Burgundy 2013 En Primeur Vintage Report & Offer

H2Vin Ltd, Southbank House, Black Prince Road, London SE1 7SJ Tel 020 3478 7376 Fax 01737 720165 Email info@h2vin.co.uk As Burgundy specialists with more than 30 years experience of sourcing wines from the region, we are thrilled to offer you a selection of some of the very best wines from the 2013 Burgundy vintage En Primeur. What is En Primeur? En Primeur is the first offering of an estate s wines and allows you to purchase them whilst they are still in barrel, several months before they are released to the market. The price paid at time of purchase is in bond, which means that it excludes Duty and VAT. As we re not permitted to charge taxes in advance of wines arriving into the UK, these are both payable on release according to the rates in force at the time of delivery based on the original cost of the wines. So what are the benefits of buying En Primeur? Firstly, the En Primeur price is usually much cheaper than buying when bottled. Also, buying En Primeur allows you to buy highly sought after wines which are only available in very limited quantities and may be impossible to find after release. H2Vin Burgundy 2013 En Primeur Offer The wines will be shipped between September and November 2015 at the producers discretion based on bottling dates. Prices are in bond (London City Bond) per case of 12 bottles (75cl), except for the Grand Crus where prices per case of 6 bottles (75cl). Duty and VAT will be charged at the rate in force at the time of delivery. Delivery will be charged at cost. As always we will do our best to honour last year s buyers repeat requests as fairly as possible. Please bear in mind that all wines are offered subject to availability, especially as there are extreme limitations on this year s stocks. far from opulent, [2013] is fresh and focused. And as many a top grower pointed out to me, it is only where yields were really low that the fruit was able to reach anything like full ripeness It is certainly true that the hundreds of 2013 burgundies I have tasted to date are generally delightfully terroir-specific. Alcohols are low, generally closer to 12 than 13%. From the right addresses, wines for true burgundy lovers. Hot on the heels of the very small 2012 vintage, comes another Burgundian crop with significantly reduced yields. The extremely difficult, and in many cases, devastating climatic conditions, once again tested the resolve and the skills of vignerons across the region. Those growers who are diligent throughout the year and who have an intimate understanding of their various vineyard plots have risen to the challenge, crafting some very fine, elegantly expressive Burgundy wines. The spring was unseasonably cold and wet with both April and May bringing high levels of rainfall and below average temperatures. Flowering was going to be delayed, disturbed and uneven. So it proved to be, especially as June s weather was only marginally better. The potential size of the crop was already compromised. In July the weather did, at last, warm up but, sadly, with increased humidity and risk of mildew and storms. A hugely destructive hail storm on the 23 rd of the month scythed its brutal path through parts of Meursault, Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses. In these villages, damage varied between 50-100%. This disaster followed the 70-90% loss in Volnay and Pommard in 2012! In August the humid conditions continued to prevail making vigilant vineyard work essential in order to combat the ever present threat of mildew. September, mercifully, brought several days of fine weather that helped the well-tended fruit to ripen sufficiently. The harvest began in earnest towards the end of month and continued well into October, some 2-3 weeks later than normal.

