Charles worked around the New Iberia and Lafayette area for a while then later took a job with Howard Brother's Discount Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He remained in the Baton Rouge area for approximately three years. During this time trying his hand as a dance instructor for Fred Astaire's Dance Studios and later working as an artist.
