February - March 2013 Page 3 President s Perspective Randy Warwick For the 85 who made the drive to Rio Vista, we heard a fine concert from ATOS National President Ken Double on Geoff Hansen's top-notch Wurlitzer at Hunter Hall. Ken played an excellent concert, registering a wide variety, and sampling much of the palette of color on the 3/15 Wurlitzer. Ken gave a brief update on recent happenings at National. Thanks to Ken for the wonderful playing and Geoff for the use of his very fine Wurlitzer. If you have not been to Hunter Hall, you are missing an opportunity to hear a really good sounding Wurlitzer in a first-class setting. Dave Moreno did his very entertaining organist as comedian performance for the Fair Oaks Park District Silent Movie Night on January 23. He was so engaging that many nonorgan people in attendance had a great time. With really funny silent films. We are very near to a new agreement with the Fair Oaks Park District for our use of the Community Clubhouse. I am sure it is no surprise that all public agencies, even one as seemingly low cost to operate as a small parks district, experience great pressure to avoid dipping into county funds for meeting operation costs. Given this reality, we feel we are reaching an agreement that is affordable for us and has the District acknowledging the unique value of the Wurlitzer as an asset to their Clubhouse. Part of our involvement with the District as a Community Partner is to participate in various activities centered at the Clubhouse and its surrounding park. We will notify members through The Spiel of upcoming participation events and hope many of our members will consider pitching in. Several of us have helped out at It s My Park Day the last couple years, and it is really quite fun with a nice Bar B Que lunch to all who help for four hours. Hope to see many of you at Ironstone to hear the incredible Walt Strony. Oroville State Theatre Event The Oroville State Theatre is turning 85 on April 7 & to celebrate, STAGE is sponsoring a live musical accompanied by a Theatre Organ; "The Drowsy Chaperone." This is a very funny comedy with a musical in it. Three shows, April 5 & 6 at 7:30 pm, and April 7 at 2:00 pm with a Birthday party after the Sunday Show. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door. "Will Call" tickets can be arranged by calling 530-538-2406. While the Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ is not yet installed, an electronic Theatre Organ has been made available for the event. Any profits will go to improvements at the Theatre. Contact David Dewey at the above number for more information.