Selecting the best picking dates was particularly critical this year, with different parcels reaching phenolic ripeness at different times, and to complicate matters further, when the desired level of ripeness did arrive, it arrived very quickly, especially in Chablis. The pressure and stress on the growers was intense juggling the wait for fruit maturity against the risk of autumn weather conditions deteriorating. This was not a vintage of blanket decisions. Likewise, diligent sorting of the fruit both in the vineyard and the cuverie was key to ultimate quality. Notwithstanding the enormous challenges faced by Burgundian growers this year, the resulting quality of the best wines of 2013 is impressive - an eloquent reflection of their efforts and skills. It is not, by any means, a consistent vintage. Only where hard graft and an intimate understanding of the terroir and vines have worked in tandem, have growers delivered a winning result. The finest white wines show plenty of vibrant fresh citrus fruit, with excellent balance, tension and poise. The best red wines offer fine aromatics, honesty, purity and elegance. The deft hand of the more sensitive winemakers has clearly adapted to the relative delicacy of the 2013 fruit. There is a distinctly appetising profile to many wines. The myriad of terroirs, that is so much a part of Burgundy, express themselves with clarity and finesse. 2013 may not be a vintage of intense structure and richness but its inherent restraint and precision allow the taster to savour many of the intriguing intricacies of wines from this most compelling of wineproducing regions. There is less fruit weight than 2012 and less structure and scale than 2010. Some growers feel that 2013 can be compared to vintages like 2004 or 2007 but with more fruit and concentration, particularly for the white wines with their racy, linear profile, or maybe a cross between 2008/2011. In any case, the quality and style of 2013 will bring much pleasurable drinking over the short to medium term. In many instances we have managed to reduce our offer pricing this year, thanks to a restrained approach from a number of growers in tandem with a beneficial movement in the / exchange rate. H2Vin Ltd, Southbank House, Black Prince Road, London SE1 7SJ Tel 020 34787376 Fax 01737 720165 Email info@h2vin.co.uk Burgundy 2013 En Primeur Offer Domaine Patrick Javillier Chablis Domaine Billaud Simon Bernard Billaud had brought this fine domaine right to the very forefront of quality Chablis producers before selling the estate to the highly regarded family-owned Burgundy producer Faiveley in July 2014. Massive investment in a new winery in the 1990s ensured that the domaine has the best tools to coax the best out of the fruit from their excellent clutch of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. Faiveley are determined to safeguard and respect the individuality of the Billaud-Simon wines, but will also strive to achieve even higher levels of quality going forward. To taste these wines is to have a real education in the meaning of variety in Chablis terroirs. The 2013s certainly maintain the great reputation here and will evolve into fine Crus relatively early after bottling. Elegance, style and restraint are the hallmarks here. Bernard described his 2013s as possessing impeccable balance and harmony. Chablis 1 er Cru Les Vaillons 156.00 Chablis 1 er Cru Mont de Milieu 183.00 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir (6x75cl) 192.00

Domaine Moreau Naudet Stéphane Moreau is a young and extremely passionate winemaker with 13.5 hectares under vine, including a tiny 1 hectare parcel in Les Pargues planted with 50 year old vines which have the same exposure as Vaillons and Montmains. His style reminds us very much of that of Vincent Dauvissat, with extreme purity and intensity. One of his mentors was Didier Dagueneau and it shows, mainly in the precision and razor sharp flavours of his wines, but also in the quirky packaging. Chablis Vieilles Vignes Pargues 106.00 Chablis 1 er Cru Forêts 140.00 Chablis 1 er Cru Vaillons 140.00 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur (6x75cl) 167.50 Domaine Long Depaquit Founded in 1791, this excellent Chablis estate is owned by the family-run Burgundy House of Albert Bichot. The striking château is located at the heart of the town itself and it is here that the fruit from its 65 hectares are vinified. All their vines are tended according to environmentally friendly principles. Restricted yields and noninterventionist winemaking all add to the final quality. The régisseur, Matthieu Mangenot, feels that his 2013s will bring enormous early pleasure thanks to their freshness and their open, pure fruit style. Having said that, the wines also show sufficient concentration and bright acidity to enable the best to age well over the medium term. Stand-outs for us were the refined 1 er Cru Les Vaucopins, the intense, minerally-driven Les Vaudésirs Grand Cru, the tightly woven, complex yet vigorously saline Les Clos Grand Cru and the layered, deeply complex and energising La Moutonne Grand Cru. Chablis 1 er Cru Les Vaucopins 200.00 Chablis Grand Cru Les Vaudésirs (6x75cl) 160.00 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos (6x75cl) 165.00 Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne (6x75cl) 287.50

