Vouvray aims for an offdry style, developing honey and floral characteristics. Coriole Chenin Blanc 2011 (dry) Australia 34

Laurent Kraft Vouvray Sec 2010 (dry) Vouvray, France 38 Domaine Pichot Vouvray 2011 (sweet) Vouvray, France 48 Chardonnay Easily the most popular white grape today, its wines include many from California and France. Chardonnay offers fruity aromas and flavors, and because of its compatibility, it is most often fermented in oak. It has medium to high acidity and is rich and full bodied. Without oak, Chardonnay generally produces a soft wine, often with fruity flavors. When aged with oak, Chardonnay can acquire a smoky, vanilla, caramel, or buttery aroma. It has the most amazing clear, golden color and the aroma of flowers and fruits at their freshest. Many talk of being surprised by the taste; the color and nose hinting at something sweeter but the actually taste being dry with a variety of nuances both on the palate and finish. McManis Viognier 2012 California 32 Freemark Abbey Viognier 2011 Napa Valley 38 Eberle Mill Road Vineyard Viognier 2011 Paso Robles 40

E. Guigal Condrieu Rhone Viognier 2005 Rhone, France 105 Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio This grape variety is medium to full bodied, with low acidity and neutral aromas. Pinot Gris wines are deeper in color than most whites, although Pinot Grigio is quite pale. Ponzi Pinot Gris 2012 Willamette Valley, OR 37 J Vineyards Pinot Gris 2013 Russian River Valley 38 Terlan Pinot Grigio 2013 Alto Adige, Italy 39 Riesling Riesling can be dynamic, and ranges from dry to sweet with a crisp lightness that bodes well for easy drinking. Often there will be an easily detectable peach and mineral complex. Riesling is a very versatile wine to have with food, because of its balance of sugar and notable acidity. It can pair with white fish, or with pork, and it is one of the few wines that can stand up to spicy foods. Riesling's typical aromas are of flowers, tropical fruits, and mineral stone. The crisp acidity and sweetness in Rieslings can serve as a very good balance to foods that are high in salt content. Dr. Loosen L Riesling 2012 (off-dry) Mosel, Germany 36 Château Ste. Michelle Riesling 2012 (off-dry) Columbia Valley, WA 40 Poet s Leap Riesling 2009 (dry) Columbia Valley, WA 44 Wolf Blass Gold Label Riesling 2007 (dry) Australia 46 Dr. Loosen Blue Slate Kabinett Riesling 2012 (sweet) Mosel, Germany 47 Château Montelena Riesling 2012 (sweet) Potter Valley 48 Gewürztraminer Gewürztraminer is known for its spicy characteristics. The name literally means "Spice Traminer", and the characteristic of the wine, rather than any specific spice, is that there is a strong smell of lychee on the bouquet. This characteristic aroma means that Gewürztraminer is classified as an aromatic wine grape. Dry Gewürztraminer may also have aromas of roses, passion fruit and honeysuckle. Ventana Gewürztraminer 2011 Monterey 32 Claiborne & Churchill Gewürztraminer 2012 San Luis Obispo 34 Trimbach Gewürztraminer 2008 Alsace, France 45 Rosé A true vin rosé is by no means a blend of red and white wines, but a special product, (usually made from red grapes alone) and owing its color to the fact that it was neither fermented entirely with grape skins (like all red wines), nor entirely without (like all white wines). Rosés are produced in

almost all wine-growing countries, and they should be served chilled and drunk young. Cotes du Rhone Heritage Rose 2013 Rhone Valley, France 32 Balletto Rose of Pinot Noir 2012 Russian River Valley 35 Miraflores Estate Rose 2012 El Dorado 38 Chateau D Aqueria Tavel Rose 2010 France 39 Pinot Noir A light colored red wine with higher acidity, and medium tannin. Joel Fleischman of Vanity Fair describes Pinot Noir as "the most romantic of wines, with so voluptuous a perfume, so sweet an edge, and so powerful a punch that, like falling in love, they make the blood run hot and the soul wax embarrassingly poetic." An earthy aroma that matches up well with mushrooms, veal, pork, and lamb. Meiomi Pinot Noir 2012 Sonoma County 38 Cambria Julia s Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011 Santa Maria Valley 45 Benton Lane Pinot Noir 2010 Willamette Valley, OR 49 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir 2011 Russian River 50 David Bruce Pinot Noir 2011 Sonoma Coast 58 Ponzi Vineyards Pinot Noir 2011 Willamette Valley, OR 65 Emeritus Vineyards Pinot Noir 2011 Russian River 68 Domaine Serene Yamhill Cuvee Pinot Noir 2010 Willamette Valley, OR 69 Fiddlehead Cellars Fiddlestix Pinot Noir 2005 Santa Rita Hills 70 Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir 2010 Carneros 72 Flowers Vineyards Pinot Noir 2009 Sonoma Coast 80 Fiddlehead Cellars Fiddlestix Pinot Noir 2009 Santa Rita Hills 85 ZD Pinot Noir 2011 Napa Valley 85 Dehlinger Goldridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2006 Russian River 85 Morgan Double L Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011 Santa Lucia Highlands 90 Siduri Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008 Santa Lucia Highlands 110 Domaine Serene Evanstad Reserve Pinot Noir 2008 Willamette Valley, OR 115 Syrah, Shiraz, Petite Sirah and Rhone Blends The Syrah/Shiraz grape produces deeply colored wines with full body, strong tannin, and strong aromas that suggest smoked meat or even burnt rubber. Syrah is from the Rhone Valley of France, but has become popular in California and Australia where is called Shiraz. Petite Sirah, also called Durif, is a tannic wine with a spicy, jammy flavor. Rhone blends often exhibit a component of Grenache and Mourvedre and can contain as many as 13 different grape varietals, as in Chateauneuf du Pape. Bogle Vineyards Petite Sirah 2011 California 34 E. Cabernet Sauvignon has a well defined aroma that is characterized by a smell of violets, blackcurrant, cedar and spice, with accents of chocolate, ripe, jammy berries, oak, pepper and earth, and even hints of eucalyptus and green pepper. Full flavors of cassis, black cherry and red berry are also prevalent. The French have been blending their Noble Bordeaux varietals for centuries. Spanish, Italian & Alternative Red Varietals Italy claims more grape varieties than any other country. The regions of Piedmonte, Tuscany and Veneto produce some of the best and well known Italian wines. The pride of Tuscany is the Sangiovese grape which produces a wine full of cherry fruit, earth and cedar such as Chiantis and Brunellos. The Piedmonte region s principal varietal is Nebbiolo, which produces an elegant wine with a bouquet of wild mushroom, truffle, roses and leather such as Barolo and Barbaresco. Barbera is one of the most food-friendly of wines, with moderate tannins and ample acidity. It is known for it s deep ruby color and dark berry flavors. Best known from Spain are the quality reds produced in Rioja. Made from the Tempranillo grape, the wine has a thick, creamy texture and fruity flavor.
