of a friend. This is the only wine we can present in such a way because it is the only one, since the Bret Brothers beginning, that they have neither harvested nor vinified. Jean-François ( Jeff ) only just began his career as a talented and passionate winemaker in Leynes and could not commercialize the entirety of his production in bottles in 2013. So the Brets gave him a little boost ;-) 2013 is full fruit!! We want more! A favorite! BEAUJOLAIS-LEYNES BIEN-VENU IN X-TREMIS 2013: We returned our vines in Leynes at the end of 2012, but this year we were still able to find magnificent grapes from this same remarkable terroir! Our BIEN VENU is the blend of 3 magnificent parcels on the steep (25-30%) slope that faces Chaintré and Saint Amour, exposed south and east. 2013, a deep color, powerful aromas, fruit. The terroir of Leynes speaks! A favorite! MORGON CLIMAT LES CHARMES 2013: Morgon one of the best crus of the Beaujolais! From the Charmes plateau, these organic old vines of gamay yield magnificent, perfumed berries with firm skins. One of the best granite terroirs, with elegance and drinkability. 2013, all about nuance, without excess, taking you on an olfactory journey. A favorite!

FLEURIE CLIMAT GRANDS PRES 2013: Beaujolais other great appellation! This magnificent parcel, located at the heart of 14 hectares of organic vines, at mid-slope, looks at the rising sun. The granite soils are not humid like the clays of the Mâconnais, and yet they are full of life. Such a delicate perfume is emitted from from this lovingly-worked plot. For all seasoned gamay-lovers, or those who simply wish to rediscover this great cru considered up until the 2 nd World War as a jewel of Burgundy. 2013, our Fleurie is complex, full of fruit, with round tannins. A favorite! THE BRET BROTHERS GREAT WHITE MACONNAIS WINES : MACON-VILLAGES CUVEE TERROIRS DU MACONNAIS 2013: This is our only blended cuvée, including grapes from Mâcon-Villages, Mâcon-Chaintré, Mâcon-Fuissé, Viré-Clessé, Saint-Véran and the Pouilly s. If we were in Bordeaux, it would be our 2 nd blend. But do not be misled, as this is excellent wine, far beyond your basic entry level! It is ideal with goat cheese from the Mâconnais! 2013, extraordinary! MACON-UCHIZY CUVEE LA MARTINE 2013: Uchizy, whose vineyard faces east gives delicious wines, particularly for our Mâcon-Uchizy Climat La Martine, made from old vines (at least 45 years old). In the village they say that La Martine (pronounced as La Marrrrrtine ) was the governess of the famous french romantic poet Lamartine, born in the Mâconnais. The soils are clay-limestone and rather deep with many small and round, limey stones. These characteristics all contribute to the production of a fresh, fruity, and generous wine. 2013, what a beautiful wine with tension, fruit. A wine with plenty of energy. A favorite! MACON-CHARDONNAY 2013: The elder citizens of Chardonnay, located not far from Tournus, will tell you that their village provided the name for the famous Burgundian varietal. All that is certain is that the word Chardonnay comes from the Latin Cardus which means thistle, the spikey plants that grow particularly well on limestone soils. Chardonnay is a village with excellent limestone. A magnificent wine, with an explosive bouquet, indulgent, guided by the natural energy of the terroir. 