Fun Facts about origin of package names Fightin Texas Aggie Fajitas Fightin Texas Aggies A&M is known all over the nation as the Fightin Texas Aggies. The story is told that when Lawrence Sullivan Ross became President of the Agricultural and Mechanical College, it was under the threat of being shut down. Luckily, Governor Ross would not have this and he went down to the Legislature and fought to keep his school open. He got so angry that he punched a senator over the issue. From then on, we have been known as the Fightin Farmers that later became the Fightin Texas Aggies. The Wrecking Que The Wrecking Crew The term Wrecking Crew is a name given to defenses of the football team. The term, coined by defensive back Chet Brooks, became popular during Coach R.C. Slocum s tenure in the 80s and 90s. The Wing Dunk Ring Dunk For decades, an unofficial tradition among students involves "dunking" the newly acquired Aggie Ring. The ring is dropped in a pitcher of beer and the student chugs the entire pitcher in a "Class Set" (for example, the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 2011 will have 111 seconds to "dunk" the ring) and catches the ring in his or her teeth. Some students choose to dunk their rings in alternative substances, including ice cream or nonalcoholic beverages. Boot Line Burger Bar Boot Line As the Fightin Texas Aggie Band leaves the field after each home game half-time performance, Seniors (giving evidence by the their Senior Boots), line up at the North End of Kyle Field to welcome the team back onto the field for the second half. Spirit of Aggieland Sliders The Spirit of Aggieland The Spirit of Aggieland is the alma mater of the Texas A&M University. It was originally written as a poem by Marvin H Mimms while he was a student at Texas A&M. Students, faculty, and former students of A&M sing the song at Aggie sporting events, Muster, and other events. The Spirit of Aggieland also refers to the "spirit can ne'er be told." Many people describe Texas A&M University as having a unique school spirit that "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. And from the inside looking out, you can't explain it." Bonfire Stack Nacho Bar Bonfire The first Aggie Bonfire began in the early 1900's as a pile of wood and trash next to the train station. The cadets decided to make a Bonfire to congratulate the football team on their win. Although this first Bonfire was held in the early morning hours of November 18, 1907, the first on-campus Aggie Bonfire was not held until 1909. Ol Army Breakfast Ol Army Term referring to Texas A&M's past.

Reveille s Breakfast Taco Bar Reveille Reveille, the first lady of Aggieland, is the official mascot of Texas A&M University. She is the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets, being the only bearer of five silver diamonds. Reveille I came to Texas A&M in January 1931. A group of cadets hit a small black and white dog on their way back from Navasota. They picked up the dog and brought her back to the school so they could care for her. The next morning, when Reveille was blown by a bugler, she started barking. She was named after this morning wake up call. The following football season she was named the official mascot when she led the band onto the field during their half-time performance. When Reveille I died on January 18, 1944, she was given a formal military funeral on the gridiron of Kyle Field. She was then buried at the north entrance to the field, as all Reveilles are, facing the scoreboard so that she can always watch the Aggies outscore their opponent. Whoopin WakeUp Whoop An exclamation of approval and excitement, especially used at the end of a yell. Only juniors and seniors have the privilege to "Whoop". Howdy Hot Dog Bar Howdy Many incoming students at Texas A&M choose to attend the campus because they feel that the students are friendlier than those at other universities. This perception is created partly by the Aggie tradition "Howdy", the official greeting of Texas A&M University. Farmers Fight A Yell is the same compared to the cheer of any other school.only it is MUCH LOUDER and ALWAYS BETTER! Yells are lead by the 5 yell leaders. Farmers Fight is one of the most famous of all the Yells.
