Welcome back message from... President Wallace Crowston This message will likely arrive in your e-mail or in your mail box as you are busy preparing for the trip south to Phoenix. You can be sure that the members of the Club Executive Committee, some new, some continuing from last year, have also been busy this summer preparing an interesting series of events for our members in the 2012/13 winter season. These will include our traditional picnic in November and a Christmas dinner/dance in December. Thanks to Clark Sanchez, our incoming vicepresident, who has planned and organized these events. You can read about them in detail on our new website, <CanClub.ca> and sign-up for them with an application and cheque to Shirley Cordero, our new Reservations person. As you may know, our old website was lost when the company hosting the Sun City West sites closed. Lynda Millard has created this new site and also taken responsibility for Publicity. Doug Lockhart who joined the Executive last year, will continue to create, edit and distribute the Newsletters and serve as our go to person for computer related matters. In addition we will be joined by Betty Hamilton ( Treasurer ), Lana Sundquist (Coffee Mornings ), Charlotte Sanchez (Sunshine Person ) and Taka Crowston ( Club Administrator, Secretary ). You will see from the number of new members on the Executive, our plea last year for more volunteers to assist in the operations of the Club was successful. However, we still need some assistance from you, our members. Specifically I am asking each of you to play a small role in assisting at one of the events. This could be taking tickets, arranging tables or other roles you would find of interest. You will be helping the Club to continue our programs and meeting some very friendly people. Get in touch with any member of the Executive if you are interested and available. Hopefully some of you will also be interested in joining us on the Executive next year. We would also ask for your assistance in recruiting new members. If you have friends who winter in the Phoenix area, please speak to them about the Club and invite them to join us at one of our events. On the Executive Committee's part, we will be advertising our programs in many of the neighbouring communities that are currently not well represented in the membership. If you have specific suggestions as to how we might approach this, we would like to hear from you. 2 In closing, let me give special thanks on behalf of all of the members to John Hepton who served as our President for two years and to three volunteers who left the executive this year; Diane Smith after serving as vice-president, president, publicity and website, Judith Fimrite for her work on Reservations and Teala Willett who organized last year's events program. See you at the picnic, Wally Crowston, President 2012/13 HOCKEY 2013 - or not! We're still unsure of the 2013 Hockey Season but as we go to press with this Newsletter, the NHL has resumed negotiations so we're all hopeful that there will be hockey this winter. As of September 28th, the Phoenix Coyotes have confirmed that pre -season tickets will not be sold. Tickets for regular season games are being sold now. Should the season start late, you will be able to transfer tickets to another game, or obtain a full refund if the season is indeed cancelled. This year we are offering tickets "in advance". Book the tickets you want when you renew or join. The form to reserve tickets is available on our website canclub.ca. Please note that the first available game will be on November 21st. You must be a member of the Canadian Club to order tickets through us at our discounted rate (save $16-25/ticket) contingent on our ordering a minimum of 10 tickets per game. Tickets will be either emailed to you or sent via USPS, directly from the Phoenix Coyotes. Payment will only be accepted via a US $ Money Order or a cheque written on a US bank account in US funds. The first game we offer tickets for is November 21st, Edmonton at Phoenix (depending on outcome of the NHL lock-out). Order form and details available on our website. Please contact me at scg.snowbird@gmail.com should you require more information. Lynda Millard Morning Coffee The morning coffee meeting will be held at the Crooked Putter Restaurant, Grandview golf course on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 9:00 a.m. Come join us in an informal setting to meet and chat in a small group. Breakfast and coffee are available for purchase. Look for the Canadian flag on the table. Address: 14260 W. Meeker Blvd. Sun City West, AZ 85375 Lana Sundquist, Coffee Morning Coordinator
