Mocktails! Already starting to crave alcohol? Why not get inventive and have a go at creating some home-made mocktails? Here are a few delicious recipe s to get you started! Driver s Punch A refreshing and healthy punch, perfect for the designated drivers. 100g cranberry 100ml/3½fl oz cranberry juice 500ml blood orange juice (Sanguinello) juice of 1 lime Thin wedges of lime Thin wedges of orange Mint sprigs 600ml Appletise, sparkling apple juice drink Put the cranberries into a medium size, rigid freezer container, cover with water (by about 2.5cm), freeze until solid. Mix the cranberry juice in a large jug (about 1.5 litre) with the orange and lime juices. To serve, smash the sheet of frozen cranberries into shards and put in the bottom of eight highball glasses. Put a wedge of lime and orange and a mint sprig in each glass, then pour in the mixed fruit juices and top up with Appletise.
Faux Fizz Make a fun and fizzy mocktail for teetotal party guests. The flavours of pear, apricots, honey, lemon and rosemary make the delicious base syrup. 2 tsp apple cider vinegar sparkling water For the base syrup: 1 sliced pear 4 dried apricots 75g golden caster sugar 25g honey 1 sprig rosemary, plus extra to garnish (optional) 1 strip lemon zest To make the base syrup, put the sliced pear, dried apricots, golden caster sugar, honey, sprig of rosemary and a strip of lemon zest in a saucepan with 100ml water. Heat for 10 mins or until the sugar has dissolved and the pear is very soft, then leave to cool completely. Strain the syrup into a jug, add the apple cider vinegar and chill in the fridge for at least 30 mins. Pour about 25ml of the syrup into a champagne flute and top with cold sparkling water. Garnish with a rosemary sprig, if you like.
Pomegranite Mojito Mocktail Non-alcoholic cocktails can still be packed with plenty of cheer! This spin on the mint-and-lime classic contains delicious pomegranate seeds and juice. 3 tbsp pomegranate seeds big bunch mint 2 limes, quartered, plus slices to garnish 1 litre pomegranate juice 500ml lemonade A day ahead, divide the pomegranate seeds between the holes in an ice cube tray, top up with water and freeze. Reserve half the mint for serving, and tear the rest into a large jug with the lime quarters. Using a rolling pin, bash the mint and lime to release the flavours. Add the pomegranate juice and lemonade. Put ice cubes in each glass, then strain over the pomegranate mix through a small sieve. Garnish with lime slices and more mint.
Gin-free G&T Cater for the designated drivers at your party with this divine alcohol-free G&T mocktail. Chamomile, cardamom, mint, cloves and rosemary create the botanical flavour. 5 cardamom pods ½ cucumber 1 chamomile teabag ½ bunch mint leaves, plus extra to garnish 1 strip lemon zest 5 cloves ½ bunch rosemary Tonic water, to top up Ice A few pomegranate seeds, to garnish Bruise the cardamom pods and slice the cucumber. Put them both in a large jug and add the chamomile teabag, mint leaves, lemon zest, cloves and rosemary. Top up with 500ml cold water. Leave to infuse in the fridge for 2-4 hrs. To serve, strain the infused water and pour 50ml of it into each glass. Top up with tonic water and lots of ice. Garnish each one with a few more mint leaves and pomegranate seeds, if you like.
Mojito Mocktail Try a refreshing, non-alcoholic mojito cocktail recipe that skips the usual rum to create a booze-free blend for parties. 1 tbsp sugar small bunch mint 3 limes, juiced soda water Muddle the sugar with leaves from the mint using a pestle and mortar (or use a small bowl and the end of a rolling pin). Put a handful of crushed ice into 2 tall glasses. Divide the lime juice between the glasses with the mint mix. Add a straw and top up with soda water.
Non-alcoholic Mulled Wine Make mulled wine minus the booze with this fruity, alcohol-free recipe. Combining pomegranate juice, blackberries and spices, it s just as warming as the real deal. 500ml pomegranate juice 25g golden caster sugar A handful of frozen blackberries 250ml apple juice 1 cinnamon stick 1 star anise 4 cloves 3 black peppercorns 1 orange, quartered Put the pomegranate juice, sugar, blackberries and apple juice in a saucepan. Add the cinnamon, star anise, cloves, peppercorns and orange. Heat gently until simmering. Taste for sweetness, then strain into heatproof glasses.
