The Montmorency County Commission on Aging was recently notified that they were the recipient of a $2,500.00 Meals on Wheels Loves Pets Grant from Meals on Wheels America. Anna Rogers, Executive Director, wrote the grant as a way to assist MCCOA clients with their pet care needs due to their limited financial resources. The program is limited to current MCCOA clients with a simple application required. The funds will be utilized to provide pet food, storage containers, pet supplies, temporary boarding and delivery expenses on a case-by-case basis. MCCOA has partnered with the Elk Country Animal Shelter to provide reduced cost pet care, education to our seniors on the importance of healthy pets and storage of the products. Volunteers are being sought to assist with packaging and delivery of the items with mileage reimbursement offered. To learn more about the program or to volunteer, please call MCCOA at (989)785-2580. This is a result of the reorganization of the company as it no longer is the insurer of last resort in Michigan. To help people understand what is happening and why the increase is taking place, MMAP counselors throughout the region are holding informational sessions for Medicare beneficiaries. Attendees will receive information on other options for supplemental coverage as well. The next planned session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st at 3 p.m. at the Atlanta Senior Center, 11780 M-33 North, Atlanta. Susan Bowen, MMAP Regional Coordinator, will be presenting.
