ewellness magazine Surprise yourself at the Benefits of Organic Frozen Foods! 2018-03-20 Frozen foods can be a surprisingly healthy option to keep you on track with your fitness and well-being goals. When we think of Organic frozen foods, our mind conjures up all sorts of frozen fancies such as ice pops, ice cream, burgers and such like. Yet it is a misconception on many levels that frozen foods are bad for us. They can actually be very healthy, particularly in comparison to many take away meals that may tempt us when we are tired and short on time. There are many time-saving and convenience Eat well victories that come with having something good to go that needs very little prep-work in your freezer. Frozen foods maintain their taste and freshness- depending on the food type if you over-cook then packing it in the freezer according to food safety recommendations means those leftovers can still taste great and hold their nutritional value too. Here we look at a few more upsides to frozen foods that may surprise you! 1. Less preservatives Frozen foods often contain lower or negligible amounts of preservatives because the freezing process, in essence, protects the nature and freshness of the food. Check the ingredient list and

compare the difference in additives and preservatives from chilled to frozen foods chilled foods will have a much shorter shelf life also. We often head straight for the chilled aisle when we shop but sometimes it pays to browse around the frozen one too. Look out for vegetables and fruit in particular; these tend to lose their taste and freshness very quickly due to many factors including the length of time they are in transit until they actually arrive at the store. Many frozen fruits and vegetables are packed and frozen within a few hours of being picked- for this reason they maintain their nutritional value, flavor and freshness (once thawed!). 2. Less food waste We ve all done it prepped and cooked too much food, or we just over-estimated what we needed and we end up with chilled food and over-ripe fruit heading toward the waste bin. In fact, around 7 out of 10 households throw away up to 20 items of chilled products each month. It makes sense to freeze food so that we limit food waste. Buying more frozen foods may also mean you don t need to shop as often, and it is less expensive than what you would find in the fresh/chilled aisles- so it s kinder to your purse/wallet also. 3. Frozen is good- anytime! We all enjoy our seasonal fruits and vegetables, when strawberry (or our favorite fruit) season abounds we look forward to making the most of them! At a time when farmers and markets are pressed to cater and supply for a constant stream of demand and to have many out of season fruits and veg ready to buy frozen becomes our best buddy for taste, value, and nutrition. When fruit and veg are frozen they are done so when ripening is most natural and not forced onto the production line like much of what we see in our fresh/chilled sections.

4. The convenience of frozen foods For many people, cooking every meal simply isn t an option. In our busy modern lifestyle, we sometimes just run out of time. Having a few staples in your freezer that fit your diet and speed up the process of getting a meal on your dinner table is essential. Having something in the freezer helps us to plan ahead a little or perhaps prep meals for the week ahead with greater ease. There is a large increase in people who are eating an elimination diet such as gluten-free. People are carefully watching what goes into their body, where food comes from, and how it s prepared. Global sales of gluten-free food jumped 12.6 percent year on year in 2016. The market for organic foods continues to rise and the increase of people on the Paleo diet is staggering. In the past, finding great tasting, healthy, and quick meals wasn t easy. You had to compromise on something. Beetnik's was made to tackle this problem. It may be spring right now but winter is never that far away. And with that comes the promise of delicious food that fills the belly and warms the heart. Often times the types of foods that people tend to gravitate towards in the colder months are higher in fat and overall calorie count. But it doesn t have to be that way. There are great warm weather foods that are better for you. When Chef David Perkins of Beetnik Foods thinks about comfort food in the winter, his first stop seems like a no-brainer. Everyone loves a good chili. It s versatile in that it can be eaten alone or paired with many dishes, says Perkins of Beetnik s Chili Made with Grass Fed Beef. Seasoned with cumin, oregano, cocoa powder, garlic, and peppers it s a flavorful addition to any home cook s arsenal. "We ve seen it topping baked potatoes, using it as a topping for taco salad; people use it to make stuffed bell peppers.

Another favorite is the Shepherd s Pie with Grass Fed Beef. USDA Certified Organic, Certified Gluten-Free, and Certified Paleo, the Shepherd s Pie is a twist on the classic. It makes a great dinner and pairs nicely with a red wine. Grab one for lunch and you ve got wholesome ingredients to keep you fueled up throughout your day. Beetnik s Chili is USDA Certified Organic, Certified Gluten-Free, and Paleo Certified. Found in the freezer section of most grocers, from Whole Foods Market to Wal-Mart, the frozen meals from Beetnik provide great tasting food sourced from wholesome ingredients. A further glimpse at what s on offer at Beetnik s: From the beginning, Beetnik's has focused on organic, clean ingredients. All of their meals are free of hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and processed sugars. Honey Chicken with Zucchini Noodles: Organic chicken in a honey infused the sauce with zucchini noodles. INGREDIENTS: Organic Zucchini, Organic Chicken, Organic Bell Pepper, Organic Onion, Water, Organic Honey, Organic Potato Flour, Organic Balsamic Vinegar, Sea Salt, Organic Red Pepper, Organic Black Pepper, and Plum Concentrate.

New Organic Grass Fed Beef Chili: Organic, grass-fed, and gluten-free frozen meatballs. INGREDIENTS: organic grass-fed beef, water, organic gluten free bread crumbs (water, organic white rice flour, organic brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane juice, yeast, sea salt, and organic cider vinegar), sea salt, plum juice concentrate, organic basil, organic parsley, organic black pepper and oregano. Starting with great ingredients and improving on recipes, Chef David Perkins works tremendously hard to see his vision through. He spends a great deal of time in the Beetnik Test Kitchen and

working with manufacturers and farmers to ensure that the products hitting the freezers are the best quality. And people are buying them. Beetnik s frozen meals are popping up in grocer s freezers across the U.S. We re working hard to create meals that people will enjoy. That their families will enjoy. Making foods that are wholesome and healthy with processes that are better for the environment, that s why we started this business. says Perkins. We know that if people have healthy options that fit their busy lifestyle they ll buy them. Living a healthy lifestyle is at the core of Beetnik s values. A family run business in the heart of Austin, TX, Beetnik was founded on the belief that people care about what they eat, how it s produced, and who produces it. *The information available on ewellnessmag.com, including text, graphics, and other materials are for informational purposes only.
