We visited art schools for my daughter Jennifer. She suggested that we make a sidetrip to Washington, DC to see the Cherry Blossom Festival. The Cherry Trees were a gift from Japan in 1912. Acknowledging this gift, the US sent Dogwood Trees to Japan in 1915. Thousands of Japanese Cherry Trees are planted along Tidal Basin, Washington Monument and the White House. It's become a signature image of our nation's capital. The Cherry Trees reach peak bloom typically around April 4th (it is greatly affected by weather and temperature). The peak bloom lasts for 10-15 days. We drove from Baltimore to Washington, DC one morning and parked at Potomac Park. We walked to Jefferson Memorial in the rain and saw the beautiful full-blooming Cherry Trees. We wished the rain would stop so that we could take some pictures, and after lunch the sun came out. We rushed back to the Festival where we found good angles to take pictures. Here are a few pictures selected from the trip and I hope you will enjoy them? Bob

Deb's Recipe: "Carribean Pork Chops" "Enjoy the Great Taste of the Islands at your Gasparilla party excerpted from 933fl z.com INGREDIENTS 1 can (8-oz.) pineapple rings in juice 1/4 tsp. liquid smoke 1 tsp. sea salt 1 tsp. curry powder 2 Tbsp. good dark rum 1 Tbsp. Pour marinade into a small sauce pan and bring to a boil, stir, and drop heat to low and simmer. 3. Grill chops for 10 to 15 minutes occasionally turning. A container garden would be a lovely gift for Mother s Day, or a wonderful addition to your own patio or garden. I like to use the rice bowl [see image]. The rice bowl is porous, so there s no need to worry about over watering, which is a common cause of decline in seasonal and annual plantings. When choosing your plants for your container garden, consider the growing height and width of each plant. For instance, consider tall plants such as salvias, snapdragons, or geraniums for height. Plant the tall plants in the center or toward the back of the container. You can use begonias, alyssum, vines, verbena or any other low growing plants for the sides or in front of the taller plants. The combinations are limitless so have fun this spring experimenting with all kinds of fl owering plants and containers! Jenny
