This year, Washington Elementary School District s meal offerings have gotten even healthier! We have made changes to meet strict new federal nutrition standards, including: Portion sizes may have changed in order to meet new requirements on maximums and minimums for grain servings, proteins, and calories. Students will be required to have a 1/2 cup serving of a fruit and/or vegetable on their tray. The cafeteria will offer several preportioned and self serve choices for the students to choose from. For the last several years we have used whole wheat buns and sandwich breads, but are now offering more whole grains! This year many of the breadings, pastas, tortillas and pizza crusts will be whole grain. Lunch Menu Students are offered kid-friendly favorites everyday. Our entrées have been carefully chosen to be lower in fat and sodium, and higher in fiber. Pizza Our pizzas are made with whole grain crusts and part-skim cheese to be lower in fat and higher in fiber!
