San Miguel de Allende. San Miguel de Allende is a town of about 110,000 in the high desert of central Mexico. Boasting a mild, dry wonderful climate, this unique colonial town has a flavor all in its own, whose many ingredients include cobble stone streets, burros carrying firewood, painters, photographers, sculptors, dazzling sunsets, wonderful restaurants, and a town square bursting with mariachis. San Miguel offers visitors all kinds of activities. Choose from a week long art class at one of the numerous local art academies, a ride in a hot air balloon, a weekend cooking class, Pilates, yoga, Zen meditation, or cleansing with a shaman. Swim in thermal waters, spend a day at a spa, or be more adventurous with mountain biking, four- wheeling hot air balloon, or horseback riding. A stroll through town delights the eye with all the colorfully painted buildings and the many tempting shops. At dusk, have a cold ''cerveza'' at Los Portales downtown, enjoy a local restaurant, and then dance until dawn at one of the lively night spots.
What to do: Morning Take a stroll in the heart of downtown and then enjoy a delicious breakfast at Cumpanio, correo #29, or at Café de La Parroquia in Jesus Street. Café Contento, Hernandez Macias #72, offers from a sit down breakfast to coffee to go. Considering its great location and great ambiance, it is definitely a great option. El pegaso, corregidora # 6 one of the local favorites, my favorite chilquiles rojos!! The bagel café, in Correo Street, has the best bagels in the region. Juan s Café, Relox 37, is another great option for breakfast or lunch, Very san Miguel. Café Muro, calle Loreto 10-B, offers great Mexican antojitos. So if you have a slight craving for sopes or enchiladas this is the place. San Agustin, san Francisco #21, famous cafeteria due to its renowned owner, Margarita Gralia, Offers a variety of hot chocolate and churros, but that s not all the also have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just make sure to go early, since the place is small and there is always somewhat of a wait.
Rincon de Don Tomas, situated in the heart of San Miguel s square. Great place to sit and chat while having a cup of coffee and see what San Miguel is all about. Also near the Parroquia you will find Ten Ten Pie, Cuna de Allende #21, located a block back from the Parroquia. This place offers a breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its terrace and location make it a wonderful option. Tortitlan, Juarez #17, if you are in the mood for a great torta this is the place. After breakfast, you can opt for a swim in one of our local hot springs. Check out la Gruta or Escondido. Take a taxi, you can get one in every street and they are very inexpensive, it will be about 15 minutes to get there, tells the driver to pick you up at a certain time. Or, you can just walk, and admire our beautiful architecture, San Miguel is world Heritage site and is looking more beautiful every day, the weather in May Might be hot the rainy season might start in July, so if is hot or rainy you can take your time to enjoy a refreshing drink in one of the outdoor/indoor cafes in the center of town.
Visit our markets, where you will enjoy all the color and the smell of Mexico, walk our streets, San Miguel is a shoppers paradise, for inexpensive arts and crafts walk the side streets of the Mercado Allende, for blown glass, La Casa de Vidrio has the largest selection in town, we have wonderful art galleries, and jewelry stores. Canal, Zacateros, Hernandez Macias, and Correo streets are a must. For lunch: Are you in the mood for some authentic Mexican food?? La Alborada is a very small and inexpensive good restaurant in Diez de Sollano. Bougainvillea located in Mesones # 101. Pueblo Viejo, has the feel of an old town and the food is very good, try the molcajete, but make sure you are hungry or you are sharing. Umaran # 6 La Azotea, located inside Pueblo Viejo on the rooftop. This place offers stunning vies and great tapas. I highly recommend the jicama shrimp tacos. Atrio: in cuna de Allende fabulous view, amazing food and service. The Restaurant great food, amazing patio. Diez de Sollano # 16. La Cevicheria: amazing ceviches and great fish tacos, is a must. Correo in the corner of Diez de Sollano
Felling homesick head on down to Hecho en Mexico located in Ancha de San Antonio # 8, and enjoy their rosemary chicken Hotel Matilda offers renowned chef Enrique Olvera s Moxi. Everything is absolutely incredible; the address is Aldama # 53 The Rosewood hotel offers great salads, hamburgers and a beautiful view of the city s skyline. Calle Nemesio Dias # 11. La Parada, Recreo # 96. Peruvian cuisine. Rated #1 on trip advisor, no need to say more. If you are looking to satisfy you sweet tooth make sure to stop by Petit Four, Mesones 99-1, you will find a great variety of freshly baked croissants, sandwiches, French baguettes, etc. Please don't leave without trying some of their delicious chocolate truffles with Mescal or a traditional French macaroon in a variety of flavors. If you are in the mood for something out of this world then make sure you try an éclair au chocolate or one of the mixed fresh fruit tartlets. Or if you are in the mood for a light lunch stop by at Nectar, Correo #43, enjoy a salad and a tee. They have a wide variety of tees. Afternoon Feeling like being pampered, enjoy a massage. Matilda s spa is a great option or the Spa at Dos Casas is
sooo great, look for it at Quebrada # 101. Or you are looking to pamper yourself or that special someone with a special something. Daniel Espinosa, Umaran #1, is the place. You will find exclusive design in jewelry here. If you are the artsy type, well the whole town is a piece of art, but you will also find many art galleries in town such as: Casa Diana, Recreo #48. Galeria Nudo, Recreo #10 B. Fabrica la Aurora San Miguel is known for its beautiful sunsets, so head to La Azotea at Pueblo Viejo where you can sip a Margarita or Mojito and enjoy one of their great tapas. La Grotta: Cuadrante # 5.Great pizzas La Luna at Rosewood, one of the best views in town. La Terraza del Pegaso is also a great option. Hotel 1810 has an amazing view of town. Hidalgo Street.
Dinner Jazz and very good Mexican food, Tio Lucas is your place, everything is good. Mesones 103. If yuo are in the mood for traditional Mexican food head on over to La Posadita, Cuna de Allende #13, and enjoy your favorite Mexican dish while enjoying the breath taking views of the city. Dos Casas has an extraordinary chef, give it a try. Aperi is the name of the restaurant. The address is Quebrada # 101. The Rosewood hotel has an amazing smoked tuna, try it. The brunch on Sundays is really great Doce: Relox # 12. Visit the food court, they have everything. Food factory, great ambiance, fusion food at the La Aurora factory Mezcaleria San Mezcal: Recreo # 96. Great variety of mescals. Now.. San Miguel has a great night scene.

Mama Mia, located on Umaran, has 4 different bar areas, making it a great option for all age groups. Salsa is played in the restaurant area every day, but it is best on Fridays, and Saturdays after 9:00 p.m. The rock band (young) is happening Friday and Saturday, from 11-4. La azotea (roof top) young, Friday and Saturday. If you like mescal, la Mescalero is your place. They offer a great variety of different flavored cocktails with mescal. Excellent for hot days or just to unwind. El Grito. Night club for the young crowd. Nice place to go after Mama Mia if you still have energy to burn. Duke Mesones # 99 A club for the young. Great music and party environment.
