July 1st, 2016 Senn Fresh News Up to date information on your favorite Items Market Alerts: Blueberries: Growing seasons in FL and GA have ended, but there is still steady production from NC. Quality and for the time availability both remain good. Local Produce! We currently have local Watermelons, Tomatoes, Squash, Cucumbers, and Corn! Overview: Avocados are still in short supply with very high prices. Garlic continues to have high prices, but there is hope on the rise as the 2016 CA late variety harvest looks promising. Less than ideal weather conditions have affected the markets for Green Beans, Green Peppers, and Lettuce products. Berries, along with tomatoes, remain strong and plentiful. Green Beans: The shortage caused by the GA season closing has worsened due to wet weather in NC, VA, and TN. However, growers in VA and TN predict normal supplies by early July. An extreme market will stay in place until then. Strawberries: The humidity and coolness of recent weather has led to a smaller size berry and a slower production rate. Yield is expected to pick up and reach record levels during July. Romaine Lettuce & Hearts: Lettuce has steady supplies and demand, with only slight quality issues. Hearts however have an extreme shortage along with an average quality. Hearts are seeing rising prices. Green Peppers: Declining production for the late season in GA is being caused by quality issues. Until the new crops in NC, NJ, and MI are in full swing this shortage will continue.