Mâconnais Domaine Christophe Cordier Christophe Cordier is a multi-talented winemaker. After establishing the 25ha family domaine as the leader in the region, he started a small négoce, buying the best grapes sourced locally from some of the finest, very old vineyards. He prefers to use traditional winemaking techniques to produce his classically elegant wines. With prime parcels of vines spread across the Côte de Beaune, Justin practices traditional Burgundian techniques to produce deeply concentrated wines with superb balance and rich fruit character. Jean Philippe Fichet Jean-Philippe Fichet is surely one of the hardest working producers in Burgundy. His manicured vineyards produce great quality fruit and with his years of experience, Jean-Philippe is making classic but refined white Burgundies with great terroir definition. The domaine has been producing truly exceptional wines, particularly in the last few years, with many well deserved accolades. He s working 8 hectares and has already established himself as one of the young stars of the appellation. His style is different from his father, in being slightly leaner and tighter, and closer to the modern interpretation of white Burgundy. Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Embrazées 350.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Morgeot 350.00

Santenay Vieilles Vignes 144.00 Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 144.00 Maranges 1 er Cru La Fussière 144.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Clos Saint Jean 210.00 Bruno Colin We ve known of Bruno Colin s talent for a while and are now delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with him. Bruno owns a little more than 8 hectares of top vineyards in Chassagne and the neighbouring villages. His style is modern with great purity and definition. Bruno is equally successful with both his reds and his whites, which is a rarity for Burgundy. Chassagne Montrachet 230.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Morgeot 340.00 Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 156.00 Domaine Marc Morey Son-in-Law to Marc Morey, Bernard Mollard has successfully held the reins of this family-owned 9 hectare estate for a number of years. His steady, very reliable winemaking expertise continues to evolve increasingly in the hands of his daughter Sabine, ensuring a constancy of quality year after year despite the vagaries of the climatic conditions each vintage. Bernard told us that his overall crop is once again reduced, but less severely than last year. The wines show a marked vitality in 2013; the quality is very good as well - elegant and wellbalanced. Chassagne-Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Vergers bristles with tension and nervous energy. Its habitually keen-edged personality is clearly evident. Puligny-Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Referts shows a classic profile of delicate white floral notes with a fine linear precision and yet also offers a certain richness more akin to neighbouring Meursault. Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Vergers 325.00 Puligny Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Referts 375.00

Domaine Hubert Lamy, Olivier Lamy Olivier Lamy is one of the brightest young stars in the Côte de Beaune, following in the footsteps of his father Hubert Lamy by joining him at the family domaine. He has succeeded in putting Saint Aubin on the map, almost equal to the famous neighbouring appellations of Chassagne and Puligny. A very hard worker and one of the first to understand that most of the work has to be done in the vineyard, he is making racy wines with great acidity and length, always punching well above their weight. Saint Aubin La Princée 180.00 Saint Aubin 1 er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard 225.00 Saint Aubin 1 er Cru En Remilly 285.00 Saint Aubin 1 er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité (extremely limited) 600.00 Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Haute Densité (extremely limited) 600.00 Saint Aubin 1 