The forecast for 1970 is that production of vegetable preparations will be 10 per cent above the 1964 level.

Inventory of the instruments of support After the introduction of new economic measures in July 1965 the Government set guaranteed prices for potatoes, beans and onions. 1n order to encourage greater use of fertilizers in horticultural production the Government grants rebates on the purchase of domestic and imported fertilizer, equivalent on average to 30 per cent of the production price of the fertilizers. The Government intends to reduce the rebates on fertilizers in the coming period (for 1968 they have been reduced by approximately 5 per cent). 3.1.2. Trends in production and estimates for 1970 During the period until 1970 fruit production is expected to rise to 1.7 million metric tons, representing an increase by about 54 per cent as compared with 1964/65. In addition, by 1970 production of fruit preparations is expected to increase by 10 per cent over the 1964 level. A.3. Statistical data on carry-over stocks and stockpiles Certain stocks are held by the producers. A.4. Factors which affect production A good.deal has been done to improve the assortment in fruit production, particularly with respect to apples and peaches. In addition, in areas where weather and soil conditions are exceptionally favourable for arboriculture, new orchards have been planted to permit the use of modern technology. Allthis has helped to improve quality, not only from the aspect of types of fruit, but also from the aspect of uniform quality, etc. A.5. Policies and measures of government or other bodies likely to influence production, other than those listed under B With a view to improving quality, fruit production is subject to regulations on planting equipment, compulsory measures for disease prevention and pest control, and organization of professional and scientific services.

Inventory of the instruments of support Prices of fruit products- are freely formed by the inter-action of supply and demand. The Government has fixed guaranteed prices for prunes and is obliged to take up all quantities offered in the event that the market price falls below the guaranteed level. To encourage greater use of fertilizers in agriculture, more particularly in arboriculture, the Government grants rebates which on average are equivalent to approximately 30 per cent of the production price of the fertilizers. The Government intends to reduce the rebate on fertilizers in the coming period; for 1968 it has been reduced by approximately 5 per cent. The Government does not tale any measures to B.I.2. Levels of guaranteed prices or support prices limit fruit production. The guaranteed price for oven-clried prunes is US5200 per metric ton. B.I.3.
