Kansas City Bier Meisters 36 th Annual Competition Guidelines Introduction to the Guidelines for the 36 th Annual KCBM Competition To create these groupings of categories and subcategories, the KCBM Competition Committee used Method 2 in Appendix A of the BJCP 2015 Style Guidelines with the entry data from the 2016, 2017 & 2018 KCBM competitions. Historical entry data was back fit to the 2015 BJCP Categories and then analyzed to produce these medal categories. One change was made from 2016 to 2017 the inclusion of Specialty IPAs with American IPAs. These groupings will be evaluated again for the 36 th Annual KCBM Competition and may be changed for the following year. The full 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines are not included in this document. Please refer to the full 2015 Guidelines for style related information. We also highly encourage all entrants to read the BJCP s preface remarks in the 2015 BJCP Guidelines to gain a full understanding of the changes from 2008 to 2015. Style descriptions from the BJCP 2015 Style Guidelines are copyright 2015 BJCP, Inc. Important changes from 2018 and prior competitions: The addition of Provisional BJCP styles: Catharina Sour and New Zealand Pilsner The number of mead & cider categories remains at 5. The previous restriction of one entry per sub category has been lifted. o However, beers/meads/ciders must actually be different creations. o For instance: same beer with different yeasts is allowable. Exact same beer, multiple entries in the same sub category, is not allowable. The categories that require special ingredients or explanations may have changed, so please read the category description. o These categories are marked with a red * symbol Category 35 will be crowned as the best blended beer, mead or cider. This category will not be eligible for Best of Show.
