schloss reinhartshausen leitmotiv schloss reinhartshausen classification Origin determines The more site-specific the origin of a wine, the higher its quality. The origin determines all wine growing and cellar related decisions. The care of the vines and their complete environment has the utmost priority. Healthy, ripe grapes create the best wine which is the best ambassador of its origin. The Schloss Reinhartshausen vineyards are maintained and self-managed with a great deal of lifeblood, expertise and, not least, plenty of work carried out by hand. Each wine growing decision is based not on simplification but, instead, on improvement and the ecological context. After careful, select hand picking and gentle pressing, the quality from the vineyard is preserved and developed further in the cellar. This is only possible through the considerably reduced use of cellar technology as well as patience and precision. This may sound easy but is, in fact, a challenge: The very best quality through controlled idleness! schloss reinhartshausen island wines schloss reinhartshausen island wines Being a natural reserve strict regulations are enforced for the unique wildlife on the island. Mariannenaue Island The powerful river Rhine created Mariannenaue island 10,000 years ago on a bed of chalk out of sand and pebbles which had been swept down from the Alps. Wine has been grown on an area of 24 hectares already since the 1960s. Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Red Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc have the best conditions here for early ripening year after year. Besides the Alten Inselsatz and the Sauvignon Blanc made from a single grape variety, the island wine range also includes a cuvée of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. The finest is the luscious Chardonnay Thanks Bob! Soon, the range will also include a refined red Riesling. The idea of planting the first Chardonnay in Germany on Mariannenaue island came from none other than legendary Californian wine grower, Robert Mondavi. During a visit to the island, he advised Prince Nikolaus Friedrich of Prussia to experiment with Chardonnay on the island. The results were so impressive that the prince thanked Robert Mondavi with a letter in which he wrote Thanks Bob!. Today, the old and thick vines which were planted back then produce a very special drop which represents what is special about the island and which is dedicated to the person this visionary idea stemmed from: Thanks Bob! However, the above average humidity here should be considered in the cultivation of the wines in order to prevent disease and attacks by insects. Furthermore, a dry summer does not result in the expected effect on quality and harvest volume due to the considerable ground water found here. In this way the island characterises its wines and you can almost taste their nature: they promise lightness, finesse and elegance. They are young, refreshing and original and playfully offer a tantalising enjoyment. On the island s river shore natural vegetal cover flourish wild hops. An own craft beer is brewed herewith since 2013.

Hattenheimer Wisselbrunnen This site was mentioned already in 1270 when a sealed purchase contract was referred to whereby a former owner of Schloss Reinhartshausen purchased the vineyard from St. Peters Stift in Mainz. The soil combines a high loess content with fine marl structure. The Taunus quartzite which penetrates to the surface here gives this Riesling a pronounced mineral character. The special microclimate intensive sunlight and exceptional aeration also defines the large fruit used for the wines from the Siegelsberg. Matured in old, wooden barrels, the wines of this top class site exhibit their deep, serious potential in a truly brilliant way. This site which is only 18 hectares has a primarily lighter tertiary marl soil. Deep loess also runs through the Wisselbrunnen which guarantees an excellent water supply. The wines captivate with their delicate, fruity finesse combined with a wonderfully full flavoured note. The pronounced mineral character of the Wisselbrunnen is strongly emphasised by origin and gives the wine its high recognition value. Erbacher Hohenrain This site on a southern slope lies above the centre of Erbach and has a high, ancient wall along its western side. Thanks to the sunlight here which extends right into the evening hours, the site has a warm and wind protected microclimate. The castle s oldest vines grow here, on deep loess soil with tertiary marl layers running through it.
