HISTORY OF THE TUGBOAT INN Welcome to the Tugboat Inn and Restaurant, a member of the Lafayette Family of hotels. Our property consists of five buildings, each with a history of its own. The Main Inn Building (which was demolished and rebuilt in 1994) was the original site of the Boothbay Boatel and more recently the Clipper Inn. The Wharf Building was once home to the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club, the Tugboat Building was once Marine Service, and the Red Building was Sawyer s Chandlery and later housed two small shops. Our inn features deluxe guestrooms with water views, balconies and all the modern amenities. We are just a short walk to the center of town where shops, restaurants, boating and fishing activities and sightseeing are plentiful. In addition, we have our own marina with slip and mooring rentals, as well as two sport fishing boats which depart daily from our own docks. Our restaurant is built out of the side of an original tugboat named The Maine, which was built in 1917. Steam powered, she worked all along the New England coast before claiming her residence as the Tugboat Lounge in 1971. At that time, the original restaurant was located on the lower level of the Tugboat Building and extended out over the water. In 1983 the restaurant was converted to guestrooms and a lounge, and a new dining room was built out of the side of the tugboat to become the restaurant as it exists today. The Tugboat restaurant features the freshest of Maine seafood, including Maine lobster and other signature seafood items, such as our famous lobster bisque, seafood newburg and seafood fettucini. We serve lunch and dinner daily, and also serve cocktails and food in our Marina Lounge which has an outside patio deck. In season we offer nightly entertainment from some of the harbor s favorite local musicians. The Tugboat Inn has established a reputation as one of Boothbay Harbor s finest destinations. The present owners, Danny and Carla Lafayette of Bangor, Maine, are committed to maintaining the high quality of products and services that the Tugboat Inn is known for. We are open from April to December, offering the best in Maine hospitality. We hope that you enjoy your visit with us, be it in the Inn, Restaurant, Lounge or Marina, and we cordially invite you to return to the Tugboat Inn again soon.
