No apple variety has been reported to be immune to infection, but the varieties vary in resistance. Particularly susceptible apple cultivars include Braeburn, Earligold, Fuji, Fenton (Beacon), Gala, Ginger Gold, Granny Smith, Ida Red, Jonagold, Jonathan, Lodi, Mutsu (Crispin), Nittany, Paulared, Puritan, Red Yorking, Rhode Island Greening, Rome, Sir Prize, Twenty Ounce, Wealthy, Yellow Transparent, and many crab apple
varieties. Delicious, Golden delicious, McIntosh, and Stayman may develop spur infections, but the disease seldom enters the main branches. Several scab-resistant apple cultivars are moderately resistant to fire blight as well. These include Enterprise, Goldrush, Jonafree, Liberty, Macfree, Prima, Priscilla, and Williams Pride. M.26 and M.9 rootstocks are susceptible to fire blight, so fire blight-susceptible varieties should not be planted on these rootstocks.
