Volume 13 Issue 8 Yarbrough s FIRST Lego League team, the RoboLobos, competed in their first ever tournament on Saturday, March 24. The tournament was held in Liberal at the Mid-America Air Museum where twenty other teams competed against each other in four areas: robot game, robot design, research project, and in knowledge of the core values of Lego FIRST. The team was very excited to receive the runner s up award for their research project. Ten students from grades 5th-8th were selected to be on the team: Alexcia Knelssen, Alexsandra Avitia, Martha Loewen, Taylor McFarlen, Mariah Beasley, Noela Loewen, Stetson Nave, Tayson Zimmerman, Guinevere Gherna, and Akielah Collins. The RoboLobos program is new at Yarbrough this year thanks to the grant from America s Farmers Grow Rural Education provided by the Monsanto Fund that Yarbrough received at the beginning of the school year. The team has also been able to practice and work in the makerspace created by the grant. More photos and videos of the team s day of competition can be viewed at the Facebook pages for the school and at the Mid-America Air Museum. The team is currently preparing for an exhibition scrimmage for the rest of the school to enjoy watching during the last week of school. Watch the school calendar for an exciting chance to see the robot game.