er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard 225.00 Domaine Blain-Gagnard The quietly-spoken, charming Jean-Marc Blain, married to Claudine (daughter of the late Jacques Gagnard), fashions Chassagne crus of delicacy and finesse. His wines seduce the palate with their elegance and subtlety, rather than weight and richness. Jean-Marc is very pleased with his 2013s thanks to their vital character with pure, bright fruit. Hard work throughout the growing season and detailed selection were key to this success. Hail damage on his Grand Cru plots has cruelly reduced volumes by 50%; however the quality is certainly very high, with fine concentration and impeccable drive and definition. Of his 1 er Crus, we particularly liked his tightly-focused, chiselled 1 er Cru Clos St Jean which is precise and floral. Jean-Marc s 1 er Cru Les Caillerets marries brilliantly a subtle note of white flowers with a hint of bread, culminating in a palate-pleasing salinity on the finale. His Grand Crus marry richness with a telling restraint and to fine effect. Chassagne Montrachet 215.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Clos St Jean 306.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Caillerets 330.00 Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru (6x75cl) 475.00 Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru (6x75cl) 475.00

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Richard Fontaine and his wife Laurence, daughter of Jacques Gagnard, run this highly regarded 12 hectare estate with the increasing support of their daughter Céline. The perpetual quest to refine even further the quality of their already superb range of Chassagne-Montrachet 1 er Crus wines continues unabated. Not to be missed are their superb Grand Cru whites, which exhibit incredible purity, balance and terroir-definition. Richard is very pleased with the overall quality of his 2013s, all of which exhibit plenty of vigour and typicité. 1 er Cru La Boudriotte offers plenty of creamy fluidity; 1 er Cru Les Vergers, as ever, is more nervy, tense and finely etched; 1 er Cru Les Caillerets is supremely elegant with a pristine linearity, whilst 1 er Cru La Romanée brings an almost Grand Cru gravitas and structure. The Grand Crus themselves exude class, refinement, intensity and a signature vibrancy and equilibrium. Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru La Boudriotte 330.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Vergers 330.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Caillerets 410.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru La Romanée 500.00 Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru (6x75cl) 600.00 Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru (6x75cl) 600.00 Montrachet Grand Cru (6x75cl) 1,600.00 Domaine Philippe Chavy Philippe Chavy took over the reins of this wealthy domaine from his father in 2002 with a little more than 3 hectares of prime sited vineyards. The domaine now extends to just over 8 hectares, with some thirty individual parcels scattered throughout the neighbouring villages of Puligny-Montrachet (from his father s side of the family) and Meursault (through his maternal side). Soil is worked by ploughing; there is strictly no use of herbicides or insecticides and for several years Philippe has followed the cycles of the lunar calendar when determining work in the vineyards and cellars. We have put a toe in the water from his wide range for our first vintage working together. A very neat, trim Bourgogne Blanc sourced from 4 parcels, mainly in Puligny; a taut, finely-etched Meursault Blagny 1 er Cru Sous le Dos d Ane shows a vibrant, almost saline minerality; a precise, floral Puligny-Montrachet Les Corvées des Vignes from vines that lie very close to Meursault and Meursault 1 er Cru Charmes, and an impressively stylish Puligny-Montrachet 1 er Cru Pucelles offering texture, weight and tightly-wound stone fruit. Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 118.00 Puligny Montrachet Les Corvées des Vignes 350.00 Meursault Blagny 1 er Cru Sous le Dos d Ane 390.00 Puligny Montrachet 1 er Cru Les Pucelles 750.00

