The Elliston Echo June 2017 ELLISTON COMMUNITY & VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE NEWS 23rd SALMON COMPETITION 2017 The Australian Salmon Fishing Championship is held annually on the West Coast of the Eyre Peninsula during the months of June, July and August. The competition is in its 23rd year and has proven to be a huge success with many fishermen (and women!) coming back to our area each year. We have fantastic surf fishing in Elliston and the Salmon Fishing Championship is a perfect time to visit and enjoy some excellent fishing while trying your luck at catching the big one. It is good fun for all levels (provided you fish responsibly) and the breathtaking scenery offers great photo opportunities for our winter photo competition. For those who like to take photos you have the chance to win $50 each month for the best photo taken during the month! To enter the competition send your photo into the Elliston Community & Visitor Information Centre via info@elliston.com.au (winner notified monthly). Raffle tickets are also available to purchase from local Elliston businesses throughout this event with a great list of prizes! Tickets cost $2 each and will be drawn on 1st September. On a bright sunny Friday morning, over 100 people congregated at the town centre to participate in a Town Walk to support research into the debilitating disease called Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The walk began three years ago after local historian Audine Tree was diagnosed. It is held every May, with the local school children walking with community members. This year the walk also supported The Pines Hostel, which is a crucial component of our town. We raised $604 which will be donated to the two worthy organisations. Morning tea was held in the grounds of the RSL Memorial Children s Centre. It was a good opportunity to all to remember anyone who is and has been affected by MND, Parkinson s and dementia. Next year the walk will be held on Friday May 11 th.
