As the foundation of one of Oregon s premier destination wine and culinary events, the Oregon Wine Competition challenges over 100 wineries to submit their finest wines for evaluation by our world-renowned judging panel. Entries open March 15 June 7. You are invited to submit up to five of your finest wines to the Oregon Wine Competition, held over the weekend of July 19,. Competition submissions in 2018 represented 13 Oregon AVA s and 45 different varietals with 350 individual wines. The Oregon Wine Competition and the Oregon Wine Experience events are fundraisers benefitting the Asante Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, and a designated Children's Miracle Network hospital. Last year, these events welcomed 4,600 attendees and raised over $1,300,000 for children s health. Page 2
To be eligible, all wines must be: Oregon Licensed TTB Approved/Licensed 100% Oregon Grown Grapes from a recognized Oregon AVA Not previously awarded by the Oregon Wine Competition Entry All participants must register at www.enofile.com (Choose Oregon Wine Competition, ID# 2535) Log in to your account or select "Register" to set up a new account. Delivery Requirements Please supply four (4) bottles of each wine entered in the competition along with a copy of your entry receipt. If entries are shipped in more than one box, indicate the sequence to ensure ensure all entries are received. How the Oregon Wine Competition Works Wines are scored on: quality, typicity, balance, and structure Six judges - chosen from Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, established wine writers and experienced judges - are separated into two panels of three, who judge the competition wines individually, single blind over two days. Wines are NOT scored comparitively. a. Flights are composed to encourage palate longevity for our judges. b. All bottles are securely covered from delivery to completion to insure impartiality. c. Information given to judges is limited to vintage and varietal composition. Maximum score is 20 points, and medals are awarded in the following point structure: a. Silver Medal: 16-17.5 points, from two of three judges in a panel. b. Gold Medal: 18-20 points, from two of three judges in a panel. c. Double Gold Medal: 18-20 points, from all three judges in a panel. Best of Show is awarded to three wines, one within each wine category (white, red, specialty - see http://www.theoregonwineexperience.com/wine-competition/ for details. a. All Double Gold wines become Best of Show candidates. These are grouped by category (white, red, specialty) and tasted single-blind by all six judges, who give a new score to the wine. b. Best of Show is awarded to the highest scoring wine in each category. c. If no Double Golds have been awarded in a category, Golds become Best of Show candidates. If no Golds are awarded, Silvers become Best of Show candidates. Page 4
What happens if your wines receive a medal? Wineries are required to donate one (1) case of each medal-awarded wine to be featured at the Oregon Wine Experience events. Your winery will benefit from significant exposure through Oregon Wine Competition participation, as your award-winning wine will be featured in multiple wine and culinary events presented by the Oregon Wine Experience with all proceeds benefiting Asante Foundation/Children's Miracle Network. The winery will receive two tickets to the Medal Celebration on Thursday, August 22,. Go to https://asantefoundation.ejoinme.org/owc to make your reservation between July 26th and August 15th,. Depending upon attendance demands, wineries may be asked to sell one (1) additional case of their medal awarded wine to Asante Foundation at their wholesale price, with the opportunity to purchase additional cases at wholesale. All Gold, Double Gold, and Best of Show medal winners are required to pour at our Grand Tasting on Sunday, August 25 from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Register for your table when you submit your wines to the competition for only $50. REMEMBER all proceeds will benefit Children's Miracle Network. All Gold or higher Medal winners are required to provide wine, but all participants are invited, even if you received no medal at all! If a winery is unable to pour the awarded wine(s) at the Grand Tasting event, the winery must supply one (1) case of each Gold Medal or higher awarded wine, which will be poured on the winery's behalf by Oregon Wine Experience representatives. Entry Substitution or Cancellation Wine competition entries may be substituted or cancelled between March 15 and June 7,. Following a cancellation confirmation with the winery, a refund of entry fees will be credited. If a shipment has been made prior to substitution or cancellation, the winery is responsible for return shipping charges. Page 5
Important Oregon Wine Competition Dates: Friday, June 7, deadline for competition submission. Each entry is $60 and there is a limit of 5 entries per winery. Please note that there is a limit of 350 total wine entries that will be accepted this year before the competition entry deadline. Friday, June 14 last day to accept deliveries, and RSVP to Judges Forum. All wines for the Oregon Wine Competition must be delivered by this day. See Delivery Requirements for more information. During this educational evening you will receive invaluable feedback from our world class judges, while enjoying all 350 competition wines and substantial appetizers. Thursday, August 15 RSVP deadline for Medal Celebration occurring on Thursday, August 22nd 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM, where awards are announced, medal-winning wines are sampled, and an exquisite food variety is served. Award winning wines will be featured at a variety of wine and culinary events throughout the week. Independence All wine entered to the competition will be subject to independent control and verification. No one with a direct winery affiliation will be involved in receiving, storing, or preparing the wines for the competition, nor be allowed in the judging room during the competition.
