White Cedar Thuja Occidentalis Age 2-2 Size 7-12 This native provides excellent thermal cover for animals in winter. White Cedar can mature to 50-100 ft. tall. They can provide soil stability and provide cover for wildlife. The wood is used for pulp wood, crates, and pallets. This spruce is moderately resistant to needlecast disease. Uses: Ornamental, windbreaks, Christmas trees, wildlife food and cover Colorado Blue Spruce Picea pungens Age 2-2 Size 15-24 This ornamental conifer matures around 50 ft. tall. Douglas-Fir Psuedotsuga menziesii Age 2-0 Size 10-15 This ornamental conifer matures around 120 ft tall. These evergreen trees will grow on a variety of soils, preferring well-drained but not dry. They grow best in full sun. This species provides shelter in cover and provides food for small mammals and birds. Also makes wonderful Christmas trees. Uses: Windbreak, wildlife cover and food, Christmas trees Deciduous Trees White (Paper) Birch Betula papyrifera Age 2-0 Size 1-2 This species grows in a variety of soils but preforms best in moderately to welldrained soil. Birch matures approximately 70 ft. tall and should be planted in full sun. The attractive, papery bark makes it a popular landscape choice. Uses: Timber production, Landscaping, wildlife food Hybrid Willow Salix spp. Age 2-0 Size 1-2 Native. These extremely fast-growing trees are great for windbreaks or hedges. Willow will thrive in moist soils and can be planted along streams or lakes. Hight can range from 35-45 ft. tall when planted in a row or to 75 ft. tall when planted alone. Swamp White Oak Quercus bicolor Age 1-0 Size 1-2 This native oak is tolerant of poorly drained soils and prefers acidic and moist to wet soil. It usually matures to a height of 50-75 ft. tall but may grow up to 100 ft tall. Resistant to oak wilt and acorns are eaten by wildlife. Uses: Wildlife, erosion control, Timber, shade Black Walnut Juglans nigra Age 1-0 Size 6-12 This native tree grows best in deep, well drained to moist, fertile soils. We suggest planting near streams or lakes. This species develops large taproot and may grow to 70-80 ft. tall. Walnut is known for its valuable timber and edible nuts. Young trees need full sun. Uses: Timber production, wildlife/human food, shade Silver Maple Acer saccharinum Age 2-0 Size 1-2 This fast growing native can grow to around 80 ft. tall and can grow up to 2 feet per year. This maple is often multi-stemmed, with wide, spreading branches. It does excellent in moist soils and full sun to partial shade. Squirrels eat the buds in spring and birds will use the tree for nesting. Silver maples are perfect for treeless yards where you want quick shade. Uses: Landscaping, Timber, Shade, Erosion Control 5
Sugar Maple Acer saccharum Age 2-0 Size 1-2 This native tree grows in a variety of soils but does best in deep, fertile soils that are moist to well drained. Mature sugar maples can reach 50-80 ft. These trees provide nesting habitat for birds as well as seeds for squirrels and browse for deer. The sap is best for making maple syrup. Uses: Timber production, wildlife, maple syrup, shade Fruit Trees Pollination Some fruit trees can pollinate themselves while others need another tree. Our pear, peach, and cherry trees are self pollinating. Even so, these trees will produce more fruit with another tree. Our apple trees are not self pollinating. You will need another variety of apple to pollinate. Fruit trees of the same variety are clones of each other and essentially the same tree. All our fruit trees are bare-root and 4-5 ft. tall. Gale Gala Apple These apples bloom early with flowers are full red in color. The fruit is reliable, sweet and great for eating fresh off the tree. The apples from this tree tend to all ripen at the same time, making picking a breeze. Gale Gala is an early season bloomer, so be sure to have another early bloomer of another variety to pollinate it. 6
McIntosh Apple This tree is hardy and productive. The red and green apples are excellent to eat fresh. They also work well for applesauce, cider, and pies. The flavor is tart with firm texture. Blooms early with fruit ripening in early to mid- September. Cortland Apple This apple variety is suited for the Great Lakes Region with the ability to survive freezing temperatures. These sweet and tart apples are a general-purpose favorite. They are delicious to eat fresh and cook well. These mid-season bloomers must be pollinated by another variety of apple and ripen in mid-september. Snowdrift Crabapple The beautiful bloomer s pink buds open into showy, white flowers. The fruits stay on the tree through the winter and provide food for wildlife. This tree requires little pruning and will grow to a maximum height or width of 25 feet. Plant this tree to for wildlife, to beautify your landscape, or to provide pollination for other apple trees. Bartlett Pear This is one of America s leading commercial pear. They can be eaten fresh, used in desserts, or canned. This self-pollinator is strong growing with upright growth. This variety is very productive and deer also enjoy eating the fruit of these trees. Italian Prune Plum This purple plum has a complex and sweet flavor. The plums can be eaten fresh, cooked, processed into jams, and dried into prunes. They are packed full of fiber and antioxidants. They will self-pollinate and ripen in September. Plant multiple trees for higher yields. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Red Haven Peach This deliciously juicey variety originates from South Haven, Michigan. They are allpurpose and can be consumed fresh or preserved. Blooms late to avoid the frost and fruit ripens in late July. Self-pollinating Montmorency Tart Cherry These are the most popular tart cherries in the US, producing bright red, medium to large fruit. Montmorency cherries are best used for pies, preserves and juices. These selfpollinators produce best with two or more trees. This late bloomer s fruit ripens in late June. Black Gold Cherry This sweet cherry is heart shaped, firm, and has a good flavor. This variety is a late bloomer and is extremely frost tolerant. It attracts pollinators in late season. They can grow in sun to shade in moist to welldrained soils. This dense, multi-stemmed shrub has blue berries in September that attract wildlife. They are also used as windbreaks and to stabilize streambanks Red Osier Dogwood Cornus sericea Age 1-0 Size 12-18 This dogwood is a dense, multi-stemmed shrub that fruits white berries in the fall. Growing up to 5-13 ft. tall, this shrub can be planted in sun to shade. Its bright red stems are a beautiful winter landscape feature. It prefers moist to welldrained soils. Common Lilac Syringa vulgaris Age 1-0 Size 1-2 This fast growing shrub reaches the heights over 15 ft. tall. When planted 6-8 ft apart, these shrubs produce an effective screen in 3-4 years. It requires well drained, silty, clay, or loamy soil, does not tolerate wet soil, and are drought resistant. The large, fragrant flowers bloom in mid-spring and require full sun to bloom. Highbush Cranberry Viburnum opulus Age 1-0 Size 1-2 This native shrub is used for ornamental purposes and has edible fruits that are also eaten by wildlife. Berries can be used in sauces, jellies and juices or medicinally. Cranberry is shade tolerant, does well in moist soil and is relatively pest resistant. Butterfly Bush Buddleia davidii Age 1-0 Size 1-2 A vigorous, deciduous shrub that produces a long spike of blueish purple flowers in July and August. This shrub matures to approximately 6 ft. tall. This shrub does well in full sun and moist, well drained soils. It attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. In cold climates, it dies back and resprouts in spring. Nannyberry Viburnum lentago Age 1-0 Size 12-18 This native shrub or small tree grows up to 30 ft tall. Nannyberries are self pollinating and are moderately deer resistant. The flowers are fragrance free and off white. It produces edible fruit. These shrubs are also perfect for creating windbreaks and hedges. 10
