The Travel Corner This is the place to tell your neighbors about a great vacation spot you discovered, travel deal, low airfare, or a recent travel story you want to share. Near or far, send us your ideas! The first submission is from Rick Watts. We have been vacationing somewhat close to home this summer, and found two great campgrounds you may want to visit. The first is Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware. Just 2 hours away on the northern edge of Rehoboth Beach, south of Lewes, this is a great place to take the family. Until recently, the park was known mainly for its overly hot tent sites and Community Calendar abundant bugs. The state spent millions over the winter on new bathhouses and converting most tent camping spots to RV/Camper pad sites with electric and water. There are still some primitive tent sites as well. For about $40 per night, you can stay at the shore and walk to the Atlantic Ocean Beaches or Delaware Bay. The campground has a restored observation tower to climb, nature center, fishing pier, and bike trails that link Lewes, the Cape May Ferry, and Rehoboth. They will even lend you bikes for free! It is open year-round but unfortunately the word has spread about this gem of a park, and it can fill up quickly in season. You can book on line up to a year in advance. My advice is to do it! I have to thank my friend Jim Logan for telling me about Jane s Island State Park in Crisfield. It is about 30 minutes Garden Club Meeting, Wednesday, September 20th, 7pm, Park Crab Feast, Saturday, September 23rd, 3pm, Community Beach Cape Henlopen September 2017 Issue 1

south of Salisbury and overlooks a beautiful marsh on the Chesapeake Bay, less than 2 miles north of downtown Crisfield. They offer canoe and kayak rentals to explore over 60 miles of marshland water trails. Bring your own power boat if you like-there is a boat ramp at the park. You can crab on the piers and canal bulkhead that fronts the campground area. For those who need indoor accommodations, there are several waterfront cabins for rent as well. It is an easy flat bike ride into Crisfield for a seafood dinner. Or take the ferry for a day trip from Crisfield to Tangier or Smith Island. We found the park very peaceful Sunday- Wednesday, but it gets busier on the weekends. What great sunsets too! Both of these parks are only a short drive from our neighborhood. They offer a nice, inexpensive way to vacation with your family. Follow these links to your next adventure! Entertainment to see more of the Goetz family at our community events! Sean and Colleen Foley both work for the US Coast Guard, and are currently based at Ordnance Road. They are living in the Bailey house at 326 Edgewater (right behind our community sign.) Sons Matthew (2) and Sean (4) round out the pack. The family moved back to Maryland after a 3 year deployment to San Francisco. Both like to mountain bike and hope to meet other families with young kids in North Shore. Please stop by and say hello if you get the chance. Beach Report September 1, 2017 Welcome Please welcome new neighbors Martin and Stacey Goetz to North Shore. They come to us from North Carolina via Annapolis, and purchased the Lott residence at 1139 Valley Drive. Martin works for Northrup Grumman and Stacey is with I-Level Brands. Daughter Samantha was home on break from Salisbury, and Carver studies at UNC Charlotte. Nick will be a rising Junior at Chesapeake High this fall. They report already meeting several neighbors on Valley Drive and are enjoying the friendliness of our community. Expect As we are getting close to the end of another successful, enjoyable summer season at the North Shore Beach, I wanted to let you know that there are still a few prime dates available for Beach rentals, for personal, business or organizational events. If you do want to rent the beach, please let me know as soon as possible, to reserve your date. For those who do rent the beach, I am always happy to unlock the chain to the Beach Pavilion so that you can unload any supplies for your activity. We just ask that you only drive your vehicles on the gravel road. Please do not drive on the grass, as it really messes up the grass and leaves tire tracks on the play areas, especially when the ground is wet, as it has been for most of this summer. September 2017 Issue 3

We also ask that if you move the picnic tables around for your event, that you return them to their original positions when you leave. Looking forward to seeing you all at the annual North Shore Crab Feast, Saturday, September 23rd. at the Beach Pavilion. Mark your calendar and be sure to look for the notice to be distributed shortly. Doug O'Connell Beach Chair djogov78@gmail.com Treasurer s Report June and July 2017 Roads & Zoning There are several areas around the neighborhood that require road-side tree and brush clean up. As a safety issue, as well as aesthetically, some of the foliage is overgrown and is a hazard for walkers/ joggers/bikers especially around North Shore/Edgewater/Dutchship Roads. Please take a minute and assess your yard for anything that could potentially encroach on the roadway, and limit visibility. Thank you, Laurie Gardner lauriejeangardner@gmail.com The starting balance for June was $36,418. The revenue for June and July was $1,479 which included dues, marina donations, beach reservations, Barnacle income, interest, slip fees and keys for the marina ramp. The checking account for the marina fund had $24,655 by the beginning of June. There was $3 in interest and $60 in revenue. This gives a final balance in the marina fund of $24,718. The expenses for the two months were moving the money to the marina fund ($60) and the BGE bill for both sites, Gotugo, mowing, more cleanup expenses, summer fling food, 4 th of July food as well as pier maintenance for a total of $3,161.49. The balance at the end of July was $34,736 in the general account. Garden Club and Friends of the Gardens The next Garden Club meeting will be on September 20 th at 7pm. We will meet at the park on the picnic table. At this meeting we are going to go over the needs of each garden for the fall. If you are unable to attend and have ideas or suggestions please contact me before the 20 th. Everyone is welcome. Park Thank You Neighbor! Have you seen North Shore's playground recently? Whether or not you have children/grandchildren who utilize the facilities, please consider coming out to help restore the Park. I would like to get a group together that will help in the planning and restoring of this wonderful asset in our community. Thank you to Ted & Jackie Tepper for delivering the July issue of The Barnacle North Shore Galley Hot Bacon Caprese Salad Please contact me if you can help.
