Is is recommended that before using the espresso maker for the first time, fill it to the MAX mark and run it without using coffee as per the instructions below. Discard the hot water once the espresso maker automatically cuts off. OPERATION OF YOUR BREVILLE CAFFEO ESPRESSO MAKER 1. Fill with water Position the power base on a firm, level surface close to a power outlet. Ensure that the power plug is not plugged into a power outlet at this stage. Unscrew the carafe from the boiler, then lift the coffee basket out of the top of the boiler. Fill the carafe with fresh water up to, but not above the MAX mark inside the carafe (300ml). Use the carafe to pour water into the boiler. 2. Fill with coffee Fill the coffee filter basket with ground coffee to the rim and lightly tamp (press down) the coffee. Place the filter basket back into the boiler, running your finger along the rim to remove any loose coffee grounds and screw on the carafe. For best results, use coffee ground for percolators. The strength of the coffee can be reduced by using a lighter roast or using less ground coffee. If the coffee is pressed down too hard in the filter basket, water will take longer to pass through the ground coffee resulting in a bitter taste. 6 7

Plug the power supply cord into a 230/240V power point and switch on The On/Restart button will light up, and will stay on until the brewing is complete at which time the auto cut off feature will turn the unit off. Lift the espresso maker and pour. The espresso maker may be stored on its cordfree base. The power should be switched off at the power outlet and then the power plug removed from the power outlet. A pressure valve is fitted as a precaution to stop pressure from building if coffee blocks the holes in the filter basket. If water can be seen dribbling down the side of the boiler, switch off the power outlet, unplug the power supply cord and allow the unit to cool down before cleaning the coffee filter basket. Place a saucer upside down on top of the coffee filter basket, hold in place, then invert the saucer and boiler together Lift the boiler off. Empty used coffee grinds into a bin and clean the coffee filter basket under a running tap.
