Sunbeam s Safety Precautions SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR THE SNACK HEROES BROWNIE MAKER. This appliance is not a toy. Operate the brownie maker on a flat surface. Do not leave your brownie maker unattended. Do not place any part of this appliance in a dishwasher. Do not immerse the brownie maker, including the power cord in water or any other liquids. Do not touch brownie cutter insert side handles when the appliance is working. This appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote control system. The temperature of surfaces may be high when the appliance is operating. Sunbeam is very safety conscious when designing and manufacturing consumer products, but it is essential that the product user also exercise care when using an electrical appliance. Listed below are precautions which are essential for the safe use of an electrical appliance: Read carefully and save all the instructions provided with an appliance. Always turn the power off at the power outlet before you insert or remove a plug. Remove by grasping the plug - do not pull on the cord. Turn the power off and remove the plug when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning. Do not use your appliance with an extension cord unless this cord has been checked and tested by a qualified technician or service person. Always use your appliance from a power outlet of the voltage (A.C. only) marked on the appliance. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. The temperature of accessible surfaces may be high when the appliance is operating. Never leave an appliance unattended while in use. Do not use an appliance for any purpose other than its intended use. Do not place an appliance on or near a hot gas flame, electric element or on a heated oven. Do not place on top of any other appliance. Do not let the power cord of an appliance hang over the edge of a table or bench top or touch any hot surface. Do not operate any electrical appliance with a damaged cord or after the appliance has been damaged in any manner. If damage is suspected, return the appliance to the nearest Sunbeam Appointed Service Centre for examination, repair or adjustment. For additional protection, Sunbeam recommend the use of a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA in the electrical circuit supplying power to your appliances. Power / Ready indicators Indicates that the brownie maker is on and when correct cooking temperature has been reached. Cord storage Neatly wraps the cord for safe and convenient storage. 3

Using your Snack Heroes Brownie Maker Ensure the brownie maker is switched off at the power outlet and the power cord is unplugged. 1. Using the lid handle, lift the top lid to the open position. 2. Remove the brownie cutter insert by grasping both handles and place to one side. Using the lid handle close the lid. Figure 1 3. Insert the 3 pin plug into a 230/240 volt power outlet and turn the power on ensuring the cord is fully unwrapped from the base of the brownie maker. 4. Allow the brownie maker to pre-heat until the green READY light turns on. This indicates that the cooking plates have reached the correct temperature for cooking. 5. Lightly spray the cooking plates and brownie cutter insert with a cooking oil spray before use. 6. Pour 1 cup of batter onto the preheated cooking plate. 7. Gently lower the brownie cutter insert onto the bottom cooking plate. Make sure the handles fit into the notches in the body of the Brownie Maker (See figure 2). Figure 2 Important: Lower the lid to make sure the brownie cutter insert is inserted correctly and that the lid closes completely. If there is not enough batter, DO NOT attempt to bake a short batch. A smaller amount may cause the baking times to change and may produce inconsistent and unsatisfactory results. Note: Results may vary by recipe; batters with more sugar will brown quicker. 8. Gently close the lid and allow to cook for approximately 8 minutes. Note: As brownies bake, steam may be emitted from the appliance which is normal. 9. At the end of baking time, use the handle to lift the top lid. Warning: DO NOT GRASP THE BROWNIE CUTTER INSERT SIDE HANDLES. USE THE LID HANDLE. 10. With the lid open, allow brownies to cool for an additional 5 minutes. 11. Wearing oven gloves, grasp both brownie cutter insert side handles, then lift slowly and carefully out of the lower cooking plate. Place to one side. 12. To remove the brownies always use a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use a sharp object or metal, as this will damage the non-stick surface of the cooking plates. 4

Brownie Making Tips When making brownies spread mixture out evenly over the base of the brownie maker. A rubber spatula works best. Use the cutter once the cooking has completed. This will make it easier to remove the brownie from the pan. Do not open the brownie maker during cooking. Lightly grease the base of the brownie maker Don t over mix brownies as this will result in a tough texture. Use good quality dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Blondies usually do not have melted chocolate in the mixture. This is why they usually have a more cake like texture. Fudgy brownies have minimal flour and little to no rising agent. Melting butter rather than creaming creates a denser fudgier outcome. Cake like brownies usually have more flour and rising agent. Chewy brownies usually have several eggs. A large amount of melted chocolate in the batter usually means the texture will be stiffer. Brownies are cooked when they begin to shrink away from the edges of the pan. The centre should still be slightly gooey but this will firm up during cooling. Freeze excess brownies in an airtight container. You can do so much more than just baking brownies. You can also use quick mixes and cookie dough in your brownie maker, just follow the steps outlined on page 4. The Snack Heroes Brownie Maker can be used as a hot plate and a sandwich press. Here are some suggestions of what to cook using the brownie maker: eggs pikelets pancakes 5

Care and Cleaning To clean your brownie maker ensure that the power has been switched off and the plug removed from the power outlet. Allow the product to cool down before cleaning. Wipe the outside of your brownie maker with a slightly dampened cloth and wipe dry. The cooking plates in the brownie maker are coated with a non-stick cooking surface, therefore little cleaning is required. Simply wipe cooking plates over with a damp cloth. WARNING: Do not immerse the brownie maker in water or any other liquid or use abrasive scouring pads, powders or cleaners. Before next use; lightly grease the cooking plates and brownie cutter insert for easy removal of brownies. 6
