Parker, Jr. s The Wine Advocate, Issue 135 A new winery started only in 1998, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from 40- year old vines. It spent 18 months in both French and American oak of which 60% was new. Impressively made and California-like, with jammy black cherry and currant fruit, and coffee, chocolate, and toasty American oak in the background, this full-bodied, juicy, ripe Cabernet has low acidity, plenty of alcohol (15%), and a lusty, hedonistic finish. Drink it over the next 8-10 years.
1998 LANGHORNE CREEK CABERNET SAUVIGNON 1999 McLaren Vale Wine Show 2000 Cowra Wine Show Mark Squire's 2002 E-Zine on Wine. May / June, This wine is taking no prisoners at the moment, and is hard to peg as cabernet. Ignoring that, it shows pretty well. Sweet, jammy, blueberry fruit is in the mid-palate, and there is plenty of sweet, obvious oak up front. It has excellent depth, but is not unduly thick or clunky. What is surprising is that the wine actually shows some balance, and structure. Tannins pop out with air. This is something that I suspect will come into fine balance with cellaring. It is also something that is approachable now but may close down. I suspect another three years of cellaring (maybe five?) and this will actually improve the elegance and refinement but it will never lose that overt, tasty flavor. I hope. 90-92 points. http://www.marksquires.com/mayjune2002tn.htm 2010 MCLAREN VALE SHIRAZ 2012 McLaren Vale Wine Show 2014 Perth Royal Wine Show 2013 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2012 Cowra Wine Show 2012 Winewise Small Vigneron awards 2012 Boutique Wine Awards 2012 Australian Small Winemakers Show 2014 McLaren Vale Tasting ½ 2013 Winestate World s Greatest Shiraz Challenge 2013 Winestate McLaren Vale, Langhorne & Fleurieu 2012 Winestate World s Greatest Shiraz Challenge 2013 Winestate McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Fleurieu 90/100 2014 James Halliday s Australian Wine Companion 2009 MCLAREN VALE SHIRAZ 2011 Royal Hobart Wine Show 2012 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2011 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2011 Australian Small Winemakers Show 92/100 2013 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion Dense crimson-purple; a potent, intense, full-bodied wine, its bouquet and palate a classic McLaren Vale expression of shiraz with black fruits and dark chocolate characters to the fore, backed by vanilla oak and fine-grained tannins 2008 MCLAREN VALE SHIRAZ 2011 Cowra Wine Show 2011 Perth Royal Wine Show 2010 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2010 Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2011 Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2011 Cairns Show wine Awards Winestate World s Greatest Shiraz Challenge
One for the lovers of big, old-fashioned shiraz. Big, round and long and tastes of blackcurrants, pepper and vanilla, well supported by a firm spine of tannins. 95/100 2013 James Halliday s Australian Wine Companion Deep red. Slightly less bright than the McLaren Vale Shiraz; a 75/10/10 regional blend that works very well, although the Adelaide Hills drives the wine with its spicy, lively, almost urgent thrust of black cherry/berry fruit, and the fine tannins that underpin the long palate and finish. Especially pleasing to see the flagship screwcapped, the standard wine corkfinished. So often it s the other way around. ½ 2012 Winestate World s Greatest Shiraz Challenge 2008 THE WARRIOR SHIRAZ Blue Gold Top 100 2012 Sydney International Wine Show 2011 Germany Premium Select Wine Challenge 2011 New Zealand International Wine Show 2012 Selections Mondiales Des Vins Canada Smooth and creamy, irresistible from the outset, a harmonious mouthful of chocolate, cherries, mocha, liquorice, pepper and chicory with a tantalizing flourish of mint 2010 Japan Wine Challenge 2012 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2011 International Wine Challenge 2011 Wine Style Asia Awards 2010 Rutherglen Wine Show 2011 Decanter World Wine Awards 2011 Royal Queensland Wine Show 2010 Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2011 Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2010 Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2010 Royal Hobart International Wine Show 2011 Macquarie Group Royal Sydney Wine Show 2011 Visy Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2011 Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2010 Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2011 Australian Small Winemakers Show 2010 Australian Small Winemakers Show 2011 Cairns Show wine Awards 2011 Cowra Wine Show 2011 Winestate World s Greatest Shiraz Challenge 95/100 2012 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion A 70/30 Adelaide Hills/Langhorne Creek blend in a very expensive, massive screen-printed bottle. Happily, the wine is very good, with black and red cherry and spice ex the Adelaide Hills component anchored by the darker berry fruit of the Langhorne Creek contribution; 21 months in French oak completes the picture. 2006 THE WARRIOR SHIRAZ 2010 Syrah du Monde - France 2010 Selections Mondiales des Vins Canada 2009 Rutherglen Wine Show 2009 Japan International Wine Challenge 2009 New Zealand International Wine Challenge 2010 Sydney Royal Wine Show 2010 VISY Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2010 Boutique Wine Awards
