Vine growing in this part of Croatia has a long tradition dating back to the 13th century. Feravino s old wine cellar, built in 1804, is still in use today. Over the centuries, many people have come and settled in this fertile area of Croatia, but none have had the impact on wine production as those arriving at the beginning of the 20th century from Northern Dalmatia. Dalmatian settler s bought the vines with them. Many of these cultivars were red, adding to the white varieties already grown locally. Today, Feravino produces both red and white wines in equal quantities. Feravino is very proud of their state of the art wine cellars. 12 THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN OSIJEK Osijek showcases a different face of Croatia. It offers relaxed atmosphere away from tourist crowed2 with plenty to see and explore. The largest city in Slavonia, on the banks of the Drava river and the seat of the county of Osijek-Baranja region, Osijek is an administrative, industrial and cultural centre. Its rich history has left an abundance of cultural and artistic heritage. Asides from the cathedral in the centre and a Capuchin church, there is a the broad treelined boulevard famed through-out Europe for harbouring one of the best preserved of Art Nouveau houses in this corner of the continent. The oldest part is Tvrdja, a preserved Baroque centre, whose central square is dominated by Kužni s pillar. Here there is the Museum of Slavonia and the Archaeological Museum, galleries, churches, bars and restaurants. We recommend a walk in the Osijek gardens and promenade along the Drava. Try the local fish stew, spicy "kulen" sausage and smoked ham (and then there is the wine!) in one of Osijek's restaurants. The city is alive throughout the year, but summer is packed with events and festivals for all ages - Osijek Summer Nights, Advent, Osijek summer for the young, cultural summer.
