This trend caused the ontrade channel to develop at a stronger rate than the more mature off-trade channel. Competitive coffee category Local coffee manufacturers are becoming more determined to add value to their products through bran ding and marketing strategies, which has caused the gourmet niche sector to expand considerably. The vast majority of these new brands target the premium segment, especially tourists looking for souveni rs. Domestic manufacturers remain strong in hot drinks Domestic manufacturers maintained their leadership in both the tea and coffee sectors in 2010. The lo cal coffee brand Café Rey and tea brands Paramondais and Manza Té lead in both categories due to th eir top of mind positioning, accessible prices and high quality. However, in the tea and other hot drink Customer Service Hotline:400-666-1917 Page 3 of 12
s sectors, international brands are gaining ground thanks to their innovative products. Mature sectors are popular via off-trade while emerging ones lead the on-trade The mature off trade channel continued to be the preferred purchase channel for hot drinks, due to the wide availability of products and accessible prices. However growth rates were fairly stagnant. The on -trade channel remained much smaller, although the increasing trend of ontrade hot drinks consumption was reflected in high growth rates, which boosted sales of this emerging channel. Innovation will be the key driver over the forecast period The hot drinks sector is expected to perform well during the forecast period driven by continuous inno vation mainly in coffee and tea. As local consumers become more demanding for addedvalue products, such as flavoured teas and healthrelated characteristics, manufacturers are likely to be more innovative, thereby boosting sales of these categories. Furthermore, coffee sales are likely to be driven by the increasing trend and culture of coff ee drinking with friends in on-trade outlets.
