The day was extremely well organised and a huge crowd turned out to enjoy the many attractions. A massive thank you to the Kurrajong Public School P&C and Spring Fair Committee for your tireless efforts coordinating the fair. Planning for the fair commenced in 2014 and the committee have given up so much of their personal time to ensure that the fair was a magnificent success. Words cannot express the gratitude of the Kurrajong Public School community for all of your hard work with the Spring Fair which grossed over $65,000, raising over $46,000 for the students of Kurrajong Public School. Congratulations on a job well done! The amount of effort that has gone into planning the fair is astounding! Also, thank you to the wonderful Kurrajong community, teaching staff and administration staff for all of your support and assistance with the fair, especially to all of the community members who operated a stall or attraction at the fair. Support Staff Recognition Week This week we have celebrated the fantastic work that our wonderful support staff do at Kurrajong Public School. We are extremely lucky to have Mrs Bartley, Mrs Cook, Mrs Stapleton and Mrs Chapman at Kurrajong Public School. They do so many extra things, above and beyond their roles, to ensure that students, teachers and parents always receive a warm welcome to our office, as well as an extremely high standard of service. Thank you also to Mr Thompson our General Assistant, Mrs Miller our cleaner and Mrs Wilson our Learning Support Officer for all of the integral work they do to assist our students, staff and parents. We hope that you enjoyed the evening and were able to gain a valuable insight into the positive impact that the new reporting procedures and VCOP program will have on student learning at Kurrajong Public School. Premier s Spelling Bee Well done to Charlotte, Laura, Megan and Annie who represented Kurrajong Public School in the Premier s Spelling Bee on Tuesday 8 September at Quakers Hills Public School. All students performed very well during the competition. Congratulations on a magnificent effort! Congratulations, Thomas! Congratulations to Thomas Ojiako-Pettit for winning the eight years 100m event at the Sydney West Athletics Carnival, which was held at Blacktown Olympic Park on Wednesday 9 September. Thomas will now compete in the eight years 100m event at the NSW PSSA Athletics Carnival, representing Kurrajong Public School, Hawkesbury District and Sydney West. Good luck, Thomas! Welcome Xinran Zhu Welcome to Miss Zhu who will be working with the students of Kurrajong Public School teaching Mandarin. Miss Zhu will teach with Miss He for the remainder of term 4 and Miss Zhu will continue the Mandarin program during 2016. We will farewell Miss He during term 4, 2015. We warmly welcome Miss Zhu to Kurrajong Public School. Mrs Bartley Mrs Bartley will take some well-earned long service leave. Mrs Bartley will commence her leave on Friday 11 September and return on Tuesday 6 October. We wish Mrs Bartley a restful break and look forward to her return. Book Parade Don t forget to be organised with a book character costume for our Book Parade on Wednesday 16 September at 12.00 noon. Kurrajong Public School students are looking forward to a fantastic day! 2016 Kindergarten On Wednesday 9 September, Mrs Barwick, Mrs Franks and myself had the pleasure of visiting Blue Wren Pre-School and meeting some of the Kurrajong Public School 2016 Kindergarten students. It was fantastic to meet the students and see them having fun at pre-school. The teachers were spoilt with the boys and girls making cups of tea and serving cakes, pastries and sausages for afternoon tea. We are certainly looking forward to them starting big school in 2016. Kindergarten Enrolments for 2016 We are taking Kindergarten enrolments for 2016. If you have a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2016, please assist us by completing an enrolment form. Forms are available from the office. Please bring your child s birth certificate/passport, immunisation documents and proof of address with you. Your assistance in this matter helps with planning for 2016. If you are aware of a family in the area who has a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2016, please ask them to contact the school office. Sean Montgomery Principal Hawkesbury Eisteddfod Congratulations to everyone who took part in the speech section of the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod last week, you were all outstanding representatives of the school. It was so good to see you out on stage either by yourself, or with a partner, performing in front of a room full of people. I m sure that your parents feel really proud of you. Mrs. Horacek MindQuest 2015 On Saturday 7 th and Sunday 8 th November, 2015 the MindQuest program will be held for gifted and talented primary students from Year 1 to Year 6 at Glenwood HS. These include gifted and talented students, gifted underachievers and students with well above average ability with a special interest. Students have an opportunity to participate in over 36 exciting, fast paced courses in the two day program. They include courses in chemistry, Lego robotics, earth sciences, drama, maths, Harry Potter and much more. The cost of the weekend is $180. Stage 2 Kurrajong-Comleroy Historical Presentation On Tuesday 8 th September, to coincide with our HSIE study of the Local Area-Then & Now, Kurrajong- Comleroy Historical Society were invited to Kurrajong Public School to present a talk about the history of the local area. Mr and Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Suzanne Smith spoke about The Pansy, the local steam train that ran from Richmond station to Kurrajong and presented a slideshow, depicting local buildings, transport, schools and churches from Kurrajong, Richmond and surrounding areas. The students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and asked some thoughtful questions, when asked about what they had seen. The Kurrajong-Comleroy Historical Society, graciously presented the school with a copies of The Pansy and Kurrajong Collections, that will be kept in our school library for future generations to read. Charlotte and Bailey did a wonderful job thanking our presenters and it was noted by Mrs Smith, what beautiful manners the Year 3 and 4 students had during the presentation. To our staff and stall coordinators a HUGE THANK YOU for all your time and effort you all put into the running of your stalls, they were truly fabulous. To all our helpers - WOW! It was absolutely fantastic to see you all out working on stalls and giving up your time to help Kurrajong P.S. And last thanks to our community who came and supported our school. Together we made a memorable 2015 Spring Fair.
