Street Bridge is F e b r u a r y 2019 After much preparation and a lot of planning the Clinton Street Bridge will close on February 11, 2019. The plan is for the bridge to be closed for about 270 days. During this closure Defiance County Senior Services remains committed to serving you with our meal and transportation services. Meals Served 95,434 Our home delivered meal routes were adjusted in January. Please bear with us as you may have to adjust to a new delivery time. Including 12,866 frozen meals and 1,886 hospital meals Rides provided 10,999 Including 426 out of town medical trips Music & Memory Our transportation services will also continue. Please call ASAP when an appointment is made to allow us to adjust our schedule to accommodate increased time needed to make sure you arrive at your appointments on time. A look back at 2018 Statistics you may find interesting Loaned 6 IPods and spent 34 hours loading them and 8 hours training caregivers to use them. There is no age limit and it is FREE Representatives of Northwest Ohio Senior Services, a non profit corporation, will be on hand to assist with filing most Federal, State and School District tax returns. Appointments are required and can be made on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from February 1, through April 12th. Please contact Harriet @ 419-782-3233 to set your appointment. Hello, my name is Harriet and I am the new transportation coordinator for the Defiance Senior Center. I was previously a transportation driver for both the Hicksville and Defiance centers, and that experience has proved invaluable in settling in to my new position. It also gave me the opportunity to meet many of you, and Welcome Harriet Keith!! I look forward to meeting even more! I am originally from Hicksville, and have also lived in Wisconsin, Colorado, and Tennessee. I have lived in Defiance for the last two and a half years. I want to assure you that our transportation services will continue to be available during the Clinton Street bridge project. Unknown Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia is not a road to travel alone. Please join our caregiver s support group meeting on Thursday February 7th at 1:30. Our 3 support group leaders, Pat Wagner, Karen Haaser and Sandy Herman along with others who are traveling the same road as you are would love to offer you their support. Please consider stocking up on some of our frozen meals for days when we may not be able to deliver to you or for use on the weekends. You may ask your driver or contact Ginny @ 419-782-3321 Each participant may determine what they can comfortably contribute toward the cost of a meal. No senior adult will be denied a nutrition service due to inability to contribute. Roses are Red Violets are Blue Our Center is Blessed Because of YOU! Our suggested donation for a lunch is $3.00 per meal. Evening Meals and events may be more. Commodity Supplemental Food Program CSFP This commodity program provides financially eligible seniors with about 40# of food including fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins and dairy. The applications are available from Sue at the Defiance Center or by calling 419-782-3233. The next distribution date is: Wednesday February 27th 1:00 pm 2:30pm Please remember if you do not pick up your commodities 3 months in row, Toledo will remove you from our list and you must reapply. Looking for a place to volunteer-we could use your help!! There is lifting involved. From the Desk of Sheri We care about your nutritional needs. Our home delivered meal route drivers are tasked with bringing you a hot, ready to eat meal 5 days per week. Our rules require that you be home and available to accept your meal at delivery time. We respectfully request you to be up, dressed and ready to accept your meal at time of delivery. Our drivers must see you to know that you are alright when they hand the meal to you. We have a limited time to deliver, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. We have 6 drivers delivering approximately 55 meals each in that 3 hours time span. Please help us to get all of our meals delivered on time be being ready to accept your meal. Please bear with us as we make changes to our route to accommodate the bridge closure. Thank you!