2013, like 2002, is almost ready to drink, with focused fruit! A favorite! MACON-CHARDONNAY CLIMAT LA ROCHE 2013: One of the greatest terroirs of the village. Exposed directly south on a rocky soil, as the name indicates. A denser and more precise expression of the Chardonnay village. Fruit, flesh, and tension for this 2013. MACON-CRUZILLE 2013: Cruzille, such a magical name for all those who have visited this preserved area of viticultural countryside, an isolated place with no cell phone connection. This cuvée also comes from very old vines that are plowed and certified organic. A cousin of Vignes du Maynes, to sum it up. It is a confirmation for us that this terroir delivers a unique fruit and a perfect balance, which merits recognition as a Mâconnais Cru. 2013, as usual, exemplifies this great Cru of the northern Mâconnais. A favorite! VIRE-CLESSE CLIMAT LA VERCHERE 2013: AOC Viré-Clessé, which unites the two AOCs Mâcon-Clessé and Mâcon-Viré, has been a Mâconnais Cru since 1999, with Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Loché, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Saint-Véran. Our Viré-Clessé Climat La Verchère comes from 55-year-old vines in the village of Viré, North of Mâcon. This beautiful East-facing plot of vines planted on plowed clay-limestone soils, reveals the noble terroir of Viré. 2013 La Verchère assures its stature as a grand terroir. Citrus and noble bitter notes. A favorite! VIRE-CLESSE CLIMAT SOUS LES PLANTES 2013: Our Viré-Clesse Climat Sous Les Plantes shares only the appellation name of Viré-Clessé with La Verchère. Indeed, the Sous les Plantes is situated South of Viré on a terroir more geographically close to Clessé. The soil is silty with limestone underneath. I beg your pardon? Did you say silty? Well, yes, great Burgundy may also grow on soils other than clay and limestone. The soil is plowed, and the old vines (65 to 80 years) produce small, consistently ripe grapes. Tons of minerality in 2013! SAINT-VERAN CLIMAT EN COMBE 2013: Located on the exceptional Chasselas slope, facing south, the old, plowed vineyard of Saint Véran En Combe extracts the minerality and fruit of this great terroir. The high level of oxidized iron in the soil here makes for a wine with great aging potential. Always a bit closed when young, this wine begins opening up after about 2 or 3 years in bottle. 2013 is very ripe, a different style than previous vintages. SAINT-VERAN CLIMAT CUVEE JULLY L EPHEMERE 2013: Beautiful cuvée, produced only in this vintage, making it, thus, ephemeral. The vines are located on the Les Jully slope in the sector of Leynes and produce very small and concentrated grapes. 2013 has balance and elegance. POUILLY-LOCHE CLIMAT LA COLONGE 2013: There are only 30 hectares in the smallest Mâconnais appellation. A twin sister of Pouilly-Vinzelles (50 ha)? Yes and no, as even though the appellation is small, there are two types of soils: one that is atypical and composed of schists, and another that is clay-limestone and similar to the Climat Les Buchardières in Pouilly-Vinzelles. Our Pouilly-Loché La Colonge is found on this second version, exposed east. 2013 gourmand, round and very charming. POUILLY-LOCHE CLIMAT LES MURES 2013: The climat LES MURES is without a doubt the best terroir of Pouilly-Loché. The clay-limestone soils here are red, charged in oxidized iron. Let s repeat: it s a very grand terroir! The old-timers say that this climat Pouillote (in reference to Pouilly). This is a rich, mineral, very long wine, with fruit, but that will need 2 or 3 more years of cellaring before fully revealing itself. Once again, a beautiful wine in 2013. With flesh and juice, it s vinous. A favorite! POUILLY-FUISSE CUVEE TERRES DE VERGISSON 2013: This cuvée comes from the most mineral village in the appellation. Let yourself be guided by the mineral tension, the vibrancy of the wine, that seems to ricochet throughout the rocky circle of land between the Roches de Solutré and Vergisson ;-) 2013 is already open and seducing, yet remains tense. A great Vergisson!

