DEPARTMENT H HOME CRAFTING RULES AND REGULATIONS (CAKES AND PIES) STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY ALL EXHIBITS ENTERED AT OWNER S RISK 1. All entries must be pre-registered by July 22, 2015. 2. Entries will be accepted between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. 3. ALL Cake and pie entries will be accepted between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.thursday, July 30, 2015. THIS APPLIES TO CAKES AND PIES ONLY. 4. Each exhibitor will be limited to one (1) entry in each class. 5. Cakes must be made from scratch. 6. Pie fillings must be made from scratch. Pie crusts can be either from scratch or purchased. 7. Judging will be based on flavor, texture, and appearance. 8. Items should be placed on cardboard or paper plates and covered with cellophane or clear plastic wrap. 9. One (1) copy of the recipe must accompany each entry. (Use 3 x 5 card.) 10. All cake and pie entries become the property of The Great Pocomoke Fair and will be kept in a refrigerated display for sale or auction during the Fair for the benefit of The Great Pocomoke Fair. 11. All entries must be entered in the name of the canner and will be limited to one (1) entry in each class. 3. Entries must be prepared using clear standard quart and pint canning jars. Jellies, jams and preserves may be in half-pint jars. Commercially canned food jars, such a peanut butter or mayonnaise jars will be disqualified. 4. Entries must be labeled with the name of the contents and dated with the month and year. Entries must be prepared during the current Fair year. (The name of the canner must not appear on the label.) 5. Judges reserve the right to open canned products if necessary to make the best decisions. 6. All canning should be done in accordance with the following publications available at the Worcester County Cooperative Extension Office (410-632- 1972): Home Canning of Fruits and Vegetables USDA Publication; How to Make Jellies, Jams, and Preserves at Home USDA Publication. 7. All Best Collections of three (3) entries must be presented attractively in a container, basket, etc. 8. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2015 AT 8 A.M. 9. IN ACCORDANCE WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND EXTENSION SERVICE, ALL ENTRIES MUST CONTAIN A LABEL THAT INDICATES THE CONTENTS; PROCESSING METHOD (PRESSURE CANNED OR WATER BATH) AND THE PROCESSING TIME. RULES AND REGULATIONS (PHOTOGRAPHY) 3. All photos should be mounted on mat board or illustration board using spray adhesive, heat seal, or other permanent mounting medium. 4. Photos may be mounted horizontally or vertically. All photos must be a minimum of 5 x 7 and not larger than 11 x 14. 5.
