Greetings Hi, everyone! I am Eisaku Suzuki, a community organizer in Tozawa Village! I made this brochure to invite many visitors to my beautiful village. I want to make sure that you don't miss anything and that you discover how wonderful this place really is. We have a lot of awesome sights, and I recommend that you stay and experience them yourself! First, we have the extraordinary and beautiful Mogami River, which flows through the town, that can be enjoyed from some lovely view spots. In Tozawa Village, you can enjoy not only our delicious traditional food, but also experience our way of life by participating in agricultural activities. You can feel the blessings of nature by doing agricultural work in the farmhouses. Traveling in a big group? We can also accommodate large groups in multiple farmhouses. There are some beautiful rice fields visible from the entrance. Their farmhouse is located in the Sawauchi area, which is away from the center of Tozawa Village. The atmosphere in their traditional house makes you feel at home. Farmhouse Sanzaemon The hosts offer a local kind of soba noodle, named Mogami Wase, which they cultivate themselves. The owner is a city councilor in Tazawa Village, so he can explain to you many things about the village. The soba store sign is a landmark when you move along the prefectural highway. Spring: rice paddy work, rice planting, and gathering mountain vegetables Summer: harvesting vegetables, cutting weeds, and playing in the river Autumn: harvesting vegetables or mushrooms, and various rice-related activities (anything from harvesting to shipping) Winter: playing in the snow, making snow huts (kamakura), and cooking traditional Japanese dishes Address: Tsunokawa 1469, Tozawa Village, Mogami Tel: +81-233-73-2160 (Japanese Only) Charge: 6,000 per adult, 4000 for children under 12. Farmhouse Fukinotou Tanaka Mrs. Takiko is an excellent cook! That s why she was asked to be a chef at a local day-care center. Mr. Shinichi is quiet, but so kind, beloved by his grandchildren. Enjoy mealtime with delicious food and a good company. You can try some seasonal delicacies, such as mountain vegetables in spring, and mushrooms in autumn. Includes dinner and breakfast. Farmhouse Yosoemon Hirane area is believed to be a hidden scenic spot. The water from the Hirane area is cold even in summer and it tastes amazing. You can t miss eating soba noodles made using this fresh water! The hosts also run a soba noodle shop, so you can try it in any season. Spring: some farming experiences before rice planting, rice planting Summer: harvesting mountain vegetables, cutting weeds, removing excessive vegetables and harvesting them, planting soba seeds, cultivating perilla, famous as a seed of Egoma oil in Japan. Autumn: some farming experiences such as harvesting rice and mushrooms Winter: snow activities such as shoveling snow, strolling in the mountains with snow You can make soba noodles any season if you make a reservation before coming. The owners cultivate and harvest some vegetables on their fields all most every season, and they prepare dinner using their fresh vegetables. You'll talk about dining together and have fun! And you can enjoy the night sky in front of the house! Isn t it just amazing? The house is alongside the prefectural highway, and it has a beautiful blue roof. The hosts will serve you not only home-grown rice from their fields, but also the dishes include fresh vegetables and mountain vegetables. They hope that you can experience rural living in the great scenery by doing some agricultural activities such as planting vegetables, and harvesting mountain vegetables. You can have a great view of their colorful autumn leaves of the Mogami Gorge from a boat on the river in fall. Tozawa Seasonal Market in spring You can buy fresh seasonal mountain vegetables or enjoy hiking around "Jou no Taki (the waterfalls in Tozawa Village) and other events! Competition for fishing in a mountain stream Why don t you catch a big one in the famous fresh stream Tsuno River? Summer Summer Party in Tsunokawa (at South Regional Development Center) Shinjo Festival (August 24th, 25th, and 26th, near JR Shinjo Station) Fireflies light up the concert at Shikamura s rice terrace. (Ohkura Village) And there are more festivals in other areas! Other Crops Harvested in autumn. Autumn is the best season to fill up your belly. You can taste a lot of fresh crops that you can t have in the summer time! Can t wait to have them? Then it might be worth it visiting Tozawa Village! Picking mountain vegetables! You can plant rice! Rice Harvest Enjoy the great gift from the land! The rice, especially in the autumn, tastes fantastic. You can hike around Jou no Taki (in Tsunokawa area). Nagakura no Osugi is a large cedar tree in Tsunokawa area.the natural cedar tree is more than 1200 years old and I bet that it ll give you a great impression! Village Flower: Lilium rubellum It s an herbaceous perennial that grows in high mountains and hills. One to three flowers bloom on each plant from June to August. It is said to grow naturally in the north up to Tozawa Village only. You can enjoy swimming in the river! Harvesting Vegetables Try picking various seasonal home-grown vegetables in the fields, and breathe in fresh early morning air that will relieve your stress!it is really fantastic to have fresh vegetables that the farmer harvested with love! Autumn Soba Festival in Autumn Have a good time eating a type of delicious soba noodle, called "Mogami Wase, which is originally from here. It s a really famous event and they ll sell out in a short time. Tozawa Seasonal Market in autumn We offer mushrooms and seasonal vegetables, and have a lot of events! Winter Yuki Kairou Monogatari, a Snow Corridor Festival (in Tsunokawa area, mostly in February) Kuraoka Kami Fusen Festival, a Paper Balloon Festival (in Kuraoka area) Skiing (at the Shinjo Public Ski site) Address: Shibakusayama 5919-3, Itsuka Town, Shinjo City Tel: +81-233-22-0681 Preserving Matagi" Hunter Culture Matagi are hunters who live in the mountains of the Tohoku region and hunt animals in groups using a traditional way of hunting. Osaido It s a traditional event where entrance decorations such as Kadomatsu (gate pine) and Shimenawa rope (sacred straw rope) are piled up and burned on Lunar New Year s Day. It is said that the fire gives you good health and prevents you from catching a cold, while the fire and smoke protect you from bad luck in the upcoming year.

Note: Farmhouses are private family homes. As such, there is no room service. However, I assure you that you ll have great experiences with the family. Don't forget to bring bath towels, pajamas, and toothbrushes.none of the farmhouses have hot springs, but we can introduce you to an affordable hot spring facility. Make a reservation a week before you decide to come. The fees for activities in the farmhouse are not included in the accommodation fee. The contents of activities will depend on the season, the weather, and other conditions. Credit cards and debit cards are not accepted. Cash only. There is no charge for pick-up service, but If you require transport, let us know when you make the reservation. Hosts speak only Japanese.No Wi-Fi If you have allergies or specific dietary requirements, inform us when you make your reservation. Unfortunately, it might be difficult to accommodate every kind of allergy, but hosts will do as much as possible. You ll be sleeping on traditional futons laid on tatami floors. The bath tub and toilet will be shared with the family.tatami rooms are separated by a "fusuma", which is made of wood and paper, so privacy is limited. I recommend that each guest carries their travel insurance with them. I advise you to bring some extra equipment (clothes, shoes, gloves, glasses, etc.) for different activities, such as: hiking, picking vegetables, planting, etc.
