Executive Summary In a survey we took at the Student Union on Friday at 2 p.m., we attempted to determine the best French fry in Razor Ranch based on the preferences of 23 UNT students who agreed to sample each of 4 different fries and give us their feedback. The students judged the fries, which we bought at the same time from Chic-Fil-a, Whataburger, McDonalds, and Braums, based on the following criteria. Saltiness Oiliness Freshness Cost Taste When the survey was given the fries were marked A, B, C, D, and only we, the people giving the survey, knew which fry went with what letter. This way we did not have any bias surveys and our data will be factual. After each French fry we had the people being surveyed drink a sip of water this way the tastes did not get mixed up from fry to fry. After trying each fry we asked them to fill out a survey which had the categories listed above and a blank space next to it. We asked that they rate each category on a scale from one to ten, one being the worst and ten being the best. Afterwards we tallied up the scores and made charts according to what the people put on their surveys. We found that the students preferred Chic-Fil-a s waffle style fries, leading in oiliness, freshness, and taste. Overall 58% of our tasters preferred Chic-Fil-a over the other 3 fries.

Introduction Razor Ranch is a fast food heavy area next to large stores like Wal-Mart and Sam s Club. This attracts many University of North Texas students. As each student passes through to run an errand they at some point will consider stopping and getting lunch at one of these establishments. Each fast food place on Razor Ranch offers a variety of foods to choose from with typically fries as a standard side. Fries are an important consideration when looking for a delicious hot meal on the run. This how ever does not always prove to be the case as some chains of fast food giants care more about their potato side dishes than others. We will test the popularity of each of the following chain s fries for student favorability: Chick-Fil-A A Waffle shaped/cut fry that is cooked in canola oil. Lowest Sodium of all competitors Whataburger South United states only. Thin cut fry McDonalds Based on calories, grams of fat and LDL fats, and the second least detrimental fry. Bruams Crinkle cut style French fry. In the following reports we examine each option and recommend the most delicious fry based on student popularity.

Methods To support our recommendations, we evaluated each brand of fry based on the following criteria: Saltiness Oiliness Freshness Cost Taste To gather information for the evaluation, we first purchased a large fry from each establishment. To cut down on time between the purchases (and over-all freshness) we each bought one from an establishment and met up outside the Union. We then laid out the fries in 4 piles allowing passerby s to sample each fry without being told the brand. 23 individuals volunteered their time. After trying al of the fries we had to offer we asked them to take a quick survey to rate the fries in the categories above on a scale from one to ten.

Results We did a survey on the best french fry in Razor Ranch. We took a survey outside the Student Union and asked passing students to come sample four French fries. After trying all four they rated them on a scale from one to ten, based on criteria. The table below shows the results of the survey after the students finished reviewing the four French fries. Chic-fil-a s French fries had the best overall score compared to the others. Best Fry Whataburger 4 McDonalds 6 Bruams 2 Chick-fil-a 11 Below is another graph that helps you see the how diverse the results are. Chic-fil-a has the lead out of the other competitors, scoring a 58% of the consumers. When we asked people to take our survey, we asked them to rate the fries on these categories: saltiness freshness oiliness taste cost Sales 10% 9% Chi-fil-a 23% 58% McDonalds Whataburger Bruams

We asked the students what the biggest influence was that made them choose Chic-fil-a and they replied with freshness. To be clear what freshness meant to most people we then asked what is freshness to them, and they replied how crunchy and crisp the fries are. Resulting in the answers as Braums fries were too soggy, Whataburger s were a little more crisp but still soggy, McDonalds fries were crisp but too crisp and a little over cooked and Chic- fil-a was just the right amount of cooked, crisp and freshness. Cost was the other comparison on the list. However they were around the same price and the same distance from the college students. Costs Bruams, 1.72 Chic-fil-a, 1.55 Whataburger, 1.48 McDonalds, 1.29 The chart above shows the prices of each of the fast food restaurants and how much they cost for a medium fry. As you can see Chic-fil-a and McDonalds are the two cheapest French fries in the group. These were the two main reasons the people chose Chic-fil-a.

Recommendation Introduction This report provides data on the best tasting fast food drive though French fries in Razor Ranch by consumer voting. Razor Ranch was developed in 2010 as a mixed use development of 400 acres on North Texas real estate. The property has parks, housing, a hospital, shopping and most important: Food. Razor ranch has restaurants all over its property from Cowboy Chicken to Panda Express and Star Buckets to McDonalds. As a large shopping area nothing is better than driving through your favorite fast food and getting a medium fry to go. But which fries are best? A UNT Techm class has done research just for the people of Denton to find out which fries taste the best on the go. Methods The UNT technical writing class conducted a sampling of four fast food drive through French fries on their campus by: Taste Saltiness Oiliness Price Freshness The sampling was taken place on UNT campus because Razor Ranch is so close to college students that is a likely destination for students to stop by on their way to school. Sampling Methods During sampling, the technical writing students followed these procedures: Purchased fries at the same time Arrived to University Union at the same time Placed each brand of fries on four lies (Hiding the name of the brand) Asked random students to sample the friends and rate them 1-10 on our survey sheets and explain why Read over charts to analyze which were best on each category Recorded data Result As a result, we found that Chick-fil-a was high on the consumer voting list by taste, cost, and freshness. Students chose McDonalds next, by their taste, cost, and saltiness. The following graph shows the rates the students gave the food:

As a result of the testing of French fries at UNT by students, Chick-fil-a and McDonalds are the two best choices out of the four. If you re looking for fries with the least amount of oil of them Chic-Fil-a is your best choice. Behind Chicfil-a you have Whataburger and McDonalds as least oiliness. Braums had to most oil on them making them very soggy for the consumers, not crisp. If you re looking for fries with the least salt taste then your best bet is with Braums. However with so little salt, the students said it was like they had no flavor to them. Behind Braums the least salty fry is between Chick-Fil-a and Whataburger. Students said they had just the right amount of salt to be tasty but not too salty. McDonalds was the worst on salt, consumers said it was too salty, making them want to get more to drink then more to eat. If you re looking for freshness in you fries, Chick-Fil-a was ranked with a 9, the highest out of all the fries. Braums was ranked with a 2, meaning that they fries were very soggy so they didn t taste fresh and crisp. Whataburger and McDonalds were both ranked with a 5 on their freshness. If you re looking for best cost for your fries, McDonalds was the lowest price of them all, earning a full 10 on cost. Whataburger and Chick-Fil-a were around the same price, scoring an 8. And Braums with the lowest at 6. If taste is the number one thing you re looking for then you should choose Chick-Fil-a. Student consumers said they had the best taste of them all. They weren t soggy, didn t have too much salt on them, and were just the right amount of crispy. Braums scored the overall worst on taste due to sogginess, no flavor, and not enjoyable.
