The 2011 Frankston Amateur Winemakers Guild Annual Show The FAWG Annual Show was held on Sunday 29th of August at The Briars Barn. The weekend started Friday evening with a good squad of volunteers to help put up the tables and set up all the wine entries. The entry numbers were slightly down on 2010, and most of these were from the barrel samples, which could be expected due to the decline in available grapes this vintage. Taking this into consideration, the number of entries which was just on 400 was consistent with last year in most other categories. Elaine and Chris judged the liqueurs on the Friday night. On Saturday it was an early start for the volunteers to ensure everything was ok WINE RACKS MADE TO ORDER before the judges arrived, with all stewards assigned their tasks for the day, the judging kicked off at 9.00 am and continued through to around 5.00 pm. Once the judging was complete, the task of setting up for Sundays show started and went on into the night. Sunday morning, the weather Gods have blessed us with a great day. The Show opened at 9.00 am with ticket sales of almost 220 at the door and around 60 tickets issued to entrants, the days attendance was around the same as for last year. Entrants received their results and medal certificates as the arrived with the total medals awarded, 22 Gold, 52 Silver and 99 Bronze. A list of the FAWG medal winners is on page 3. It was a fabulous day with plenty of great wines and liqueurs to be sampled and the school bands playing out on the lawn. The Show Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Judges for their huge effort, and all the volunteers from setting up, stewarding, catering, glass washers, data processors and all the others who assisted in any way. It all came together to make it another memorable show.