Domaine Darviot-Perrin Didier and Geneviève Darviot are quintessential vignerons; as a husband and wife team they oversee every phase of the winemaking procedure from pruning and ploughing to racking the casks and bottling on their own premises - minimal intervention is key. Internationally considered one of the finest sources of domainebottled Burgundies, the 11 hectare property is one of very the few to own vines in the three top 1 er Cru vineyards of Meursault: Perrières, Genevrières and Charmes. In addition, they also own vines in Chassagne 1 er Cru Blanchots-Dessus, which abuts Le Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard Montrachet. Didier is, without doubt, a winemaker of prodigious talent, describing the resulting quality of the difficult 2013 vintage as being very good, with fine tension and purity. Meursault Clos de la Velle 295.00 Meursault 1 er Cru Les Charmes 490.00 Meursault 1 er Cru Les Genevrières 530.00 Meursault 1 er Cru Perrières 670.00 Chassagne Montrachet 1 er Cru Blanchots-Dessus 670.00 Volnay 1 er Cru La Gigotte 340.00 Domaine Patrick Javillier The ever thoughtful, precisely spoken Patrick Javillier runs his 9 hectare family-owned domaine based in Meursault with quiet diligence. He is a great believer in vinifying his parcels separately, all with long ageing on the lees. A deft touch of new oak on certain cuvées only adds to the sense of sensitive winemaking. Patrick particularly likes the freshness and balance of his 2013s. His very Meursault-esque Bourgogne Oligocène combines chalky elegance and restrained texture; Meursault Tillets is all about floral finesse and elegance; Meursault Tête de Murger brings more concentration and weight, yet still with precision and poise. Patrick s very fine Corton-Charlemagne oozes class, marrying subtle notes of acacia flowers, hazelnut and heady ripe pear. Refined, bristling yet luxurious. Bourgogne Blanc Oligocène 150.00 Meursault Tillets 280.00 Meursault Tête de Murger 450.00 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru (6x75cl) 372.50

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Based in Volnay, with additional extensive holdings in Meursault and a parcel in Puligny-Montrachet, this 12 hectare, organically-run domaine focuses on quality and typicité. Conscientious, sensitive work in the vineyards, respect for the specific character of each plot of vines, as well as patience and attention to detail in the cellar, all ensures that their wines are honest expressions of their particular terroirs. With Vincent Bitouzet currently at the helm and Annie (née Prieur) his wife alongside, the domaine can claim a long vinous history on both sides of the family. The resulting "merger" of the Bitouzet and Prieur family holdings has created a domaine of distinction and breadth and the tradition continues with Vincent and Annie s son, François, working hand-in-hand with his parents. Meursault Clos du Cromin combines richness and vibrancy to great effect; Puligny-Montrachet Les Levrons is authentically pristine with white floral notes; whilst Meursault 1 er Cru Perrières is intense, focused with a mineral/stony seam, drive and refinement. Volnay 1 er Cru Clos des Chênes offers plenty of plum and dark cherry fruit framed by shapely, ripe tannins. Meursault Clos du Cromin 265.00 Puligny Montrachet Les Levrons 330.00 Meursault 1 er Cru Perrières 365.00 Volnay 1 er Cru Clos des Chênes 300.00 Domaine du Pavillon This fine 18 hectare estate in Pommard is entirely owned by the increasingly highly regarded Maison Albert Bichot. Respectful of the environment and diligent in both vineyard and cellar, the domaine has fashioned a selection of impressive 2013s including a refined, seamlessly balanced Meursault 1 er Cru Charmes and a tightly-wound, tense, complex Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. As for the red offerings, two crus stood out: firstly the expressive, terroir-evoking dark-fruited Pommard 1 er Cru Rugiens and the monopole Corton Clos des Maréchaudes Grand Cru combining fine grainy structure with freshness, length and complexity. Meursault 1 er Cru Charmes 460.00 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru (6x75cl) 370.00 Volnay 1 er Cru Santenots 340.00 Pommard 1 er Cru Rugiens 495.00 Corton Clos des Maréchaudes Grand Cru (monopole) (6x75cl) 270.00

Nicolas Rossignol Nicolas Rossignol established his domaine in 1997, starting out with 3 hectares of vines spread across the principal red wine villages of the Côte de Beaune. Later acquisitions in Savigny-lès-Beaune in 2005 effectively doubled his holdings. Further purchases brought his total to 16 hectares. His superbly equipped cellar in central Beaune allows him to vinify by terroir and by parcel. Such was the brutality of the hail this year, especially in Pommard and Volnay where Nicolas vineyards are located, his volumes in 2013 are drastically reduced. The quality, though, is most impressive with elegance, poise and aromatic refinement throughout. The tannins are finely etched, whilst the fruit is vibrant and precise. Owning an extensive patchwork of vines on both the Côte de Beaune (from François family side, Domaine Parent) and the Côte de Nuits (from Françoise s family, Domaine Jean Gros), their portfolio is as varied as it is of high quality. François