POUILLY-FUISSE CUVEE LE CLOS REYSSIE 2013: (Available early 2015) Le Clos Reyssie is without a doubt the most well-known terroir in the village of Chaintré (one of the four villages producing Pouilly-Fuissé). 2013 update: the cuvée is now a blend of 2 parcels the original one, located at the bottom of the slope, and a new one, located in the best part of the Climat, at the top of the slope with a full eastern exposure, facing the rising sun. 2013, full-bodied, with density, a great and balanced wine! A favorite! POUILLY-FUISSE CLIMAT EN CAREMENTRANT 2013: (Available early 2015) The high altitude of Vergisson (about 350 meters) and the southern exposure of the Climat En Carementrant doubtlessly make this grand terroir one of the best in Pouilly-Fuissé. The vines, 50 to 60 years old, are exposed south, under the majestic cliff of the Roche de Vergisson. 2013 is exceptional! A vintage not to be missed by lovers of this terroir. A favorite! POUILLY-FUISSE CLIMAT LA ROCHE 2013: (Available early 2015) La Roche is certainly THE noblest terroir in Vergisson, exposed east at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. Here too, the 50- year-old vines, coming from 2 parcels located a mere 300 meters apart, draw quintessential minerality. A wine for the purist, but that will also seduce the novice. 2013 is full of fruit. A consistent wine, remaining true to itself. POUILLY-FUISSE CLIMAT LES CHEVRIÈRES 2013: Along with Le Clos Reyssie, the other great terroir of Chaintré. We are so lucky to be able to offer this new cuvée, from very old vines, exposed west, on soils that are very particularly rich in oxidized iron, rocky but with lots of clay as well. The grapes produced here are very small, even millerandés! A wine with great aging potential! 2013 is full of fruit, powerful, and will need 2 to 3 years of ageing at least before becoming fully appreciable. Very limited quantities! A favorite! POUILLY-FUISSE CLIMAT LES CRAYS 2013: Those who know Vergisson know this magical terroir well. Its fame is undeniable. We ve been dreaming for a long time now for the opportunity to share it with you. Les Crays is located under the Roche de Vergisson, next to En Carmentrant, but on a steeper part of the slope, with soils that are red an rich in active limestone, facing south. This parcel is meticulously cared for and the grapes are partially millerandés. When will they start classifying Grand Cru terroirs in the Mâconnais?! 2013 is full of fruit, minerality, still reserved, but it s worth waiting to drink in 2016, not before. Very limited quantities! A favorite! Domaine Visits It is our pleasure to receive you at the domaine, only by appointment, from Monday to Sunday. History 1947: La Soufrandière, an old estate in Vinzelles in the Southern Mâconnais (Southern Burgundy), was bought by Jules Bret, a medical professor. The surface area planted with vines was only one hectare (2.47 acres), all in the AOC Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat "Les Quarts". The only remaining testimony to its past viticultural life was a tinailler (a traditional Mâconnais house used as a vat-room) complete with an old-fashioned wine press. Jules BRET and his wife Louise (from Vinzelles) started to expand La Soufrandière by acquiring plots of vines next to those already under the estate ownership. All the vines were then worked by share-croppers, and the resulting crop was vinified and commercialised by the local Cooperative (Cave Coopérative de Vinzelles). 1969: Jean-Paul BRET, Jules and Louise Bret s third son in a family of four children, became manager of La Soufrandière. The surface area planted with vines expanded to 4.55 ha (11.11 acres): 4 ha of Pouilly- Vinzelles Climat "Les Quarts" and 0.55 ha of Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat "Les Longeays". 1998: La Soufrandière withdrew from the Cave Coopérative de Vinzelles as Jean-Guillaume and Jean- Philippe, two of Jean-Paul et Marie-Rose BRET s three sons, joined the domaine. 1991-2000: The BRET family s dream and goal became to produce great Southern Burgundy wines. Thus, from 1991 to 2000, the sons pursued studies in winemaking. 2000: A year of transition and revolution, 2000 was the first vintage vinified, aged and bottled by La Soufrandière. This year also marks the domaine s conversion to organic and biodynamic viticulture. 2001: The négociant label BRET BROTHERS was created, with the goal of buying grapes (harvested by their own team) from parcels of old vines and prestigious terroirs of the Mâconnais. 2004: La Soufrandière acquired Mâcon-Vinzelles Le Clos de Grand-Père, originally belonging to their maternal grandfather. From 2006 to 2008, the domaine took over 3 hectares of Beaujolais-Leynes, with an ideal eastern and southeastern exposure, planted with old Gamay. 2010: Marc-Antoine, the third brother, joined the team in November 2010. 2012: Cellar extension work finished. An underground space of 480m2 now allows for better vinifying, aging and cellaring conditions for our prestigious Mâconnais terroirs. 2014: Tragic passing of Marc-Antoine.
