Jefferson Times Alyssa Wooten, Principal Lauren Beith, Secretary Michele Vinyard, Clerk October 31, 2016 Dear Jefferson Families, October is coming to an end. We had an exciting month with Red Ribbon Week, our Oral Interpretation assembly, our Teen Truth Live assembly, Tracy High Parade, Foothill Band Review, Parent Teacher Conferences and our Spelling Bee. Furthermore our students are finishing up the First Trimester this week. Friday, November 4 th is the end of Trimester 1. Right now is a great time for you to have a conversation with your child about the goals they want to set for themselves for Trimester 2. Below are a few websites and resources for goal setting. A goal without a plan is just a wish. ~ Anonymous According to an article from Teaching Community, having sharp, clearly defined goals, which students can measure, will allow them to take provide in accomplishing those goals. They can see clear forward progress in what might have seemed a long drawn out process. It is suggested to set goals so that students can: - Improve their academic performance - Increase their motivation to achieve - Increase pride and satisfaction in performance - Improve their self-confidence. So, how do you set those goals? Ask your child what they would like to learn on. What is their starting point, what is their goal, and what steps they need to take in order to reach their goal? Furthermore, express the goals positively, be accurate, set priorities, keep goals small and obtainable and make sure they are goals that your child has control over. Post the goals in their planners, on the bathroom mirror anywhere! And, talk regularly with your child about their progress. http://www.educationworld.com/a_curr/profdev/profdev151c.shtml http://www.edweek.org/tm/articles/2015/01/20/10-tips-for-setting-successful-goals-with.html I d like to congratulate our school spelling bee winners: Crystal Adutwum, Osman Frever, Ella Herndon, and Pranav Jayakumar. They will be advancing on to the district level spelling bee on Wednesday, November 2 nd at 4:00 at the Jefferson School District Office (1219 Whispering Wind
