THE DON AND THE SIGN OF THE DON PRIVATE DINING ROOMS Welcome to The Don and The Sign of The Don private dining rooms the City s most charming and characterful venues for private events, be they Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Champagne and canapé parties, business meetings, corporate dinners, private celebrations or wine tastings. Wine has been an integral part of 20 23 St. Swithins Lane since 1798 when the young Perthshire Scot George Sandeman took over the site as the cellar for his port, sherry and wine company, and rolled his barrels up from the Thames under the Lane to the medieval cellar. Today only 30 metres of that original medieval mault still exists and, with the help of City conservation and English Heritage, it was restored and officially opened in 2014 by the Lord Mayor of London, to be used as the cellar for the Don and The Sign of The Don s remarkable wine collection. You can taste these wines in our impressive range of unique private dining rooms featured here. THE SANDEMAN ROOM Our stunning vaulted Sandeman Room can seat up to 24 or up to 30 for a reception. A wonderfully historic space, it is perfect for intimate and atmospheric lunches or dinners. THE RESTAURANT With seven huge windows opening on to a intimate courtyard, The Restaurant, the original Drapers Hall, features a stunning double height wine tower and seven original John Hoyland paintings. The restaurant can be booked privately for up to 44. This room can also accommodate up to 60 guests for a reception. COCKTAILS & CANAPES 60 LUNCH & DINNER MAXIMUM 44 BISTRO The Bistro reflects the history of the building with its wonderfully evocative décor the banquette seating is made from old Port vats, the ancient metal stencils on the wall celebrate the myriad ports to which Sandeman shipped its Ports and the Portuguese cork floor is decorated with a map of the city in 1798. Pre- event drinks can be held in the Wine Study, which connects to the dining area.
THE TASTING ROOM The Tasting Room is truly unique. It sits guarding the medieval cellar, which once led to the Thames. Guests dining in the Tasting Room may visit the restored cellar, where our remarkable wine collection is stored. The Tasting Room seats up to 18. The Don and The Sign of The Don can be hired exclusively for birthdays, engagement parties, wedding receptions, for both lunches and dinners during weekends.
