Domaine Pierre Damoy Pierre Damoy has been responsible for this impressive estate since July 1992, taking over from his uncle. Pierre found himself at the helm of what is one of the jewels of the Côte d Or: 25 acres of vines, 75% of which lie in 3 of the most esteemed Grands Crus in Burgundy. The Domaine owns 35% of the magnificent Chambertin-Clos de Bèze growth and 40% of Chapelle-Chambertin. Pierre Damoy took the reins of this impressive estate from his uncle in 1992, as is common in Burgundian succession plans. The estate operates in the Côte d Or with 25 acres of vines and includes some of the most esteemed Grands Crus in Burgundy including Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. This cool little red has notes of bay leaf, red cherry and spice that follow through to a palate of much the same, as well as rustic notes of wet stone and forest floor. The Givry Rouge delivers aromas of cherry, spice and a hint of bay leaf, following through to the palate where signature forest floor notes add to the layers of complexity.
Domaine Pierre Matrot Thierry et Pascale Matrot A family estate for six generations, based in Mersault. Currently run by Thierry and Pascale Matrot. Burgundy heritage on show, Domaine Matrot is a sixth generation family estate. Based in Meursault, the holdings include premier cru vineyards in Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, terroir known for oozing their precise characteristics. Domaine Matrot Meursault-Perrieres 1er Cru 2014 NEW PRICE $95 The greatest of all Meursault wines, which, as all experts and wine lovers agree, would deserve to be classified as a Grand Cru. Complete malolactic fermentation and battonage, maturing on lees for 11 months. It certainly possesses the strength and finesse of one. It will reveal all of its richness and complexity after seven to ten years. Pure and fresh floral, spice and orchard fruit aromas are a suggestion of the layered palate to come. Densely flavoured, with a powerful, impressive finish. Domaine Matrot Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2014 Limited, EEC STAFF PICK NEW PRICE $95 This unctuous and delicate Premier Cru from Puligny-Montrachet, a neighbour of Meursault - Les Charmes, combines strength and finesse. Cellar it for five to seven years in order to give it time to develop. Complete malolactic fermentation and battonage, maturing on lees for 11 months. Spicy, white floral and stone fruit aromas, with just a hint of oak to add to the complex nose. The palate is powerful and rich, with citrus notes appearing just before a long, mouth-filling finish.