habitual deftness of touch allows for clear terroir personalities to express themselves. His 2013s continue this trend: the fragrant charm of Vosne Romanée Aux Réas, the fine precision of their Chambolle-Musigny, the cherry-stone fruit of the elegantly profiled Savigny-lès-Beaune 1 er Cru Clos des Guettes and the finesse of the intricately-etched Pommard 1 er Cru Pézerolles are all testament to the domaine s careful approach. Chandon de Briailles The perennially charming Claude de Nicolay extended her usual warm welcome even though nature had dealt her another cruel blow with 2013 being the third consecutive significantly reduced crop. The sense of place, history and quality ooze out of the place from the minute one enters the atmospheric courtyard. Vineyard holdings totalling 14 hectares worked 100% biodynamically in Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Corton provide the superb fruit that marries elegance, restraint, energy and typicité. The dark, sombre fruit of the Pernand-Vergelesses 1 er Cru Les Vergelesses typifies the terroir of this cru, whilst the complex elegance and mineral intensity of the Corton Bressandes Grand Cru shows their hand with class. Claude s Corton Blanc Grand Cru is sourced from 3 plots, with the majority from Bressandes. Using no new oak, it is individual, tense and precise with hints of ripe pear, flowers and citrus. Domaine de Courcel Created at the beginning of the 16th century, this 10 hectare domaine is planted exclusively in the village of Pommard. Since 1996 the winemaking has been carried out by Yves Confuron (of Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne Romanée) and the wines have definitely stepped up a gear in quality. It is the combination of old vines, great plots, low yields and a restrained use of new oak, which make De Courcel Pommards the truly exceptional wines they are today. Pierre is highly dedicated in his desire to continue to make the best wines possible given the terroir and the vines in his ownership. The estate extends over 14 hectares across Villages, Premier and Grand Crus, both red and white. The wines are particularly well made showing finesse, character and sculpted tannins and what is more, they offer excellent value. We have selected three of Pierre s 2013s: Ladoix Blanc is all freshness, poise and race; Ladoix Rouge Vieilles Vignes offers a mass of ripe black cherry fruit with textured tannins, whilst Ladoix Rouge 1 er Cru Bois Roussot shows good depth of spiced plum fruit with a tight mineral core. Côte de Nuits Roche de Bellene Maison Roche de Bellene, named after the Roman word for the town of Beaune, is the négociant business of Nicolas Potel. As a dynamic and highly talented winemaker, Nicolas originally cut his teeth at Domaine de La Pousse d Or in Volnay, which at the time was run by his father Gérard Potel. Following several years work as a négociant, Nicolas set up this latest venture in 2008, which he now operates out of sensitively renovated premises in Beaune, sourcing grapes for his extensive range of wines from quality-minded growers, many of whom he has collaborated with for over fifteen years and who work in an environmentally respectful fashion. His current range, offering wines crafted from some of the finest vineyards in the Côte d Or, is a roll-call of top crus and top appellations. For Nicolas his Roche de Bellene label represents the haute couture of Burgundy. At the beginning of 2006, he created his new micronégociant label. For Pascal s first vintage he produced almost 1,000 cases from 7 different wines, mainly from the Côte de Nuits. He now offers in excess of 40 different appellations from the Côte de Nuits, as well as a smattering of wine from the Côte de Beaune. His fruit is sourced from growers he knows well and in whom he has total confidence. All of his wines originate from vineyards with vines of a minimum of 35 years of age. Some of his growers are certified organic; some are organic in ethos but work without certification. All though are highly dedicated to quality. Dufouleur Frères Not to be confused with Dufouleur Père et Fils whose cellars are also found on the main route out towards Dijon, Dufouleur Frères is an artisan family domaine and winery operating from their château in Nuits-Saint- Georges. It s not that the two cellars aren t historically connected in some way - both claim proof of ancestry dating back to 1596, spanning some 12 generations. Cousins François-Xavier (FX to all who have met him) and Marc Dufouleur are gradually wrestling power from their elders, having finally convinced the family that they should once more farm and control their own parcels. It s a slow and complex procedure, but since the 2008 vintage