TOKYO WHISKY & SPIRITS COMPETITION About the competiton With refined palate, profound knowledge and devotion of Japanese industry experts, the goal of this TOKYO WHISKY & SPIRITS COMPETITION is to select, award and promote the world s finest whisky and spirits of all. TOKYO WHISKY & SPIRITS COMPETITION is the very first worldwide whisky and spirits competition to be held in Japan on 11th-12th March 2019. Recently, these liquors are attracting more attention than ever. Especially from 2016 to 2017, nearly 20 distilleries have appeared across the country and it is said to be the "Dawn of the Japanese craft distilleries." This phenomenon is not unique to Japan as the trend of craft distilleries started from Scotland and is now expanding not only to Ireland, Europe, America, Canada, but also to Taiwan, India and other Asian countries as well. In Japan you can taste all the various whisky and spirits imported from around the world. We also make our own high-quality Japanese whisky and spirits which have won numerous awards in the competitions held in Britain or the United States. "Japanese whisky" and "Japanese spirits" is now recognized as one significant category. 12 th March 2019 / TWSC Day-2 Last of April 2019 / Announcement of results Last of May 2019 / The award ceremony The judging process The judgement will be held for two days and approximately 180 tasting panels will evaluate all the items. Items will be placed in its product categories and be blind tasted 6 to 8 items at each. Judges The judges consist of experts who are involved in the whisky and spirits industry in Japan including bar owners, bartenders, makers, retailers, importers and journalists. Flow of each session 6 judges will seat together at each table. The judges will blind taste 6 to 8 items in 40 minutes and write down their scores on the judgment paper. Each table will discuss and calculate the scores in 20 minutes and prepare for the next round. In one session the above flow is repeated for 4 rounds which means each judge will evaluate up to 32 items in total. Scoring method 30 points of aroma, 40 points of flavor, 30 points of finish, totaling 100 points. Out of the 6 judges scores, the highest score is rounded off to the second highest and also the lowest score is raised to the second lowest. Then the scores of all 6 judges are summed and the average score is figured out. Judging schedule Each table will evaluate 6 to 8 items within 1 hour (1 round). In each session, every table will run 4 rounds, totaling 32 items maximum. The role of chairman A chairman is appointed for each table. The chairman will collaborate with the organizing staff as the facilitator to make sure the tasting flow progresses smoothly. * Chairman also joins the judgment 4
How to entry Please download the entry sheet from the official website, complete all the forms and submit it by e-mail. After submitting the sheet, with the payment and submission of the items, the entry procedure will be completed. 1. Please send the completed entry sheet by e-mail. (twsc@scotchclub.org) Entry period: From 1st October 2018 to 21st January 2019 4. We check the entry sheet. 5. We send you an invoice via e-mail within 5 business days. 6. Please make the payment of the entry fee within two weeks. Bank trasnfer fee and the shipping cost is not included in the amount below. Please burden this at your expense. ENTRY FEE 1 to 5 entries : 25,000 + 8% tax for one item 182/US$234 6 to 10 entries : 23,750 + 8% tax for one item 173/US$228 More than 11 entries : 22,500 + 8% tax for one item 163/US$216 (UK pound and US dollars are based on the exchange rate of 21 st September 2018) 7. Please send all the entry items. If these are not paid, we can either not accept the entries or will have to invoice any costs occurred. 5
Notice Once the entry procedure is completed, you cannot cancel the entry. Also the entry fees are not refundable. In principle, if the competition is cancelled due to natural disaster we cannot refund the entry fees nor return the entry items. If the same item is submitted by more than one applicant, the entry fee cannot be refunded. In that case, the results are announced to all applicants. If the entry category is unknown or the applied category considered different than the actual product, the organizer will select or reselect the category. For the picture of the awarded item, the photo taken by the organizer will be used. We take no responsibility if the entry items are damaged during the delivery. In that case we will ask you to resend the items.
