It was an outdoor success through Thanksgiving, but that was the problem. Her vendors did not want to stop selling the day before the busiest shopping day of the year. Her vendors put pressure on her to open something inside. So, Eclection Handmade and Vintage was born in the Zoom Apparel building in downtown Kernersville. Now, Eclection is far from your normal flea market or swap shop. They host many different vendors with their own personal style. In fact, each vendor is responsible for making their own signs to show off their individual flair. Eclection has anywhere from 50 to 60 vendors at any given time and their wares have to be either from the Triad, handmade, or vintage. They even have a pop-up shop that changes themes every two to three weeks. Eclection also offers many different classes from painting to jewelry making. That way you can learn how to make your own personal art! My favorite part of Eclection is the Breathe Wine Bar and Lounge, located inside of the building. Breathe offers wine, of course, but also local beer, cheese, cheesecakes and more. They also have live music every Saturday and half-off wine on Fridays. Where else can you go and shop local vendors with a glass in your hand and sign up for a painting class at the same time? Eclection Handmade and Vintage is where and they are bringing vibrancy to downtown Kernersville. Detailed event information available at www.336events.com 6

Featured Local Artist Ian Bredice by Jim Tedder IAN BREDICE graduated from Albion College in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art. Shortly thereafter he relocated from Michigan to Winston-Salem where he is now a member of the SEED Collective, an exhibiting group of local visual artists. Presented by 411 W. 4th St. Winston-Salem www.communityartscafe.com While in college he studied sculpture, printmaking, photography, and Art History, with sculpture being his primary interest. However, the costs associated with the craft of sculpting made him reconsider his artistic direction and he turned his focus to painting. In 2007 Ian began painting lowbrow art that was focused primarily around robots, sideshow acts, and rockabilly culture. This cartoon styled artwork with vibrant, vivacious colors was influenced by his interest in pop art and the Atomic-age 1950s, and often referred to as Atomic Themed art. Ian s works have been exhibited in many different galleries all over North Carolina, and Michigan. Currently, he in part of a group exhibition with SEED Collective at the Liberty Arts Community Center. He also paints signs for Trader Joe s grocery store at the Thruway Shopping Center in Winston Salem. The works of Ian Bredice will be on display at EARSHOT RECORDS in Winston Salem for the month March and can also be found online at: www.etsy.com/shop/lostoctober82 Detailed event information available at www.336events.com 17

Networking 110: - Becoming Trusted and Respected by Teddy Burriss - Networking Strategist Being trusted and respected is important to create real success in life, including business, career and community. Let me tell you why I believe this. I have proven time and again that when the people in your life trust and respect you, they are far more open and forthcoming with information. You can use this information to help them as well as to help yourself, as long as you don t misuse it. Here is a story that proves this is true: When Betty and I first met at a networking event I asked her lots of questions about herself and the work she does. I listened to what she shared with me and continued asking her questions. In less than ten minutes I knew a lot more about Betty than she likely intended to share. She asked me questions as well and I shared stories about myself with her. We never really talked business. Eventually we agreed to meet later to continue our conversation and to talk business. After exchanging contact information we went our separate ways. Within a week we meet at a local coffee shop. Our conversations picked back up where we left off, about family, friends, our communities and a little business. We were very comfortable with our conversations and it was apparent that trust and respect was building. about her other issues. Because we had first spent enough time building trust and respect, when we met the third time Betty agreed that I would help her with the projects that my business focuses on. We did not discuss pricing, Betty simply agreed to my rate. Betty did not ask for a proposal, I sent her an agreement that she signed and returned with no questions. She did not ask for references, she took my word at face value. Why - because I invested in Betty up front. I focused on building trust and respect and I did not pounce on her to sell my stuff. Try building trust and respect when you are networking. This educational series is brought to us by Teddy Burriss, a world renowned Social Networking Coach. Teddy teaches Networking for Mutual Benefit and Building Relationships through Social Media. Teddy is an accomplished author, public speaker, avid social media engager and blogger. You can find Teddy s Books on Amazon.com and through his blog, www.burrissconsulting.com/blog. If you want to learn more about Success using Social Media, and how it can help you business, contact Teddy; 336-283-6121 / TLBurriss@teddyburriss.com I knew it was important to move into more conversations about business. Remember article #109 - Network Deliberately with Focus, otherwise we will never achieve our goals. I guided Betty into more focused business conversations. The level of trust and respect that Betty had for me is a key factor in the smooth transition from personal to business topics.