existing contracts have ended or been annulled, and Marc and FX are now focused on growing and making small-scale domaine-owned wines which can be off-set with the economies of scale from grapes brought-in from the more generic appellations. As an initial toe in the water we have selected three crus from the 2013 vintage which epitomise the potential of this family-owned producer. Respect for the soils, rigorous pruning and green harvesting all help in ensuring the final quality of the fruit. Vinification and maturation are carried out gently and respectfully, adapting techniques to complement the fruit style of each particular vintage we tasted the entire range of Premier and Grand Crus in the extensive Bichot cellars in Beaune. The elegance and vibrancy of the 2013 vintage shines through in all the crus. Fine aromatic expressions abound, alongside precisely chiselled tannins allowing the typicité of the appellations to clearly appreciated. An assured success in 2013. Maison Albert Bichot With a history stretching back to 1350 the Bichot family have deep roots in the region. Now headed by Albéric Bichot, the 6 th generation of the family, the company has gone from strength to strength, with quality and authenticity the watchwords. As well as being proprietors of their own 100 hectares of vineyards, including Domaine Long-Depaquit in Chablis, Domaine du Pavillon in Pommard and Domaine Clos du Frantin in Nuits-St- Georges, Bichot also vinify wines from a further 50 hectares under their négociant label. Diligence throughout, be it in the vineyards under the stewardship of Christophe Cavel or in the cellars under the steady-handed guidance of Alain Serveau, ensures that the quality competes with many of the very finest producers in Burgundy. Recent and growing recognition as well as numerous international awards are thoroughly merited. We have selected just 3 wines from Chambolle-Musigny as an introduction this year. The 1 er Cru Les Sentiers offers fine aromatic expression and well-judged elegance, the 1 er Cru Les Chabiots has more weight of fruit with an enchanting pure fruited bouquet and finely-grained tannins, whilst the 1 er Cru Les Amoureuses is crammed with heady scented floral aromatics. The palate is tense and energetic with a teasing minerality at its core. Multi-dimensional. Faiveley have confirmed that they will respect the previous quality and individuality of the wines whilst also declaring an intention to lavish even more care on and dedication to the wines future reputation. Evolution and refinement are the future priorities for Faiveley. With vineyard holdings totalling almost 20 hectares in top Premier Crus and Grand Crus, it is not surprising that Faiveley saw the attraction! Domaine Marc Roy Located in the heart of Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Marc Roy has passed from father to son for generations, yet the winemaking is now carried out by Marc's only daughter Alexandrine. She has made a huge impact on the domaine, having previously spent time in other classic Pinot growing regions, such as Oregon and Central Otago N.Z. Although Alexandrine has no Grand or 1 er Crus, her village wines are of a particularly high quality coming from very old vines (70 year old for the Vieilles Vignes). Domaine Georges Lignier Benoît Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, has run the estate since 2008 after working at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle. His approach is very delicate as he seeks to achieve maximum aromatic concentration, rather than focus on emphatic structure or colour. Quality has improved dramatically as a result. At the Villages level, the wines are matured in used oak barrels, while 1er Crus see 30% new oak and Grand Crus 50% new oak. A seam of seductive elegance runs throughout the range of wines. Benoît s deep respect for tradition allied to a sublime expression of each terroir shapes his decisions ensuring that the wines evoke their precise origins with clarity and poise. Since 2010 the wines are neither fined nor filtered. The domaine has an enviable spread of 16 hectares of superb vineyards encompassing 50 parcels including top Grand Crus. The estate is the largest proprietor of Clos Saint-Denis, at 1.5 hectares, and controls over a hectare of the Clos de la Roche. We have selected a small number of wines to showcase the quality of the domaine s 2013s, including a typically fragrant Chambolle-Musigny of marked elegance, a wonderfully aromatic, minerally-driven Morey St Denis 1 er Cru Clos des Ormes, an enchanting Clos St Denis Grand Cru laden with notes of floral, scented black tea and a more tightly-coiled, damson/morello-fruited Clos de la Roche Grand Cru of much class.
