11 European Grapevine Moth Eradicated This year we are highlighting the successful and unprecedented eradication of the European Grapevine Moth (EGVM) from Napa County and the entire State of California. In August 2016, the United States Department of Agriculture declared the pest eradicated after a hard-fought, collaborative, seven-year battle. Never before had a region successfully won the battle against this pest. The eradication of EGVM is evidence of Napa County s, and our community s, commitment to sustainability.
12 Public interest in sustainably grown and produced agricultural products, including grapes and wine, continues to increase. Growers in Napa County employ a variety of sustainable agricultural techniques including: - natural soil enrichment - erosion control - onsite biodiversity - integrated pest management - cover crops - advanced tillage and cultural practices - natural pest predators - and careful monitoring of pest pressures prior to the use of any pesticides, including organic pesticides

16 Napa County employs a robust pest exclusion program. The Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter still poses a significant threat to the health of grapevines by being a vector for Pierce s Disease. The insect trapping program monitors for invasive pests that can cause potentially devastating crop, forest, and ornamental plant damage. If left unchecked, these pests can cause millions of dollars of damage to agriculture and trigger an increase in pesticide usage within the county.
17 Sentinel Trapping Program - Proactive effort to detect potentially detrimental pests of grapes and olives - With the exception of Olive Moth, this program is funded by the Napa County Winegrape Pest & Disease Control District through assessments collected from growers
