The gardens at University House (Tin Alley) are coming into bloom and are a delightful place for members to relax. The east and west gardens are certainly some of the most beautiful licensed gardens in Melbourne. Garden BBQ: Next month, with the start of daylight savings (Sunday, 7 th October), the very popular Thursday evening BBQ returns to the west garden. Alfresco Dining in the Garden: The east garden will again be available for private lunches and smaller groups to dine in the warmer weather. New Spring Menus: Our chefs at both University House () and University House at the Woodward have created a new and exciting collection of spring function menus. Fine Dining Menu with Wine Matching: The kitchen team has also created a wonderful new fine dining menu which includes some of the finest and freshest produce available. The new fine dining menu also offers themed table design including linen and floral centre pieces and wine matching (personally selected by our resident wine expert, John Macaulay). This new menu is available at both University House at the Woodward and University House (). Dromana Estate Chardonnay 2010 The aromas begin with white stone fruit and melon, and the palate follows suit with a twist of sweet, white peach on the finish. Barratt Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay 2010 An elegant cool climate Chardonnay showing stone-fruit and citrus characters complexed with oak-derived toasty, spicy notes, all well integrated. The palate is full, rich, creamy and long and is beautifully balanced by fresh natural acidity. Dalrymple Estate Chardonnay 2010 Has aromas of fresh lemon, crushed nuts and white blossom. The palate is soft and textural similar to biting a fresh peach. The mid-palate has good weight and is balanced with the oak spice, with length driven from the natural acidity. Ellis Wines Signature Viognier 2010 Displays vibrant fruit aromas of apricot and spiciness carrying to a crisp, lingering palate displaying well integrated oak from partial maturation in new French oak barrels. We will also be attending the Melbourne City Clubs Wine Challenge hosted by the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, where our six teams will be defending the trophy won by Team Hofheins last year. Fine, powdery tannins are nicely balanced with juicy, rich, stewed plum, chocolate and dried-herb flavours that carry on to a lengthy finish. Fontanafredda Nebbiolo Langhe 2009 Aromas of red fruits and florals show through on the nose with earthy tones. The palate is medium bodied and shows off all the strawberry and gamey flavours that are expected of a Nebbiolo from Piedmont. Chapoutier Tournon Mahtilde Shiraz 2010 A fresh, medium-bodied wine that s even tempered and well balanced. Spice, aniseed, red fruit and red cherry, with a touch of eucalypt. Gentle, sweet fruit with lightly tarry, savoury elements. Clean finish with a twist of eucalyptus. A bargain. Wine Panel Value Selection. Cunning Fox Pinot Noir 2011 A lovely bouquet, showing dark cherry with a hint of vanilla and spice. The palate follows a theme of cherry, fresh strawberries, plum and a hint of cinnamon spice. Kilikanoon Killerman s Run Shiraz 2010 The nose has intensely lifted aromas of ripe plums, dark cherries and focused French oak spices. The palate carries ripe plum and dark cherry fruits from the nose, and elegantly integrates the oak, balanced natural tannins, and acidity in a persistent finish. Paracombe Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Presents good, deep colour in the glass with rich, full-fruit flavour. The bouquet has a delicious mix of aromas including ripe cherries, blackcurrant and spicy notes. The palate backs up with generous, juicy flavour. Enjoy ripe currants and berries textured with hints of fine, spicy tannins with a leisurely, long finish. Rowsley Fault Pinot Noir 2010 Strong, red-purple colour with fragrant, brooding dark fruits and spicy, dry mandarin peel. Lawson s Dry Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Lifted passionfruit, lime zest, stonefruit and floral aromatic notes produce a fresh, complex nose displaying wonderful varietal character. These are also found on the palate along with crisp acidity, chalky minerality and great length. Barrel fermentation has provided subtle mealy characters and added weight. Mr Riggs Riesling 2011 The wonderfully delicate nose carries citrus and soft floral characters seamlessly to the palate. Here, the mouthfeel is abundantly vibrant and lifted, offering lemon and lime carefully balanced with bright, fresh, full-fruit sweetness. Cunning Fox Pinot Noir 2011 A lovely bouquet, showing dark cherry with a hint of vanilla and spice. The palate follows a theme of cherry, fresh strawberries, plum and a hint of cinnamon spice. Vigne del Vulture Aglianico Pipoli DOC 2009 Aromas of plum, liquorice, roasted nuts and wet stones are given a lift by bright, squashed cherry notes. The tannins are at first raspy before settling into a more pleasing chewy, candle wax character. Dried oregano, peppercorns and red earth on the finish.
