NOTES AND REMINDERS FOR February 1, 2017 SOUPER BOWL OF CARING Scenic Hills is participating in the community-wide SOUPER BOWL OF CARING by having a canned food drive at school THIS WEEK! We are challenging EACH student to bring in just ONE can of food. Please send whatever you can to help needy families in our very own Springfield/Morton community. Help stop hunger one can at a time! You can also participate by donating your front yard for a Souper Bowl of Caring Sign -- it s easy, free and you don t have to do anything! The committee will bring the sign and take it down! Request your lawn sign from Don Cadge at dac1025@aol.com or call/text him at 610-742-1081. YEARBOOKS! Did you order your yearbook? The price is scheduled to go up today! Orders are only being taken online this year. Order online at www.ybpay.lifetouch.com ID Code 11195317 SPIRIT DAY IS FRIDAY!! We will be wearing red in honor of the American Heart Association and Jump Rope for a Healthy Heart! PRESIDENT S DAY Just a reminder school will be closed on February 20 for Presidents Day. BUS RIDERS: For the safety of our bus students, you must send a note to the office if you are permitting your child to get off the bus at a stop different from the one assigned, for example, to play with another child after school. Students who are not designated bus riders are not permitted to ride a bus to another student s house. ATTENDANCE REMINDERS: PA state law regarding school attendance has changed. Please note the highlights of those changes in this week s Wednesday Weekly. For reasons of safety, we ask that you telephone the attendance hotline or email ScenicAttendance@ssdcougars.org each morning of your child s absence.

PA State law and school district policy require students to submit a note or email to excuse an absence within three days of the absence. A doctor s note is required to excuse absences of three or more days. Until the note is received, the absence is coded as Unexcused. If your child has three Unexcused Absences, you will receive a letter regarding the absences. Unresolved unexcused absences may result in attendance improvement conferences or truancy proceedings. Five days of absence may be requested for family vacations. This absence must be requested and approved in advance, or it is coded as unexcused. Forms are available in the main office, or from your child s teacher. IMPORTANT DATES: The next Home and School meeting is March 1. Bingo Night is March 10. Spring Conferences are the evening of March 8 and March 14. Grades 3, 4, and 5: PSSA ELA begins April 3; PSSA Math begins April 24; PSSA Science (gr. 4 only) begins May 1.

The Community Service Club s February Project C.A.A.D.C. (Community Active Agency of Delaware County) Our project this month is to make Shower Rolls for the homeless people in Delaware County. We need to collect the following items. New Bath Towels (Staff) Brush/Comb (5 th Grade) Soap (4 th Grade) Toothbrush/Toothpaste (3 rd Grade) Deodorant (2 nd Grade) Once we collect these we will roll them up and tie ribbons on them. When the people go into the shelters they will be given a Towel Roll and they can get cleaned up and be comfortable. If you would like to donate one or more of these items please bring them to the LMC by February 18 th. Your support of the Community Service Club of Scenic Hills is greatly appreciated. Any questions feel free to contact me at any time. Pam Gurenlian Pam.gurenlian@ssdcougars.org 610-938-6620
