As you know for the past few years we have been collecting donations for charity instead of sending Christmas cards within the Home. This year we will be collecting food and grocery donations to go to a Belper food bank called The Basic Idea Project run by Hope for Belper. Below is a list of items the project needs for each box. If you can add just one or two things to your normal shop and bring them in for the collection it could go a long way to helping a family this Christmas. Autumn 2018 Food Survey - Summary Report We recently sent out food surveys to the current Residents to get feedback on what menu items are currently liked or disliked as we try to make sure we cater for all, although as you can imagine it can be hard to carter for 36 individual tastes in one kitchen, but we do try! Fancy trying your hand at some handmade gifts this Christmas, why not try and make some of these lovely chocolate truffles as a brilliant Christmas stocking filler! The following is a summary of our findings from the questionnaires that were replied to. Christmas Chocolate Truffles Breakfast Most Residents are satisfied with the current breakfast menu and didn t request any additions, at least one person stated they were very impressed with the breakfast menu however it seems that scrambled eggs have fallen out of favour and Residents would like to see alternate egg dishes such as fried and boiled eggs for breakfast. Some Residents have given the view that they dislike the full English breakfast on roast days and some dislike the full English breakfast all together, there are always alternatives on offer however the cooked breakfasts on most days are not the traditional full English and are instead a smaller cooked breakfast for those that choose that option. Lunchtime On the whole Residents are satisfied with the variety on the Lunchtime menu with one person asking for more variety in drinks, these can be asked for (within reason) if they are not the standard drinks served with lunch. Homemade Christmas Ingredients 3 cups dark chocolate chips 1 can sweetened condensed milk 1 tablespoon vanilla extract Optional coatings such as chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder, espresso powder or cocoa nibs Directions In a microwave, carefully melt chocolate chips and milk; stir until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Refrigerate, covered, 2 hours or until firm enough to roll. Shape into 1-in. balls. Roll in coatings as desired. You can top these treats with what ever decorations take your fancy, why not try a white chocolate shell or make them boozy with a bit of rum...
The necessary work on the gas pipes in the grounds was successfully completed in October with a shorter period of time without gas than had been planned for only a few hours early evening rather than all day! Thankfully the weather was kind to us and not the cold that we have been currently experiencing so we managed to keep warm. Thank you to you all for your patience whilst parts of the gardens etc were dug up, especially those tenants in the Sheltered Housing units and thank you to the team of experts who completed the work. Gail Financial Director We are currently in talks with having a beauty therapist come into the home to provide services much in the same way as the two hairdressers we currently have. Would there be any Residents interested in this? or any Relations interested in joining your mother or father for joint pampering sessions? Treatments include, manicure with gel polish 25, pedicure with gel polish 30, various massages 25 (only if suitable) If you are, please do leave a message for Merrell the Deputy Manager in the Front Office so this can be arranged. We asked about the portion sizes of the Lunchtime meal, the majority of Residents are satisfied with the portion sizes and available courses. Anyone wishing for smaller portions or opting out of one of the courses can ask for this. Teatime The feedback from Teatime shows that a few Residents would like some more cheese options at teatime, such as cheese and pickle or a cheese platter. There also seems to be a trend for more hot options such as toasties or sausage rolls. Overall most of the Residents are satisfied with the menu options on offer, in fact the additional comment section shows many Residents praising the efforts of the kitchen with comments such as lots of variety, I couldn t find a better place, impressed with the food. The feedback about changes to the menu will be passed onto the Kitchen, and we will be actioning these in the next few weeks. Comments from individual Residents about their preferences such not liking certain ingredients are always noted on their Support Plans and passed to the Kitchen to make sure we try and cater to everyone s tastes. Thank you for taking the time to fill in these questionnaires and if you ever have any comments or suggestions about the food, we would love to hear from you.
